I had Sprint from 2005 until 2010. Back then their network was top notch. Data service was fast (for the time) and reliable.

I wanted an iPhone so ended up switching to AT&T, but from what I heard, in the years after 2010, Sprint service started going downhill, getting slower and less usable. My friend who is still on Sprint complains about it regularly.

So yeah, Sprint was actually pretty damned awesome years ago, but they failed to upgrade and improve their network to handle growth, so it went to hell. I used to extoll the virtues of Sprint when I was a customer because it worked so well and they treated me right, but those days are over.

do you believe sprint have potential to go out of business?

No. Not now.

Sprint is owned by Softbank (80% stake). Masayoshi Son, the owner of Softbank is a guy who went into a Japanese government official's office and threatened to set himself on fire if the Japanese government did not give Softbank the spectrum license it wanted. The Japanese government caved.

Son invested billions into the merger with Sprint. He is not and will not allow Sprint to go under. That's why Dan Hesse was replaced with Marcelo Claure.

The problem for Sprint customers (and potential customers) is that what we see as a better Sprint is not necessarily what is a better Sprint for Son, Claure and Sprint's stockholders. Claure will save Sprint. He will stop the bleeding and leaving of customers. He will attract new customers and Sprint will turn around and make money for Masayoshi Son.

But THAT Sprint is unlikely to be the Sprint that you, I and everyone else will recognize right now. It's going to be a Sprint of an entirely different animal.

That may attract some customers who hate Sprint now and it may drive away customers who love Sprint now. We'll see what happens.

Just curious, how many of you switched from sprint to another company due to bad 3G/LTE speeds and constant dropped calls?

Also, how many of you with Sprint are lucky enough to live in a good coverage area by them and how satisfied are you with their coverage when traveling?

In my case, sprint's (fake) coverage map was showing that there was excellent LTE coverage, but I had to be lucky to even get 1-2 bars of LTE, and the max speed was 1.5 Mbps at most. Most of the time I would get stuck with a completely unusable 3g speed. Web pages would either not load at all or take at least 2 minutes for 1 simple page to load.

I've had Sprint for a year now. A year ago, service was spotty in ABQ, now that most towers are mostly upgraded in my area my service is awesome and I'd recommend it to anyone. Way cheaper and as good service as what I had with AT&T.

It's about time then. My understanding is that ABQ would have been done earlier, but Sprint engineers initially rejected all the tower work the vendors did as it was not up to spec. All the work had to be redone.

Centurylink tried to patch up the Sprint towers with copper, which would not have held up to the volume and would not have delivered great speeds. Sprint wanted fiber so they had to bring fiber to the towers. LTE is almost everyone in ABQ now and the speeds are usable (unlike last year). I can stream music without buffering all through town :)

That's good to hear. PHX, where I am is 59% LTE accepted. They started work in December 2012, so almost two years now.

Most of the towers out here are waiting on backhaul. But I'm still on slow LTE and crappy 3G. They are getting to the towers around me, but just not the towers I am connected to in the places I am at yet.

It's frustrating because I am now almost a month out of contract with a phone that was LTE capable two years ago.

EDIT: Re: Centurylink. Sounds about right. That company is even worse than Sprint when it comes to getting something done and customer service.

Yeah, Son has already brought over some of his Japanese managers and engineers (he has an office in Silicon Valley). He's said "to hell" with any communication barriers, he wants results. If that means putting those guys in rooms with Sprint managers and engineers and making it work that's what he's going to do.

He's already ripped the executive team up one side and down the other for it's "loser" mentality back in January. So, this is not a guy who is going to stand there and watch his billions slowly dissipate because Sprint can't get it's act together. We may not like what Son does, but he isn't doing it in the customer's best interest (although we may benefit from some of that).

Sprint iPhones have a lower resale value because they are locked to Sprint and cannot be used on any other US carrier. Just fyi. ;)

I understand that. I meant that they can be harder to sale than a locked AT&T phone because they aren't as popular. I have sold Sprint phones as well as locked AT&T phones and in all occasions I received emails for they AT&T phone immediately while the Sprint would sit there awhile. I have never bothered unlocking a phone before I sold it.

hopefully sprint get their act together.

I've been with sprint since '99. I recently upgraded from a 4s to the 6, and returned it the next day. LTE's network support just wasn't there where I needed it. For instance, on MetroNorth, there should be good coverage because it's a highly-trafficked route used by business-people. Sprint has plenty of locations on that route that have spotty coverage, or 1x coverage, and certainly no LTE coverage.

My Sprint data usage has been about 1.5gb per month, but I'm switching to Verizon whenever phones are back in stock. I have no idea how to estimate the data usage I'll need because I don't know what I've been missing. But it's time I have a network to support the device I'm carrying, and Sprint no longer cuts it for the areas I frequent.

I have Sprint. No real complaints. My data works decent enough. Its not as fast as Verizon or ATT but I also spend a ton less.

To each his own - Sprint offers 100% money back for first thirty days. Try them out see if you like them - Move on if you don't. I always recommend this method.

My 30 days ended sometime in mid 1999. Sprint won't give me my money back. :p

:)

The nice thing is you get a new 30 days when you get a new device/renew your plan to back-out of that renewal. And 72 hours to back out completely without losing the restocking / account upgrade fee.

I can possibly see your data usage go up three times what you were using before now that you actually have usable data.

I don't necessarily think LTE has caused me to use more data with AT&T compared to before with 3G but when you are coming from slower data speeds or a lesser coverage area it's certainly possible

Odd change on Sprints site today. They removed the Unlimited, My Way Plan when attempting to purchase a phone with a 2 year agreement for new customers. You now get stuck with the $60 Unlimited Plan with a $25 fee (because you're going with a 2 year agreement) making it $85 a month, compared to $80 for the Unlimited, My Way with unlimited data.

Wrong. http://www.sprint.com/landings/returns/

They brought it back only to end it a month or so after it started. It was only a trial period, just like every other offer they have.

As of now, it is only 14 days for everyone. Restocking fees should be waived when canceling service. Can't speak for their customer service since they deal with that. Your monthly fees will still apply and will not be reimbursed or waived.

Not so odd. Sprint has always removed the older plans and promoted the newer plans that were designed to replace them.

Sprint has made no mention of discontinuing the older plans though. However, they may be on borrowed time. Sprint removed the old ED plans when it was the All In and MyWay plan's turn but you could still get an ED plan then if you knew how to look.

Sprint will probably quietly kill them some time soon though. The ED plans lasted about 2-3 months after they removed them from the site.

Thing is, I work for Sprint and there was no mention of them removing it from the site lol. These plans were the only options when going with a 2 year agreement, whereas the $60 Unlimited Plan was the no contract plan option which is now forced on people that don't need data for basic feature phones, or limited data of 1GB. The $60 Unlimited Plan isn't supposed to be a direct replacement for those plans since it was originally a no contract plan (though they'd charge you $25 if you somehow managed to get a 2 year agreement on that plan by mistake.)

I assume they can still be selected in store or over the phone, just online it's not an option.

Hmm…interesting. Nothing mentioned in the playbook then? I just assumed they'd have told you guys something.

But then, and no offense, it's Sprint so despite being a communications company they don't always communicate.

Nope nothing yet about this. It's just like the $50 Simply Unlimited Plan and accidentally launched it on the website later in the evening and we had no information on it at all until the following day, yet we had people coming in asking about it.
Sprint's always been terrible at relaying information. As sales person for them, it kind of makes it impossible to recommend something to someone that is randomly just removed without reason and making myself look bad. Even worse is now it's $5 more than what we previously offered with the Unlimited, My Way plan.

Sprint unlimited is like all the beer you can drink but you have to drink it through a coffee straw.

Depends on your area, if you're lucky enough to have Spark or LTE in general, it can be pretty amazing. Areas with 3G only like where I live, yeah it's not worth it at all.

Ouch. Yeah, see this is the problem I have with Sprint a lot. One hand never seems to know what the other is doing. Management certainly never does you guys any favors and it's you guys that are the face of the company.

I don't envy you your job, especially with some of the customers I've seen in the stores!

Pretty much. It's definitely been a struggle as of late dealing with all of the non-stop nonsense that has been happening. I guess you can say I'm just over it all lol. Definitely need something else to do besides this.
