Sonos speakers offer more bang for the buck (especially with their outstanding IKEA variants) and support everything under the sun (including Apple Music!) I’m surprised anyone buying a HomePod isn’t already fully locked into Apple’s ecosystem and has Apple Music anyway.

That said, Spotify’s personal playlists blow anything Apple offers out of the water. And I could see someone wanting that on a HomePod. Alas.

Apple Music works seamlessly with the HomePod, so it's odd for people IMO to choose to use a different music service anyway.
Exactly. Why would anybody with Spotify buy a HomePod, hoping it would one day integrate with their speakers.

If Spotify doesn’t care some users switch platforms because their service doesn’t support a proprietary smart speaker with a tiny market share, so be it.

More than Apple does then.

Buy a song? No lyrics for you.

Subscribe to Apple Music voice plan? No lyrics for you.

Pay for a full price subscription or no lyrics. Apple isn’t just being spiteful, the bandwidth of those few hundred words really cuts into their profit margin.
Not EVERYONE needs lyrics. You’re assumption is that everyone has the same needs. Rag on Apple all you want, but there’s different options for different people

Dropped Apple Music a year ago for Spotify and never looked back.

I subscribe to both but Spotify has rarely been used for about 18 months now. The only good thing about it is it's speed and the new weekly playlist - of which Apple's is very close in quality now.

Having my entire music library managed in Music, seamlessly mixing my own exclusive stuff with things from Apple Music synced across every device is unbeatable.

I'm about to cancel my Apple Music subscription due to lack of native Sonos integration. One of the stupidest corporate spats in the history of technology. I guess Apple thought HomePod would overtake Sonos.

I'm a homepod and spotify user and I don't really care. I just airplay everything anyway. I only really use Siri to ask the weather and set timers. Lol.

Spotify is miles ahead of apple music.
Been like that forever. I get the music free trial every year or so and cancel before it renews.
New stuff discovery, playlists, UI and speed not to mention alternative genres artist availability.
Apple music what? please.

AND who buys the garbagepod anyway.

The most surprising part of this story is that there were actually Spotify users who bought HomePods. Lol.
Some of us are invested in HomeKit, and having HomePods spread around the house, vastly improve performance and responsiveness. Therefore it is inconvenient that Spotify is incompatible with HomePods. The switch to Apple Music was a no brainer for me in that regard.
