Spoke to apple about activation!

Got there at 5.30 am, wife showed up at 7.58 am, out by 8.45 am with a white and black 16 gb - and they both work marvelous.;)

- I didn't camp out all night on a dirty sidewalk
- I didn't buy a 3G iphone that cannot be activated
- I didn't upgrade my original iphone to 2.0
- I didn't disable that phone because it cannot be re-activated after the upgrade

- I DO have a perfectly functional iphone
- I AM having a normal day so far with little stress

Sometimes it pays to not be an early adopter guinea pig. :)

Ditto here, EXCEPT, I have a working iPhone 3G. :)

I found an AT&T store that was well secluded, and got in line a mere 2.5 hours before opening. I was 7th in line (though it did grow to at least 75 by the time 8:00 rolled around). Got in with the first group of people, walked out with a black 16GB iPhone, fully activated and ready.

The only incident was a nasty Starbucks manager who was angry that some of the folks in line were sitting in her store's outer patio chairs. Interestingly, after she made a scene, called the cops and forced the AT&T staff to move the line in a different direction from her storefront, people STOPPED going in for coffee. :)

Now I have no wonderment as to why Starbucks is in so much trouble.

My old iPhone still has version 1.1.4 though.

Guess i lucked out!

I know everyone is pissed... But keep trying to activate. My 2nd 3G finally un bricked 2 minutes ago...and I did not even know it. I was still getting the " trying to connect to iTunes" error. I checked the phone and I had service. syncing now finally.

they were not prepared for this at all

apple is a bunch of retards.

seriously.

Not really - they had a wonderful, elegant and groundbreaking solution last year. AT&T wanted to do things the usual way - except that the 'usual' way has never been tested with this many simultaneous activations.

I wish people were processed as quickly as they came in - like last year. And that they could do this at the comfort of their homes, over a period of several hours.

I agree, a bit of staggering, especially the 2.0 roll out to iphone 1 and touch owners, could have helped quell this mayhem.

Peace out guys.

I got home, tried it two or three times then went and did some other stuff.

Came back and tried it like 5 more times, and went to unplug the phone when I noticed it had become activated.

So keep trying if you haven't gotten it to go yet.

I got to the Apple Store at 5:50 AM; I was number fifty-something in line. I was part of the fourth group to be let in. Waited in line a bit, picked up my 16 GB iPhone, got it activated after a 15 minute wait for iTunes, then went home. I couldn't get all of my data synced over until iTunes came up again. Now I"m all good to go. :)
