I'm on ATT today, with an iPhone 4, and my 2 year agreement is up in Mid November.

For $80, on ATT, I only get 200 mb of download and 200 text messages. I never use even close to the 450 minutes of talk time I'd get on both.

So, for even money on Sprint, I'd go from 200 mb to unlimited data, and 200 text messages to unlimited text messages. Not bad! I was a Sprint customer for 8 years, and so was my wife, before we split to ATT for the iPhone. I have a feeling we'll be going back.

I don't have a ton of complaints about ATT. Occasionally, due to the sheer popularity of the iPhone in the NYC area, it can be tough to make a call or get decent data coverage. But that is not typical elsewhere.

I think it boils down to download speed and cost. Though I may just wait until the iPhone 5. I have zero complaints about my current iPhone4, except that I want 64GB of storage and it would be nice to have Siri support.

I'm in the same boat. Data speeds are my biggest concern. I know AT&T will be faster on 3G but unlimited is really tempting. Plus my bill will be cheaper a month. I will probably switch, especially since my upgrade is not available until Feb 2012.

There isn't an actual 4G standard.

LTE is still considered as 3.9G. Proper 4G is LTE Advanced.

Carriers branding HSPA+ and WiMAX as 4G are laughable at best.

I looked on Wikipedia ... seemed like legit numbers:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4G#4G_and_near-4G_systems

Seems like 3G+, or pre-4G systems are a magnitude slower than true 4G. Meaning 100 Mb / 50 Mb for the current crop, versus 1Gb / 500 Mb for true 4G.

Looks like marketing is really trumping the facts here. Nothing even comes close to the 3G+ speeds defined in the platform specification.

seriously macrumors guys. have you no sense of decency??

the man that was such you owe your whole business to and
was such a visionary dies and

you can even leave the remembrance post up on top for one day??

3G, 3.5G, 3.9G, 30G, whatever. I have AT&T, and I'm looking forward to just getting anywhere close to 14.4 Mbps download.

I don't think I've even hit 3 Mbps with my 3GS. I think I saw some of the best speeds outside of Chicago with my phone, something like 2 Mbps sustained (even with just 1-2 bars of signal strength).

I don't sit outside downloading tons of stuff over 3G. In fact, if you could use an iPhone without a data plan, everyone in my family would have one. So the whole 3G/4G argument is meaningless to me. I sometimes keep 3G disabled.
Long battery life is more important to me.

Ask Away

Hey All,

I've had Sprint for the last 7 years. Ask any questions you may have if you are curious about the network.

Also, if you want a specially priced plan (for new customers) you can go here:

Check the top right hand area under Special Sprint Offer.

^Wow i sound like a marketer haha.

I would be careful on the referral plans on sprint. A lot of time special phones aren't available on that deal. Wait before you sign up to check that you can get the 4s with that plan

Good note....i should've added that...sometimes they take a bit to add a new phone to the referral plan.

$110 a month for unlimited!! Am I the only one finding that extremely expensive?

I bought my iPhone 3Gs back in January 2010 at Tesco’s under a pay as you go deal (I’m not a big caller or texter and dislike monthly standing charges) and haven’t had to pay for data usage since, no matter how much I use. (International roaming excluded).

Wait, so you exclude international roaming? So if you traveled 150 miles in any direction you couldn't use your phone free like we can in the states? Man that must suck.

See why it's apples to oranges? If AT&T sold a phone plan that only covered CA, there would be riots. We pay more for a much more spacious usage area.

I just checked, the iphone 4 pre-order is already up...i'd expect the 4GS to be up there as well later.

Anyone else getting the run-a-round from Apple? I've contacted them twice today to inquire about preordering with them tonight and they both have told me they "don't know when the Sprint iPhone is coming" and "we know its coming soon, but we don't have specific information." One guy told me to check back tomorrow and see if preorders are available.

What's the deal? When I talked to Sprint yesterday they said I'd be able to preorder at the Apple site tonight no problem. And their site clearly states that it is coming out the 14th, but neither Apple rep would confirm that.

Weird.

oh sprint... I thought you were different. I was wrong

voice/data usage limitation: Sprint reserves the right, without notice, to limit throughput speeds, and to deny, terminate, modify, disconnect or suspend service if off-network usage in a month exceeds: (1) voice: 800 min. Or a majority of minutes; or (2) data: 300 megabytes or a majority of kilobytes. prohibited network use rules apply. See sprint.com/termsandconditions for specific prohibited uses. 1,024 kb equal 1 mb. 1,024 mb equal 1 gb.

off network usage...

When I click more information to order the iPhone 4s, it's showing only 8GB that can be ordered. I know we can't order til after midnight tonight but that's what is being shown at this time. Does that mean we will have to order it from Apple to get the bigger Storage???
John

You are looking at the iPhone 4 preorder page, not 4S. The 4S preorder won't be up till midnight PST.

Sorry sir, but Straight Talk is under TracFone...who has MIllions of Customers....they are not going anywhere....the most they will do is Disconnect Data Abusers (soft cap of 2 gigs), but this deal is not going anywhere.

Sorry, I probably wasn't clear. I don't mean that TracPhone would go under or anything, just decide to stop offering that service on that (unauthorized) device. Personally, at $45/month with a 2gb data cap I don't find it to be a great deal, considering the $1000 in hardware costs, but it's still nice to see people presenting other options!

I have this plan (the EPRP) and I can confirm Sprint is telling me I can get the iPhone and the upgrade store in my account is telling me I can order the iPhone 4 right now.

How often does a French person go to Germany or France or any other EU country? Probably not that often unless it's for business. The EU also passed a law this year limiting roaming charges in other countries. I'm sure for business people it's expensive, but for the average consumer, they have way cheaper pricing in Europe mainly because they have a truly market based system, not one based on monopolies like in the US.

Sprint is due to make a big announcement tomorrow about their long term plans. My guess is that Sprint will also unveil the iPhone at that time. You may be able to order at 12:01 am tomorrow, but you might not until later in the day. Don't worry, no deliveries until the 14th anyway.

I'm kinda confused at everyone crying about the $110 price point for unlimited when the increase in price only applies to LAND LINE minutes.

I used to pay $99(what would now be the $109 plan) for my sprint unlimited plan until I realized that I could be paying $69 for the exact same service, considering that I hardly ever call land lines. I even use my phone for business calls all day.

Unless you're in a unique situation where you are calling landlines constantly, I would think the $79 plan will be fine for almost everyone considering how many people only have cell phones these days. Remember that ALL price-points are unlimited data/text. So people mistakenly thinking that the $109 is unlimited data might be more OK with $79. Just a thought

AT&Tis the only one who let's you use data and voice at the same time.

Yes, assuming you have coverage to begin with. AT&T is the worst around -get this- buildings and metro areas.

Enjoy AT&T suburbia. Us city people will be moving away.

(LTE Advanced/IMT Advanced)
1Gb/500Mb is for fixed/stationary reception.
True 4G mobile is 100 Mb/50Mb. ;)

I was simply answering someone's question on if Sprint or Verizon does this. I will be moving from AT&T to Sprint. My bill will be cheaper, I will get more bang for my buck, I get unlimited data, and I get the new iPhone for practically nothing because I'll sell my current 32g iPhone 4.

This is correct. Verizon/Sprint can not support data and voice at the same time. So, you must pick one (or buy 2 iPhones!) :/QUOTE]

This is not correct.
There are several Android simultaneous voice and data (SVDO) phones on verizon. It requires hardware support in the handset. This is something that i can't find any info on regarding the iPhone 4S.

It's a built-in limitation of CDMA, my friend. Not gonna happen.

no it isn't a limitation of CDMA.
