It's nifty but more gimmicky than useful. I have the ability on my note 3 and haven't ever had a practical need for it.

I do agree with the sentiments that some sort of pop up for certain functions would be handy.

I use split screen all the time to balance my financial app along with my bank app. Also, using Hangouts and searching on the Web is awesome.

Just give it time, it's hard work copying features from android . Lol just look at the pull down menu and notification panel

I think the split screen app idea as Windows 8 does it is superb, as it allows you to have two apps open at once, or flip between fullscreen apps like the iPad. It's amazingly useful, especially for chatting on IM or watching Netflix while being productive.

Hopefully soon, but my gut says that's "too complex" for Apple, and we'll never see it.

Split Screen/Multi-screen use of apps is one of my biggest requests for iOS 8 on iPads. Processing power is certainly there now. IMO, this would help to stop the criticisms that the iPad is an oversized iPod touch and increase the usability of the OS.

I know Apple and developers can come up with an elegant way to implement this, even if it's initially usable with the in-house apps at first (Messages, Mail, Pages, Safari...).

I would love to browse the internet or iMessage while a movie or show was playing on the side. I rarely have time to just watch a movie... I've so it would be nice to do two things at once.

Videopane on cydia will do the job

Please amplify on that

I looked for that on my Android tablet - couldn't find it. Please be more specific.

I searched for a Play Store app and that also yielded nothing for split screen that I can find.

Me too .. but on my iMac .. divvy lets me split the screen into 2 or more parts, each with a custom shape.

For finance, it's good to have the financial institution in one pane and a spreadsheet on the other - copying info from one and pasting onto the other.

For research I find having my search on one side and my word processor on the other allows me to copy sentences or paragraphs from one and past them on the other. VERY HANDY.

It's sad that we can't do that on an iPad.

Multitask will be landscape only and will display the apps in portrait mode. If one is landscape the other app resizes it self.

When i was running Quasar on jailbroken iPad 2, I found using Hulu and Safari to be more useful in portrait mode. Otherwise the video was just really small. And I used it frequently.

Honestly, it can be done.

Of course it can be done, people are just debating the usefulness/best method.
