Personally, I think the sport looks better than the SS for one reason - fingerprints.

The SS will look lovely when it's just been polished. After a few hours of greasy fingerprints? I don't think so.

Also one of the reasons I ordered the sport.

I put the Aluminum and Stainless Steel models side by side, and that shine on the Stainless Steel model really makes the Aluminum version seem toyish. I still have trouble swallowing the $200 difference, and I'm still considering the fact that it's a first-gen device

This was my reaction as well. I was all set on the Sport but after seeing them in person and how well the stainless looked relative, I may talk myself into it. The matte finish combined with the band on the sport models did make it seem more "casual" than I was expecting as well (perhaps not toyish but I know what you mean).

I agree with the OP. I personally tried on the SS first (this is the model I pre-ordered) and it felt great. Had nice weight that made it feel very nice and just had a good feeling and fitting on my wrist. The Sport model just wasn't right for me I guess. The entire time it was on I kept trying to adjust it and it just couldn't fit right. Oh well, I guess paying up for the SS was worth it for me

If the watches have the same band they should fit the same, the only difference in feel is the weight.

Personally, I was unpleasantly surprised by how heavy the SS model is. I figure I'll get used to it, so I bought it anyway, but I prefer the weight of the Sport.

I thought it felt good in the store, and I also think I will become better over time as the band gets worked in and molds to your wrist.

You guys are probably not serious athletes and are not runners. I am a runner and when I run, every extra gram of weight on my wrist feels like an extra pound. That is what aluminum is for - it is the lightest material. If you don't exercise than the stainless steel model would be better for you. But if you re serious about going to the gym you would appreciate the lighter aluminum model.

I just qualified for the 2016 Boston Marathon 6 weeks ago. I assume that makes me a "serious" runner. But you're right – that extra 20 grams of SS on my wrist makes it unlikely I'll win the race next year ;-)

I tried it with the rubber strap and it felt light and cheap. But as I said I'd just taken off a watch that weighs 112.8g so maybe that is why. I'll book another appointment. That strap you have one seems much better than the rubber I tried, but not sure it would be useful in the gym?

I pre-ordered the space grey sport watch because it's less expensive and I expect I'll be replacing it with a 2nd generation model in a year or so. Besides, the aluminum is lighter than steel — you should hardly know you're wearing it.

I like the darker watches over the lighter silver-tone ones because they blend in better with the black face of the watch. I figured the space black stainless steel was nicer (that's the one Darth Vader would order), but no way was I going to spend $1,100 dollars on a 1st gen product. Then when I saw them in the store, I was surprised that I actually preferred the matte aluminum finish.

Never heard the saying "hey look at my nice new dull watch" lol....now I have heard the saying "hey look at my nice new shinny watch"

Well, that highlights a difference between you and me. I don't want a shiny watch. I like the satin finish. The stainless steel looks fantastic (and it's certain to be more durable), but I don't want the watch to stand out. I'm not going to say to anyone "hey look at my nice new shinny watch". I don't care if you don't notice I'm wearing it or think it's cheap. I'm not trying to impress someone — to me the watch is just a tool for my personal use.

I think all the versions of the Apple Watch look great. I also love Apple's videos on how they create them — all sorts of sparks and waterfalls of molten metal. You can view them here if you haven't seen them:
Jony Ive has a wonderful voice. I love how he says "aluminium" (the British pronunciation sounds much more poetic than the American). I doubt Jony would ever describe aluminum as "cheap".

Not for the gym in my opinion due to sweat . I don't know at least I wouldn't . I'm using the leather for my casual attire and the black rubber band for my workouts . Thinking of buying a white band as well to change it up at the gym. I work out 5-6 times a week, that leather band would be destroyed within a couple of weeks if I wore that leather band everyday to the gym .

I had my second try on yesterday (Liverpool) after finding the Sports grey too loose or too tight on 1st try on.

My wrist is about 200mm and I found the 5th hole in the strap fine now.

I'm also certain I made the right descision on the less expensive sports its feather light and ideal for me (1st gen and all).

I agree with you that there's this class war being started and because someone likes the entry level model they are labeled as not being able to afford any other models.

I think it's quite pathetic how people re trying to justify their more expensive models by bashing the lower ones. It's personal preference.

I could have gone in and bought an edition if I wanted to, as could most of the people who bought a sport - but they chose not to. Quite frankly, anybody who has the money to buy a sport, and who has an iPhone 5+, will probably be able to afford the SS if they wanted to. $200 isn't exactly hard to find for most iPhone owners.

I ordered the silver Sport and it should hopefully arrive next week. I haven't been able to take a look at the watch in person and most likely won't before the watch arrives, but I can understand what some people mean when they say the Sports edition looks cheap. It reminds me of some plastic toys and such.
Still, I'm glad I ordered it. The main reasons I ordered the silver Sports edition are because I plan to workout with it and I figure I'll pick up a nicer edition when Gen 2 or 3 comes out. For now, I'm happy with just testing the waters in Gen 1 with a Sports edition.
It's now the end of the day on Friday! One more week left!

Why didn't you consider the SS if you thought the Sport was cheap?

I don't like stainless steel on a sports watch and to by the Apple Watch in space black you have to get it with that black stainless steel link bracelet which I don't want. I'll be using it as a sports watch for sports only.

Yeah I'm the same, at least 5 times a week so need something durable that'll hold up. I guess when I'm out running or cycling I'll probably get used to it. I think I'll keep the order and see how it goes. I may get used to it.

It just never felt like it was on right. Like something was missing. I've never owned a sports watch so used to SS or leather straps so perhaps it's that. They've also made this one lighter, which makes sense if you're running with it I guess.

I've had a shocker then haven't I?

I've got the 38mm Sport Watch with Blue band which the masses on here have deemed a girls watch, and now the Sport is deemed to be cheap and a knockoff....

I wonder why I've even bothered to get one.... lol

You got one because that's your preference, and there is nothing wrong with that. Don't let anyone make feel doubtful about your choice to get the Sport model. The material mybe different but they are the same internally. Enjoy your watch when u get it, u paid good money for it anyway. I got the SS for two reasons, one that's my preference. 2nd I treid the SG is b the 10th, I was disappointed. Because the color didn't pop for my complexion.

The SS however the reaction from my wife and her girlfriends. Says it all, they like wow! That's the one for sure. As much as I didn't want to spend 200 more. I agreed with them totally, here a few shots. In the end be happy with your choice I don't listen to the foolishness.

What is the point of this? By all accounts the vast majority of people have bought the sport version, either because they liked it best or it was all they could afford or they're waiting to see how they like it before investing in the SS version. Are you just trying to make them feel bad for their choice? That's pretty mean spirited. If that version is not to your taste fine, but obviously millions of people disagree with you as they bought that version. Why be nasty and negative about it?
