You're right. Got one of the beta codes (thanks smythey!!!), the selection is impressive. I imagine most of my library is on here, and a bunch of other stuff I've been thinking about buying is as well. Definitely going to go premium.

Anyone been streaming over 3G? How is the performance and quality? I plan on using this mostly for mobile purposes.

I've been streaming over 3G in a lousy reception area for about an hour now at high quality and its doing fine. Seems to take about 10 seconds between songs, but the sound quality is great!

I am on the train now, streaming via mifi to an iPad. Normally Pandora is sketchy. Not a single drop out so far.

Been using this for the last hour or so and honestly meh...

I really dont like the interface, yes songs load fast and quality is good but after using rdio for the last month I can't imagine investing in spotify.

Rdio allows me to easily add albums to my collection in spotify you have to find each song and can make a playlist. I like full albums and so far Ive not found a way to do that in spotify.

Also only allowing one device in use at the same time even offline in offline mode sucks!

Not sure if anyone commented on this, and I don't have time to read through the whole thread.

You can actually add albums to your playlists in a couple of ways. You first search for the artist/song/album, and them click on the name of the album itself and choose "Add to". Or you simply drag them to the desired playlist. Or you can click on the artist to get a full list of all the available albums and so on.

Regarding the using of one device at the same time, this one is quite obvious. Or else everyone would share accounts. But actually in offline-mode you can still listen for 30 days withouth going online. This offline device can ofcourse play music at the same time as an online device.

Just trying to clear things up :)

Great news!
I sure hope the increased demand lead to an iPad app eventually.

But what is up with the US prices? Almost half the price of the Norwegian ones...
For Premium I pay NOK 99, which equals USD 18. While US members just pay USD 9,99. That is not treating customers equally!

With something like Spotify why would anyone use the Amazon CloudDrive?

The iCloud I understand b/c that should have been standard from day 1. If I bought a song apple should track that until the end of time and let me download it until the end of time. If you want to own music i understand this.

Who is going to spend hours and hours and hours uploading to Amazon's system which I could be mistaken but I think it's also more expensive than spotify.

Spotify was smart to copy the iTunes interface just like Samsung was smart to Copy the iPhone. It's cheating but smart.

Streaming is so 2009.

Considering that the iTunes Store is so 2003, I know what I'm choosing.

Spotify was smart not to copy the iTunes Store, since that's the past.

About the GUI, I think I could name a number of image viewers with almost the exact layout too, did they also copy Apple?

I don't know a lot of other image viewers out there but I think the majority of the listening public is familar and comfortable with iTunes so the look and feel is very iTunes like. If others also look just like it I have no idea but when the spotify app popped up i thought "darker colored version of iTunes."

It's a rather classical GUI design, and I doubt that Apple was first with it.

The Spotify and iTunes interfaces look a lot like FastStone.

That looks nothing like Spotify or iTunes.
I'm not saying iTunes was first first with that design. I'm sure not even close. I'm just saying that spotify could have gone in a lot of different directions with the skin of the interface. They chose the iTunes route. iTunes is the defacto music interface at this point. Spotify just made it look darker.

One thing I really like about Spotify,

I can easily enable/disable Last.FM scrobbling from the app itself.

I signed up this morning and I'll be canceling at the end of the month. Sure the interface is great but the collection is crap. They claim they have 13 million songs but not in the US they don't. Albums like "Adele - 21" and "One Republic - Waking up" are no where to be found.

Edit: After some googling it seems they do have it but when I click a link to it and open it in Spotify it says "Not available in America"

I use Rdio and am sticking with it until spotify gets some more lisences.

Congratulations US! I used the "too good to be true" Free version since launch (2007?) and now I'm a happy Premium subscriber. I can't imagine being without it. I'm also glad to see the dinosaur that is iTunes now has some real competition.

Just so you know i guess the 9.99 in the US is without tax, while the prices here in europe include tax. So for example here in Sweden it costs SEK 99, and we have a VAT of 25%. That makes SEK 80 to Spotify and 20 to the government. SEK 80 equals 12.3 USD. So it's almost the same.

Can't find the radio function...

I made my account without an invite using a work around off of Lifehacker. I can't seem to find any radio functionality, including artist radio. Anyone know why I am missing this? Here's what my sidebar looks like:

I checked my receipt from my Spotify transaction this morning and tax is either included for the $4.99 or is not collected due to some other reason.

As for the collection, I find it amazing. I had the Zune pass before and didn't have nearly as much stuff as Spotify. It also works on more of my devices other than my Zune HD. While it doesn't have the "Latest" or some of the other hold outs (I'm looking at you Led Zeppelin and Beatles) There is plenty to keep me going. I've heard quite a few things today that I wouldn't have dreamed of finding in the past.

Spotify = New and Old Music all you can eat at a cheap price

Netflix = 80's and 90's movies all you can eat at a cheap price.

When will the vice grip of movie studios be released? the music lables are on their knees begging for mercy.

I want spotify for movies and tv shows. I can't wait for the year 2020. I'm sure it'll happen by then.

Streaming makes more sense to me for tv shows and movies anyway. You watch a TV show once. Why would I buy it? You listen to music over and over again so it justifies the purchase through iTunes.

Netflix = Current TV Shows on DVD, all you can eat as well. I've watch all of Top Gear, Dr. Who, and Eureka that way. I would say that Spotify is the equivalent to where Netflix is moving.

Not available in the free version.

yeah TV shows is actually pretty decent. I agree. It's those darm movies.

The movie business is baffling.

1. huge in theater massive release $$$$$$
2. DVD sales $$$$
3. iTunes sales $$
4. eventual netflix license sales $
4. merchandise sales (sometimes $ and sometimes $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$)

rinse and repeast. Of course there are the occassional dud movies and it's a huge investment and risk to create a movie but man the payout is sure sweet if you can pull it off.

Agreed. I hope Netflix can continue to get some deals and get more current movies streaming in HD. None of the SD junk.
