Inside info from mate who works for apple. The activation problem wont be fixed untill tomo, there is a huge problem that there not telling the public, i have been trying all day, fed up trying now, just going to try again at lunch time.

I got my original iPhone working on the 2nd install. I just kept connecting the USB adapter, watched it fail then reconnected. After about the 8th try it went through.

best of luck.

Just keep trying. I got the error code/can't access activation code 3 times and now it is activating.

Odd, I got the two last 16 gig blacks at my AT&T. Mine got set up first and after 15 mins of waiting it activated. For my sister, they sent me to activate it on iTunes. It worked after 10 minutes.

- I didn't camp out all night on a dirty sidewalk
- I didn't buy a 3G iphone that cannot be activated
- I didn't upgrade my original iphone to 2.0
- I didn't disable that phone because it cannot be re-activated after the upgrade

- I DO have a perfectly functional iphone
- I AM having a normal day so far with little stress

Sometimes it pays to not be an early adopter guinea pig. :)

Honestly guys, just keep trying! You don't need to physically disconnect/reconnect every time, just click "iTunes Store" then click back on the iPhone every time you get an error and it will try again.

I tried for about 40 minutes and finally got through. Good luck.

been clicking back and forth between store and iphone for around 2hrs as well now. Sweet iBrick

is this what everyone is getting?

WE COULD NOT COMPLETE YOUR ITUNES STORE REQUEST. THE NETWORK CONNECTION TIMED OUT.

???

-i didnt camp out all night on a dirty sidewalk
-i will buy a 3g iphone that at that point can easily be activated
-i did upgrade my iphone to 2.0 (pre-2.0 to be exact) yesterday
-i didnt disable that phone because it cannot be re-activated after the upgrade

-I DO have a perfectly functional iphone with several FANTASTIC new features i can enjoy and show off to friends
-I AM having a better than normal day with no stress and the added fun of enjoying 2.0

Don't constantly click on the iPhone panel to reload the page until you get the error message. Sometimes it will start to activate right before the message pops up. Be patient.

patience? It only takes 7 seconds for the error to come up lol

my bricked phone just activated on its own without itunes (what the hell)

I've got a unactivated 3g iphone that I keep getting the " we could not complete your itunes store request. An unknown error occurred (-4)" error trying to activate through itunes. All of a sudden I got a text message from att and the phone activated. I now have 3g service.

What the hell is going on, how is that even possible?

I got the iPhone activated after like the 10th try. iTunes wouldn't set it up though.

After the third try, it finally asked me to set up as a new phone.

Thats what I'm getting,

and at the bottom, "Make sure your network settings are correct and active"

seems the only solution is to keep trying and hope for the best...
