I can see there's a lot of struggle choosing between the SS AW and Aluminum model. Each thread I've read touches upon some of my doubts but none truly dwell in them. First and foremost, I want to get a general opinion: can the SG sport model be used for casual attire? Will the sport model "go" with the leather loops, even though they're not advertised together? Is the SS really that shiny? Please discuss!

If the band connectors on the leather is steel, you should keep it away from moisture / water / sweat. Steel and aluminium doesn't mix that well, especially with small amounts of chlorine or salt. Dry you're properly fine.

Not sure why there are so many threads of people asking for help.... how have you folks made it through life this long if you need to ask every one for their opinion before buying a product?

Yes you can wear a snoopy watch with formal attire, causal attire, naked..... it's all up to the individual wearing it so of course you can wear an AW with what ever you wish.
You can put any watch band that will fit with any watch you wish including apple watch if you buy an adapter.
The pictures of the SS really do look "that" shiny but the majority of us here on MR have NOT seen AW live so we'll all have to rely on those photos.
So get what you want, wear it with what ever you want to wear it and enjoy... no matter the model you chose (which is of course totally up to you)

Good luck with which every you choose.

I'm having a similar dilemma.

I want to go with the Sport, but not keen on the bands, so was thinking of pairing it with the Milanese. But I keep reading that the Sport case is too dull in comparison. Would they really clash that much?

Thank you in advance.

From the various photoshopped/mocked up images it looks like any of the bands with metal connectors won't match - I don't really like the look but there are several people on this board who've said they do.

The leather loop bands don't have metal connectors, so they should go very will with the sport watch. I plan on getting the sport model and sticking with the sport band until I'm able to view the rest of the bands in person, but I'm leaning towards a leather loop.

If you can't decide then waiting to see one in person is probably the best bet. Or you can preorder with the intention of returning it if you end up not liking your choice.

I can notice a difference, but not a substantial difference, in the "shininess" of the Sport compared to the SS model. I think the many hands-on YouTube videos from the March Apple conference provide the best glimpse at this, so I'd advise you to check out those. Personally, I think the Sport model looks better in those videos, in "the real world," than it does on Apple's website.

As to your comment about leather bands conflicting with the Sport model: I'm planning on buying the Sport model (with the white bands, probably) and later looking around for leather third-party bands. I don't think leather will clash much with the Sport model, and think the combination will look really good - though not as good as leather will look with the SS model. Check out this site here http://mixyourwatch.com; I'm leaning towards getting either a blue or brown leather band, similar to the "Classic buckle" variety on that site. Good luck!

He's implying you should go into an Apple store on April 10 and see for yourself in person.

I know I was being sarcastic!

I'm thinking the Sport will be best for me. I'm a geology student, meaning I will likely wear this thing outside a bunch. It sounds like stainless steel might have more issues in "active" environments, plus it's another $200. I'm no fashionista, so I would have no problem rocking the Sport plus that white band Tim Cook has. Fashion is what you make it, and I hate wearing anything close to a suit. Steve Jobs would've probably gone with a Sport as well since he loved the jeans and turtleneck look.

Just learn well and find us some oil please.

I think I'm going to get the SG Sport watch. I really wanted the SB SS watch but it's way too expensive for a first gen product (in my opinion), especially the black one which looks reeeeeeally nice. I didn't really consider the other bands not matching . I was thinking of getting the leather loop at a later time but not if the connector is SS.

The Leather Loop doesn't have any (exposed) SS and will match.

Oh cool! Thanks. I didn't even notice.

I'm still going back and forth, I'm not sure if any of the bands will match the Sport edition other than the 'rubber' ones... But the SS with leather loop is like double the price.

Decisions, decisions.

An aluminum case with steel crown and buttons.. I would be fearful of galvanic corrosion between the metals in the electrical environment of the watch. The aluminum case would probably be anodized? not sure, but anodized finishes wear off, and aluminum also corrodes on it's own when subjected to moisture (white powder like corrosion that will not come off).

An aluminum watch case I have never seen, and IMO about as cheap material wise as plastic for a watch, and not impressed with the 316 series stainless either.

I am also between the SS and the Sports model as well. I am a runner and was wondering how well the SS model would do with sweat? I like the idea of the saphire screen, plus the look of the bands with it. I'm guessing it woud do fine, but was wondering if any of you have had experience with this kind of SS and sweat resistance as I tend to sweat a lot.

Thanks!

According to the wise guys over at Apple, it does not.

"Bands work with all collections but may not match the finish of the watch or be optimal for use with that specific collection."

I think that second reason is more relevant there. If you're getting the sport model for fitness, then they probably recommend you not get a leather band since sweat/water and leather don't go all that well together.

Crap. This is something I had over looked.

And also galvanic corrosion if you pair the SS connectors with the aluminum case in the presence of sweat.

Did you look at the image I posted? Did you go to the Apple Store and look at all the Leather Loop images. It is 100% clear to me from the pictures that there is no SS exposed on the Leather Loop to clash with the aluminum Sport. It is not even shown that the Leather Loop contains any SS at all. Do you see SS showing on the Leather Loop?
