If spotify has deep siri integration with iOS 10 that would be a big plus for them because Apple Music is one of Siris best uses imo. Also it should be noted that Spotify is not actually profitable the last time I checked and their entire business could be crushed in an instant by the record labels

Competition is good when it comes to this stuff. I am currently using Spotify and Google Music to take my iTunes collection with me on my phone. There are a lot of good options for consumers right now and that benefits all of us.

I can't possibly imagine why Apple needed to overhaul the UI. I mean, it was just last year that Jimmy Iovine lectured everyone at how terrible their UI's were and how great Apple's was. How could it possibly have needed overhauling?
I love the new UI. Don't miss the previous one at all and I've been using it since WWDC. Much cleaner and easier to use.

With the new improved Apple Music UI, can't think of one advantage of using Spotify

1. The ability to control the stream from any device that has Spotify, even if it's not the one driving the music. Not only simple controls but to browse and select new music.

2. Social sharing / following is vastly superior. Also, more friends use Spotify in general. May very by person of course.

3. Better, lighter, more responsive desktop app.

4. Way easier to share family plan benefits with remote family and friends.

Only thing Apple Music has which I want is Siri integration. I'm guessing that's why Apple is holding that feature back from the new Siri SDK.

let me know when apple music can do this

Replace all the chrome devices with Apple TVs and airplay enabled stereos and speakers.

Yeah, it's more costly but with the exception of the Playstation I'm letting you know Apple Music can do that.

Spotify = pay money & listen to what you want on any device - no messing with your own libraries. Apple Music has that whole "your library will live in the cloud" feature which I have never fully "got" and more to the point I don't want a streaming music service to go anywhere near ANY file on my own hardware. Maybe that's part of the problem with Apple music - too messy a proposition and they don't make it clear up-front if there is an option to keep the app away from locally stored files. If I have got the wrong end of the stick then it just reinforces that their marketing is confusing.

This confusion was a heavy factor in why I left. If you are streaming everything itunes has to offer, why does your library need to be in the cloud?? Your library is pointless if you can stream almost everything that exists. I couldnt tell if i was looking at something i owned, had downloaded to the phone, or was just saved for streaming.

Ahh, statistics. It's funny, but both can claim they are outpacing their competition. Spotify by raw users and Apple by percentage. Apple has grown 55% since March, Spotify 33%. So keep this pace, and will Apple will outgrow Spotify.

Not saying they will, but that's just how statistics work. It's for the user to abuse.

To be honest, Apple Music is terrible, the worst onboarding I have ever experienced (forcing me to choose my fav bands, tracks etc..) - ridicules. After that the frustrating "iTunes experience" ...

Spotify is just perfect. If Apple Music remains as it is, they will never force me to use it (even for free).

Don't get me wrong, I really LOVE APPLE, and their products (using them more than 10 years now), but those "experiences" they serving us (Apple Music/iTunes) are just ******.

I guess Spotify complaining about how Apple is hurting them with their app rules is ******** then. Not that we didn't already know that.

The other important exception you're missing is other computers, phones and tablets running Spotify. Apple really need to let you control iTunes on your Mac from your iPhone, for example

I still love Spotify, so easy. Could not deal with Apple Music anymore, Apple it's not ready yet, they getting people just because of the name Apple. And I loved my Apple products, but with the music part they are way behind. Sorry Apple, Spotify still the King!!!!!

It is confusing, but if you have used iTunes or iTunes Match in the past, it isn't too much more complex.

WIth the exception of the beginnings of iTunes Match, I am not aware of wide spread issues where people's personal music is deleted.

If you don't want a streaming service to go near your hardware, how are you listening to spotify? Do you only have it on a work phone, a rental, or a friends device? Or did you mean you don't want streaming music to go near your own files?

At the end of the day, backing up music data is not difficult, the confusion in Apple's system comes from figuring out which music you own, versus which is "leased". That said, sorting by file type on iTunes will help reveal which is which.

How much newer is Apple Music....? I'm willing to bet Spotify didn't have 17 million paying subscribers after 18 months.

How much smaller was Spotify's ecosystem and userbase when they started their service compared to Apple's? Oh right, it was non-existent. Spotify built their service with 40 million users from nothing.
