What I don't understand about student discount is that my kids as a high school students they don't get a freakin discount. They don't make money a discount would help parents a little bit. :D
Student discount means higher education, that is "College" in USA or "University" in Europe. Not someone in the school system (5-18 yrs old)

If that's the only proof needed for student status, what's to prevent all faculty and staff with .edu addresses from signing up for the entire length of their employment? I mean besides their own ethical consciences.
Spotify uses (or at least they did a couple years ago) a third party service that verifies your enrollment in an institution of higher education for you to sign up for the student discount. I know because I tried to register when I worked in IT for a medical school. Can't fault them for it. More services should probably do it, actually.

I tried to sign up but they couldn't confirm my student account, the manual way is to fill out a form. For whatever reason it didn't work even though I am using my student email address.

FYI.. You need to "renew" your student eligibility every year, once you "graduate" you no longer get the student discount. (this is different than other services where you pay the student price until you "cancel"

Because high school is free but college isn’t.

High school isn't free. Someone is paying for it, it doesn't operate on good will and fairy dust. That someone is taxpayers and in many jurisdictions the avg. tax bill is $7-12K. Also in many jurisdictions what is called "public school" is more like nursery school with 50%+ of graduating students not qualified to go on to college. In those areas a lot of parents do opt for private high school which can cost as much as some colleges.

If they have a .edu email address then this applies to them.

How smart is the registration algorithm. Think it would be fooled by alumni.edu? :D

Not sure where you got your info, but you are incorrect.

Yup.

If you own a property you pay for school taxes regardless of whether or not you go. It’s an indirect tax cost. Going to college is directly paid wholly by you (minus aid) and benefits solely you with the money you put in. Sure you can pay for better schools but that isn’t the point.

Precisely. You act like public school is free.

I don't act like its free. EVERYONE pays for it no matter what. Just like how everyone pays for unemployment even when you have a job and don't receive it. Do you go over to your unemployed friend's house and say "you're welcome for that check" ? No you don't. Stop being obtuse about this. You know the point I'm making.

The obtuse ones are those who don't understand how social services are paid for and just use them.
