There's millions of obscure tracks on there. They don't have as much as itunes but there's a hell of a lot.

You're right. Got one of the beta codes (thanks smythey!!!), the selection is impressive. I imagine most of my library is on here, and a bunch of other stuff I've been thinking about buying is as well. Definitely going to go premium.

Anyone been streaming over 3G? How is the performance and quality? I plan on using this mostly for mobile purposes.

pretty good. You can stream high quality versions so if you have unlimited data its worth it

Def a cool service but iTunes has way more songs.

I was able to find some unsigned or small label artists on Spotify but only their first record where iTunes has all their albums.

I'm going to use this service to "sample" music I like and buy it on iTunes. the iTunes 1:30 second previews is great but this is like a full song preview that you can buy through iTunes.

Also how is it so lightening fast?! I mean that alone is a beautiful thing. No lag, zippy as heck.

I guess they mean unlimited as it is used in broadband advertising not as it is used in English.

They mean unlimited, as in you can play music 24/7 on it without anybody complaining. The same account can only access music at one device at the time, so if you want to use it in two devices simultaneously then you'll need two accounts.

No. That's not correct. Drag the album to the playlist. Works like expected.

/ET

Yup, or on iOS devices in the album view click on add to an then add it to a playlist of your choice. :)

What's also cool is I'm listening to songs I haven't heard in years b/c I just can't justify buying them on iTunes but this is like a free for all of free music on demand.

hell yeah Sweet Judy Blue Eyes. What a Great song. I haven't heard you in years.

I use a streaming service from Taiwan called KKBox. It's only $4/month and cross platforms (iphone/android/pc/mac/linux), offline playlist, downloads, music videos, 3 devices per account, lyric...etc. It has all the latest songs from U.S., UK and Asia of course. Too bad they limited the sign-up process in Taiwan only (means you need a proxy) But after that you can listen to everywhere. They are in the process to coming into U.S. I'm sure they will beat the **** out of Spotify when it's opened to U.S. customers.

Bad for artists, great for keeping parasitical middle men (record execs) in jaguars and ho's.

I would rather buy DIRECTLY from the artist and cut out THE FAT!!!

Services like Spotify are most likely making it an order of magnitude more viable to self-publish music, much like self-publishing on Kindle is now a viable option.

I.e. see:

Edit:

Oh, and I´ve been using Spotify (Premium) for years, never looked back.

Have there been any details yet about how the catalog compares to the UK version?

I have a premium UK account that I've been using in the US for a long time now, and I'm very happy with it.

I don't want to switch to a US one if I'm going to get a crippled catalog...

woke up
saw it was finally here
got out my CC and paid the $10
So happy

FYI, you can sign up for the free account on the uk site using a proxy. No invite necessary.

Eight hours later and this is perhaps the best purchase of the year. Cant wait to get home and try it via Sonos. Will be walking from zone to zone with a big smile.

As an experiment, I've removed all 1300 songs from my iPod Library (on the iPhone) and am now currently syncing those 1300 songs to the Spotify application. I'll see how well it works. Services like MOG and Rdio are great, but I don't want to use two separate apps.
