Thanks for the voice of reason. Was kind of how I'm feeling, but hard to tell her that her shiny new super cool watch is just going to get more nicked up. lol

If you are upfront with the Genius Bar, they might be nice and offer an out-of-warranty repair gratis. In any case, they'll at least give you an estimate for fixing it. It does seem odd that it would scratch so quickly without her noticing bumping into things.

For version 2, you might consider splurging the extra $200 for the stainless steel. The sapphire crystal will avoid scratching on the screen (I've had sapphire crystal watches for years). However, the stainless steel watch body itself will be much more prone to scratching than the Series 7000 aluminum of the Sport. 9to5Mac already has an article about this. Stainless steel can be buffed/polished, however, even with a DIY kit (just don't polish more than once or twice a year, though).

That kids seems like an idiot, my sport still has no scratches anywhere.

I like the channel, but I feel like he is much harder on tech than an average person. I've been wearing it for 2 days and I have no scratches or blemishes anywhere on the Watch.

Same thing happened to my Sport :( I already have a few scratches on the upper right corner with no memory of bumping anything. Not a good start for sure.

sell it and order a sapphire? Consumer reports could scratch the sport with a construction nail. They used a near diamond hardness bit on the sapphire and couldn't scratch it.

I am fortunate enough that I am able to buy this watch with my great credit, otherwise I've really got no business having one at all with trying to save, blah blah blah.

HOWEVER - I researched (a little) and asked about the screen. Is it the same as iPhone? And we've all seen how those crack! So, being in the luxury goods business for years, I'm extremely familiar with sapphire crystal so I hesitantly pulled the Stainless Steel trigger after ordering (and canceling) a white sport, then a space grey sport. It's was 200 bucks more, but I thought of the long-term and realized I'd be doing more damage saving the 200 bucks initially.

I'm SURE it's a great sports watch - everyone loves it and they look great. But I just envisioned taking a spill on some concrete and being royally screwed with the sport model, knowing my level of activity and clumsiness.

I think the SS will, of course, nick up, but on my 3k diamond watch, it actually builds some character.

I'm anxiously awaiting mine to arrive hopefully before May 14th!!!

Take it to an Apple Store. Apple is extremely interested in real world damage on new products, so they might exchange it for you so they can take it and analyze it.

I'm pretty sure your warranty fine print states that they WON'T be interested at all. Now you know why the SS costs $200 more than the sport.

I have a very very small scratch on my Space Grey Sport. I was washing my hands at my kitchen sink and when I went to grab the towel I bumped my watch against the counter and it left a small scratch.

You can only see it when it's in the light, but knowing it's there bugs the hell out of me.

I once scraped up the crystal on a Citizen EcoDrive of mine by getting bumped on a busy Michigan Ave. sidewalk in Chicago and brushing my wrist against the stone front of a building. I still remember this moment 8 years later. On the other hand (pun intended) my wife has scratched almost every watch face she owns. She has no recollection of any of these incidences ever happening.

Apple should have used hesalite for the sport watches, people could just polish the scratches when this happens .

Damn! That is quite deep! The problem with watches, is you always bump them. Does Apple replace the screens?
Maybe if one walks by flailing their arms around. The watch isn't that thick. In order for it to come in contact with something to scratch it one must be close enough to objects that their hands brush against those objects.

I can hardly be accused of being an Apple apologist, but I have to wonder how many of these people experiencing scratches wore watches on a regular basis prior to wearing an aWatch.

wow that's crazy!

This. It looks like she bumped her arm against a sharp metal corner or something similar.

Yeah, it looks like a single glancing blow against something hard, seeing as the scratches all run the same direction.
