I'm returning the Milanese Loop I got for my SS for a Sport band (still waiting on shipment) because:

1. It's not comfortable enough to use as a daily band
2. The edges keep snagging my arm hairs (I'm not that hairy)
3. The magnet part of the loop gets scratched very easily.

Forgot to mention if you're not careful when you put your watch on the loop may rub against the watch casing and cause scratches. I'm going to buff out the scratches my SS has after I replace the band.

What size watch is yours? Is there anyway I could buy it from you? Save you a trip to the store...

IMO the anodized texture on Sport is way more interesting than reflective stainless steel. Also stainless scratches instantly, and the Ion-X glass has less glare/reflection than sapphire.

I've had my SS for a week and have no scratches, and I've smashed it on a number of things around the house and office. No trouble reading it out in the sun either. While both statements on scratching more often and having more glare are true, they are only discernible in a lab environment when put to test. In the real world, the glare difference is not noticeable, and the chance of visible-to-the-naked-eye scratches to the side body (and it really is only the side body) of the watch is minimal.

I originally was not interested in buying any gen 1 version of the Apple Watch since I believe they are too overpriced for a gen 1 product. However, I just found out that I can buy any Apple Watch and my employer will reimburse me 50% of the cost (part of a Fitness Subsidy Program - up to $500 reimbursement per year) which is great. I don’t know how long I’ll be at this company so I cannot let this opportunity pass. I’m thinking of getting the $599 42MM SS with BSB. I find that it looks much sleeker that the sport version so I can dress it up or down.

Since I’ll be paying only $300 for my SS watch, I’m thinking that if I sell my watch in 18-24 months, I’ll probably recuperate at least $200 which is pretty great. That being said, if did not have this subsidy and I really wanted to spend $ on a 1st generation Apple Watch, without a doubt I would have purchased the sport version. Right now I see no justification for spending over $400 on a 1st gen watch that will without a doubt be improved a LOT of ways in the next 12-18 months. If this were a more mature product, that had a battery life lasting at least 3 days of normal use and was significantly slimmer, I would then justify spending over $400 on the Apple watch as I would know that the useful life of the watch would be much longer that what the gen 1 will have.

The thing is, I think the Apple watch will have a much longer life than the typical apple products.
It's the 2nd apple product that's not functioning like a 'computer'. The first being the 2nd generation Apple TV. It's merely a tube to the smart device (the iTunes cloud in the case of the Apple TV, and the iPhone in the Apple watch case)

My 2nd generation Apple TV is still serving me amazingly well.

a new CPU wouldn't affect its functionality in the way a new CPU affected the iPhone or the iPad.

You are right, but in the case of the watch, I don't think it will be a CPU issue, it will be a battery issue. I personally will find it extremely annoying to keep charging the watch every single day when used as it was intended to be used, when probably this will be improved significantly as quickly as in the gen 2 version. The gen 1 will keep looking beautiful and will hopefully perform even better with future iOS updates, I just think its the battery life that will make this watch be obsolete. Maybe obsolete is not the correct term, but I think it will be the thing that will make everyone itch for an upgrade, because I highly doubt there could be any other new feature or improvement that will make gen 1 owners want to upgrade to a new version.

I went ahead and ordered a second watch today. 38mm BCB AW. 1-2 week delivery. Also have a 42mm Sport WSB shipping around the same time. To the races. :apple:

The difference between the Sport and Watch is like buying a car the Sport is basic hubcaps, regular CD player and the basic 4 cylinder engine. The watch is you have leather interior, premium sound system, nice wheels and the V6 engine.

Thing is, even if the battery gets 25% better on the Gen 2, you'll still have to charge it nightly or you'll run out of power by mid-day on day two.

So until the battery can run for 48hrs, any incremental increase in battery life will still require a nightly charge.

Besides, unless you're sleeping with the watch on (which, granted, some people want to do), you may as well charge it while it's sitting on your night stand or dresser anyway.

Ehhhh, that fish you caught was 125lbs too, wasn't it?

knowing apple, they'll probably slim the thing down before improving the battery.
battery tech can only go so far - the density of lithium ion batteries wont suddenly improve five fold and cause the watch to last 5 days vs 1 day in one year.
The only way they can improve the battery life, is by improving CPU and screen usage.
They already went the OLED route - not much can be improved there.
Not sure about CPU, Anand hasnt done their review on the CPU yet.

I literally have a Space Gray Sport model and a SS model in my possession and I'm going to end up keeping the SS model. The SGS looks well enough, but the SS model with matching higher quality bands makes it feel more like a watch should be instead of just another tech gadget that the sport model felt like. That is just my humble opinion though.

the colour on Sport much more colourful , but I still like the feel on Apple Watch .

Im exchanging it. Apple is going to ship me a Sport and I'm returning the ML for credit.

I'm actually getting ready to do the same tomorrow and give em a call. The Milanese is getting on my nerves. Sometimes it's fine, other times it's a hair puller and can't get comfortable with it.

I have a leather loop processing with a May ship date. But I'll probably just see if they can send one for the Milanese or consider a sport band.

My space grey Sport arrived yesterday. I haven't opened it yet. Might take back or resell as I like the SS. Plus it would seem to resell for more profit making it better to sell the sport and keep the used SS.

Well, not everyone is saying that. I like the sport and don't think it looks cheap or toylike. The best way to decide is to try one on for yourself.

I think he means in comparison. The Sport on its own doesn't look "toylike". Put it next to the SS and there is a noticable aesthetic difference in material quality.

Yep. Same. The ML pulls at my arm hairs and is a pain at times to deal with. It also causes scuff marks on the casing from the way I'm tightening the band. I was considering the classic buckle instead but sweat + leather = no good (I exercise with mine). The Sport band is the most logical choice.

I had originally pre-ordered both the SS :apple: Watch and the Sport, but after going to the apple store and trying them both I decided to go with the sport. I think the Space Gray Sport looks amazing and I don't think it looks cheap at all. I'm spending $399 on it, why spend $200 more? just for looks? if the SS offered something more like better battery life or something else I would shell out the money, but to me its just not worth it for just the first Gen. I won't lie tho, the SS does look nice so if you like it and don't mind spending the extra $$$ go ahead, but I'm gonna wait and see what the next gen will look like and if I think it's worth it then I'll spend the extra cash.

That is a very smart decision!

That was my way of thinking. My favorite, aside from the Edition, is the black SS but I can't justify the $1K price tag. I might change my mind with the next gen watch.

Haha. Sorry I missed all these somehow. But to answer the question lol...

I have a pretty large watch collection and the sapphire ended up being the deciding factor for me, because I've shattered several watches with mineral glass. Also, for business I feel like the SS will be a little easier to dress up.

Ideally I would have preferred the Space Gray Stainless Link, but I just couldn't justify the price on a watch that will be obsolete in a couple years.

Sorry for the long answer but you guys apparently wanted to know ha.

Odd coincidence, my GF just got her Space Grey Sport today and I have a Milanese Loop.

They are both very nice watches, first of all.

The sport band is very soft although my GF said she doesn't care for it (I liked it).

The Milanese loop is not only a great looking band, it is also very comfortable and the magnet is very strong.

So if you're interested in swapping bands, you want a stronger screen, and like the look of the SS (and can afford it), you won't be disappointed.
But if you just want a smart watch, the sport works just the same and is very nice as well.
