Exactly.

And it’s not like HomePod support is earth shattering. It’s pretty useless to control Apple Music with Siri, there’s no reason Spotify would fare any better.

So it’s seems logical Spotify focuses to support technologies and features that do work.
I control my HomePod with siri 90% of the time and it works about 90% of the time without any issues. I dont know what is going on with people. It sure sucks at answering basic questions but playing music...no trouble.

Something is wrong at Spotify. I wonder how much longer they can last. They don’t seem to be able to add anything, and promised features like AirPlay and the HiFi tier have been downgraded to vaporware as they just promise new features “eventually.”
I'm honestly surprised they are still operating now... They lost nearly €500M last year. And that was a good year. How long can a company operate with 6 figure losses annually and NEVER turn a profit before the doors are shuttered for good?

It really is the best music streaming experience by a mile. Their AI is so good.
  • Spotify's AI is fantastic great for crate digging and introducing new (relevant) music. Apple SUCKS for this.
  • Sound quality is HORRIBLE on alot of stuff I listen to - with many older tracks being sometimes vinyl rips, low bitrate rips or loudened to hell (I have it set to quiet in volume level).
  • I really dislike how much they pay artists.
  • There's really no excuse for not having homepod support or lossless at this stage of the game. With their marketshare they should be making money hand over fist and yet somehow they aren't. Curious.

Ummm Spotify needs to check where the people are. My guess there’s a lot more than 5k ppl complaining about this on Twitter. Nobody uses their product request thing because they never implement 90% of what’s on there.

Didn't Spotify just lay off a bunch of their employees back in January? I don't think they're in any shape to improve their services anytime soon. :p

(they'll probably do what they've done for so long: complain to EU officials and rest on their laurels)

...You can just connect to the homepod and use spotify from your phone though? Let's not suddenly pretend Siri is awesome.

Spotifys whole universal control thing is much superior to airplay 2 anyway.

LMAO. It's never coming. Anyone who is serious about the quality of the music they listen to won't use Spotify. They still haven't delivered lossless. AirPlay 2 launched half a decade ago and they still don't support that? On top of that, they payout the artists less than Apple Music and TIDAL.

Spotify launched a "Time to Play Fair" website that lists alleged examples of Apple's unfair practices, including preventing Spotify from natively supporting the HomePod. Yet, nearly three years after Spotify has been able to support the HomePod without any further action from Apple, it has yet to follow through.

This is seriously f*cked up. Why complain if you didn’t (ever) intend to support the feature.

It shouldn't...but it's all about reputation.
For personal choices I stuck with apple music (which I like very much), but with every social gathering I participate to people assume automatically I use Spotify (regardless of them being team android or apple), and whenever I tell them "No, I use apple music" they look at me like I'm an alien.
I sometimes feel they think I'm weird or using something "different" just to be eccentric.

Apple sold hardly any Homepods its probably not worth them bothering with. Why bother doing the work to support a platform that nobody uses? :)
Yet they thought it worth them bothering to complain that Apple didn’t allow them to support the HomePod that they had no intention of supporting? So then they are just a disingenuous business. That’s an epic look for them!

I’m assuming (or actually hoping, I guess) that by that third complaint, you meant how little they pay artists! 🙁

Theirs is the best in the category, more than double the amount of paying subscribers than Apple. The market has spoken. :)

Not all paying subscribers are equal though.

I believe Apple Music would be more popular in countries with a higher iphone user base, which also tends to be developed countries where users have more disposable income. This would also be where users would be paying more each month, and would thus be prized by both services.

In contrast, Spotify seems to be gaining more traction in developing countries where android devices are more popular. These users are also likely paying a heavily discounted rate because their earning power is lesser.

I won’t be surprised if Apple Music is making more money than Spotify despite the latter having more users. It’s not that dissimilar to how the smartphone market is playing out (iOS has the lion’s share of profits despite having way lesser market share).

LOL! Not Spotify engaged in the “Anti-Competetive“ behavior they say Apple is doing to them. 🤦🏾‍♂️🤨

It appears to be working since Spotify’s growth continues to outpace Apple Music’s, based on the last update I read anyway. Their AI is just better, the way it introduces you to new music. And the interface is light years ahead, they’re still never made Apple Music make any sense. It’s kinda ridiculous…
