To those commenters who talk about Spotify not making money. It aint really an issue since record labels co-own the Spotify.

As long as I need to use the bloated dinosaur that is iTunes on desktop Apple music is a no go. Make a WebPlayer - Not to mention you can do Spotify right off the PS4.

How much smaller was Spotify's ecosystem and userbase when they started their service than Apple's was? Oh right, it was non-existent. Spotify built their service with 40 million users from nothing.
In all fairness, Apple has spent decades building up their user base. Apple wasn't just given their user base. Yes for the music streaming part you are correct, but still.

The other important exception you're missing is other computers, phones and tablets running Spotify. Apple really need to let you control iTunes on your Mac from your iPhone, for example

Unless you're talking about a specific example, you can control playback from your iTunes library on a Mac with any iOS device via Apple Remote app.

Of course. The point of my post was that, since the comment I replied to seemingly wanted to contextualize things, I just provided more context.

The killer Spotify feature for me is being able to go to https://play.spotify.com and having the full Spotify experience right there in my browser, no apps required. That's just great at work, or when you're using someone else's computer. The curated weekly playlists like "New Music Friday", "Release Radar" and "Discover Weekly" are also just fantastic in quality and I always look forward to them.

Since the iPad Pro is my MAIN computing device I find the new Apple Music vastly superior...if only for the fact there is now split screen support. Something Spotify doesn't offer on iPad. Also their app is still using the old short lived sliding card interface (circa 2012). Just doesnt feel right on iPad. Also if you have a personal library AM is the best way to go. New interface is really nice once you get used to it.

With the new improved Apple Music UI, can't think of one advantage of using Spotify
For me:

1) Discover Weekly - works just fantastically well for me (still have to try the new Apple equivalent though)
2) The wealth of user-generated playlists
3) I like that it keeps subscription music separate from my personal music library

And get this, Spotify still works with Windows XP and PowerPC!
PowerPC?????? what is this 1999?????

Aside from that mobile is the future (obviously) and I'm willing to bet 90 percent of Apple Music and paid Spotify users are using it on a mobile device primarily.

And Spotify is still losing money. Their business model is unsustainable.

Staying with Apple Music for the superior curated playlists and For You recommendations I get, which I find uncanny in their ability to guess what I'd be interested in hearing.

Can you transfer playback from Mac to your iOS device at the same point you left off? Can you control playback on your iOS device from your Mac?

Also, can you form a group of Apple TVs and AirPlay devices that play music in sync?

I use Apple devices almost exclusively and I love their stuff. When it comes to music I've tried them all and to me, nothing beats Google Play Music. The simple fact that you can upload your own music to the service is what does it for me. Apple does this too but it made a mess of my library, playing live versions of songs in place of studio versions and visa versa.

Not to mention the Google Playlists that are based on time of day (e.g. Making Dinner, Stay Focused) are among the best I've found.

Given it's full feature set, Google is my one stop shop for music and I love that I can plug any gaps (of which there are few) with my own music easily. No switching between apps to play different albums.

Spotify code wise is sub standard; and its resource issues are apparent if you ignore it for several hours one ends up with a very sluggish, UI that often locks up for 10 or more seconds. This happens on OS X and Linux. The Mobile UI/UX is not intuitive at all.

But the feature that Spotify doesn't allow mapping to local but visible music folders/library w/o crashing on the desktop client, even after 5 years of attempts speaks to how poor their network programming code is.

I still love Spotify, so easy. Could not deal with Apple Music anymore, Apple it's not ready yet, they getting people just because of the name Apple. And I loved my Apple products, but with the music part they are way behind. Sorry Apple, Spotify still the King!!!!!

I haven't subscribed to either, but Apple Music in iOS 10 is brain dead intuitive.

Apple was late to the game with the Student subscription. And even if I wanted to switch to AM, I'd have to transfer hundreds of songs over to it, some of which might not even be available. Not worth my time.

There are tools to import your collection.

If a feature of Apple Music was to offer it as a feature, would you do the trial?

From what I've read Spotify is still losing money. How long can they continue to remain competitive with Apple and still continue to lose money?

Changed from Spotify to Apple Music last month and I have no regrets. Even though the Spotify interface is a tad better, I prefer the suggestions by Apple Music, so much more personal!

Both Spotify and Apple Music have public APIs that the other could use to make transferring playlists super easy.

Spotify allows you to transfer your playlists from Apple Music to Spotify. Apple doesn't offer the same in reverse.

Anyone with a bit of time and scripting knowledge could easily write it themselves (and I'd be surprised if it doesn't already exist), but most people wouldn't know to search around for such a thing.
