My guess is that Sprint would keep their unlimited data option open for at least a while if they get the iPhone 5 but would switch to tiered data after a few months.

Can't wait to hear what those Sprint sales people say about the iPhone now. Went in there a few times with my girlfriend and those slimeballs tried to tell me that multiple smart phones from Sprint were better. Their lack of intelligence is why they work there, but still. They are total idiots. I'd never switch to Sprint for anything. This is a last ditch effort for them, they lose money each quarter.

i agree. they should have told you to go buy a cell phone somewhere else

Sprint Unlimited

Spring may be unlimited but it goes down to 2G speeds after two gigabytes of use each month.

It's not about the phone, it's about the approach. You can't tell me that these crummy moto's, LG's, samsungs are legitimate when the pop a new one out every few months. They're all junk. The thing they said was the best was some HUGE brick. Can't remember, but it was not even close to comparable to an iPhone. I even explained the cloud capabilities, itunes, my macs, mobileme and the idiots didn't get it. If you want me to switch and I like my iPhone, you'd have to sell me on services not hardware. But, they're lowly salespeople so whatever.

It's a junk carrier. Everyone knows that, look at their financials. Bleeding badly to say the least.

Mid October...late September...which is it going to be? These iPhone 5 rumors are all over the place

uhh... I wouldn't exactly say all over the place. It's got a pretty solid 2-3 week window narrowed down. Considering how I'm not 100% sold that even Apple has a rock solid drop dead release date yet, I think a 2-3 week window is good. I expect a media event within a month, we should get all the specifics then.

anyone know what this means for Wind Mobile and Moblicity in Canada?

I am sick of Robbers Wireless and their high plan prices.

I know Wind uses the same frequency as sprint/t-mobile so in theory should this dual-mode iphone work on their network?

Problem is, the entry price for an 8 GB iPhone 4 would be at least $350-400, as opposed to $150 or less for the low-end Android phones. I guess they could keep the 3GS around and perhaps offer that for ~$250, but I kind of doubt they'll do that in the US...

The cost of the phone is minimal vs. the cost of the plan.

So I get a 16gb iPhone X subsidized by AT&T (or Verizon) for $99. But then am forced to have a plan at ~$75 a month for 24 months. Total cost $1900!

I'd rather pay $400 (or less) for a unlocked iPhone X and then pay Virgin Mobile $35 a month for 24 months - total $1240!

I agree! People forget things (like facts):

1) They're rumors.
2) Apple hasn't been moving dates.
c) Apple hasn't even announced the iPhone 5 yet!

I wonder if Sprint's sudden rumbling on the LTE front are related to this. Last year, Verizon exec's said conversations with Apple regarding network technologies showed they were on the same page (I'm guessing he was hinting at LTE). It is obvious to me that Apple intends for LTE (not WiMAX) to be their 4G technology (in addition to the 3.5G stuff ATT is offering with HSPA+).

i wouldnt be surprised if it comes out mid october if the invite for the event isnt released next week. iOS5 isnt even in GM for devs and this usually happens way ahead

:confused::confused::confused:

You went to a store and expected the sales people to try and sell you a competitor's product?

Here in western Washington (state), Sprint's network seems to be limited to areas within visual range of Interstate 5 - so it's not a carrier most people bother considering.

But this is certainly good news for those folks who live where they have decent coverage (Northeast US maybe?).

While I don't like flat out lying, Sprint is a company trying to make a profit like any other company...Just imagine your livelihood depended on you selling sprint phones...whether or not your store profited means whether or not you pay the mortgage, feed the kids, etc....and just imagine that you knew the best phone (in this case the iPhone) wasn't in your store...when a customer comes in, are you going to tell them "iPhone is your best bet, don't buy one of our phones? Have a nice day!"...not very likely...Your goal is to sell products. Whether you're buying a car, a phone, a tv, or whatever, salespeople will tell you whatever possible to get the sale...it's unfortunate, but just as unfortunate is how many people make large purchases without ever really doing their research...

Now I personally hate the sleazy nature of sales...I have it on EXCELLENT authority that when the iPhone first hit Verizon, salespeople lied about iPhone stock (telling customers iPhones weren't in stock), and steered them towards Android devices because they got better commissions on those phones...

I have also been in stores where a salesperson will try to talk about why iPhones suck...or Apple sucks...etc...Personally, I think you're better off selling the strengths of your own devices, and trying to convince customers your device can do everything just as well as the iPhone...but that's just my personal take...

You're an idiot. I own an HTC EVO and it's the best phone I've ever owned, and even though it's a year old it's still running solid. If you've never owned something, don't comment on it.

Anyway, I'd be truly happy if Sprint gets the iPhone 5. This is the news I've been waiting for for a while now. This is going to make my next upgrade a difficult choice...an iPhone would be great company to my iPad 2.

I would miss the Wimax speed though...we'll see.
