Did you look at the image I posted? Did you go to the Apple Store and look at all the Leather Loop images. It is 100% clear to me from the pictures that there is no SS exposed on the Leather Loop to clash with the aluminum Sport. It is not even shown that the Leather Loop contains any SS at all. Do you see SS showing on the Leather Loop?

Crap. This is something I had over looked.

Umm... I'm pretty sure this is SS on the leather loop...

Looks like I stand corrected. This doesn't show in the Store pics. It appears to be a very subtle amount of SS at best. It is externally small and looks to be almost invisible. Also it is not next to the case so I don't see it as a clashing problem.

EDIT: Found a real world picture of someone wearing one with the back shown and holding one. However the pic is not very detailed.

And also galvanic corrosion if you pair the SS connectors with the aluminum case in the presence of sweat.

that too... I just meant in reference to the leather loop (no ss connector) being paired with the watch sport.

As long as you have a sport band for active time, the leather loop would be fine during daily use, and looks good with the space grey model.

That's the first real world pic of the leather loop, and one being worn on the wrist. I really don't like that quilted look. I guess I'll just do the standard link bracelet and a sport band for my black SS

An aluminum case with steel crown and buttons.. I would be fearful of galvanic corrosion between the metals in the electrical environment of the watch. The aluminum case would probably be anodized? not sure, but anodized finishes wear off, and aluminum also corrodes on it's own when subjected to moisture (white powder like corrosion that will not come off).

An aluminum watch case I have never seen, and IMO about as cheap material wise as plastic for a watch, and not impressed with the 316 series stainless either.

Out of curiosity, why are you not impressed with 316 series stainless steel? As far as I know (save Rolex), most high end watch companies use the same 316 series stainless steel.

I am also between the SS and the Sports model as well. I am a runner and was wondering how well the SS model would do with sweat? I like the idea of the saphire screen, plus the look of the bands with it. I'm guessing it woud do fine, but was wondering if any of you have had experience with this kind of SS and sweat resistance as I tend to sweat a lot.

Thanks!

I have been vacillating back and forth myself between the Aluminum and SS model. I also wonder how the SS model will do in a workout environment with a lot of sweat and the extra weight.

The SS model is only 2 grams havier than a plastic pebble watch. In other words, it is not as heavy as it may seem. Go see if you can get a hands on a pebble watch. You'll see that it's really light. I definitely see myself using the SS model for workouts.

The aluminum models with the Sport bands are actually heavier than the SS models with the leather straps. However, the leather bands aren't water resistant.

My plan as of now is SS with Leather strap plus sport band. Thats a lot of money though...

I would have preferred a more modern alloy than 316 stainless which is basic *marine grade stainless* that is common in hardware stores. Modern alloys have come a long way for example cobalt alloys that are high strength and corrosion proof - (won't pit in salt water environments like 316 can under hard use). If 316 is finished very well (mirror) it holds up pretty good as an old fashioned nickel alloy stainless.

i would like the SS but for a first gen product the cost is too high.

I know the second gen like the iPad, iPhone etc, will be much better. We don't know for sure the refresh cycle of them. I'm guessing 2 years. Then I'll consider updating. Its like the iPad, for basic functions of checking email, going on safari my third generation iPad is doing ok for its age. My only complaint is the battery life has gone down. Other then that it functions what I want it to. I think the watch will be same way.
