Finally! Gee, I thought they were waiting for M2 to introduce M1 support.

Installing now...

It's amusing that it has "native" support even though it's still a garbage web electron framework app (uh "Chromium Framework" now) with terrible UI as always. If I have to log into spotify for some specific content I appify the spotify website (https://open.spotify.com) with an app like Unite, rather than use the garbage 100+ MB spotify app.

Now if only they would give us an actual native app instead of this electron garbage. I think catalyst would be a great option for them!
Spotify doesn't use Electron, it's CEF (Chromium Embedded Framework) with native components written in C++.

Their UI is MUCH more bearable than the one from Apple Music on macOS...
I've always wondered why people have such problems with AM lol. It has always served me well even when it was still iTunes, anecdotally speaking.

Will they introduce fair pay for artists too?
Aren’t they rich enough already? Many of them drive the newest Ferrari, Mercedes AMG or golden Hummer, have a Mansion with big Pool, Whirlpool, Sauna, and Basketball court near the beach, all full with twerking bikini girls. At least their Music Videos shows this.

Poor artists…

IMO coming from using spotify regularly to Apple Music, the biggest drawback is that it always forgets what you were playing, it doesn't transfers what you were listening in one device to the other.

And their AI for picking songs that I would like is miles away from Spotify, I found having to think for myself what I wanna listen rather than just opening the app and clicking some of the playlist made for me.

Oh snap! The only thing that would make this comment better, would be for it to be true!

Apple Music on macOS is a nightmare of an app. Some examples:
  • Unlike Spotify, the search is not instant, I have to hit return + it takes some time loading while Spotify gives me the results straight away while typing (sometimes I even have to hit return multiple times to get results)
  • In the songs list, you can't click on an album name/artist to go to their page, you have to right-click and select it there instead
  • apparently there are two forms of playlists, the one from the browse tab (where you can click on artists for example) and the ones that you've added to your library (where it's like the songs page, I can't click on anything).
  • you can't drag and drop songs from playlists (that you're not following, so playlists from the browse tab) in your playlists but have to use right-click instead (might have changed meanwhile idk)
  • sometimes songs take a few seconds to start playing while Spotify starts playing instantaneously
  • and one of the biggest flaws: if you add songs to both your library and your playlist and later decide to remove it from your library, it automatically gets also deleted from all of your playlists
Spotify is far from being a perfect app, but their macOS app is SO MUCH BETTER in comparison. I really liked the iOS Music App, but the iTunes-like app for macOS is garbage.

I guess you're right with those points. Frankly, I never noticed because I hardly ever use the Music app unless I want to control my HomePod's from my Mac, create a smart playlist, or if I need to edit metadata for locally uploaded songs.

When will they fix the horrible UI?

This! I’ve been sticking to a February 2021 version of Spotify configured to the “classic” UI, because I hate the new desktop UI so much! Partly because it’s ugly and dysfunctional, but also because it’s really slow.

But now that there’s an M1 native version, maybe I’ll give it another chance!

(Tip: if you remove write permission from Spotify.app in “Get Info”, it can’t update itself)

This is Capitalism. Artists are fuel for the furnace that prints the money! Duh.
So the argument that developers who don't like Apple's App Store rules/fees are free to go elsewhere doesn't pertain to music artists who don't like what Apple pays them? Seems your logic is a bit one-sided if you ask me...

Now if only Teams, Onedrive, and Discord would do the same. In fact I wish Teams and Discord would drop the hot garbage that is Electron and be written natively. I like Teams but it is such a laggy inefficient mess, if they wrote it in native code and polished it a bit more it would be extremely valuable. Discord isn't quite as bad but it's still not great.

No need. It’s great unless you listen to audio books. I fail to understand what is so bad about it. One page with everything that is new or suggested to you, another page of genres or „moods“ and finally you have playlists, albums, artists or if you like it really messy, just everything thrown into one recently played list. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Not going to use this product from a predatory, monopolistic anti consumer company that is Spotify. 😂

The podcasts interface is atrocious. What's also criminal is the different feature set between iOS app, macOS app and the web app. For example on iOS you can see a list of recent podcast episodes from your favorite shows but you can't get that on other platforms. Why??? They probably hired former Google or Microsoft UI designers to design their apps.
