So basically I would not benefit at all by moving to one of the new plans if I have an everything data 450 plan?

I only use like 5 min. of airtime a month

As a former employee, (left a month ago) I was kind of worried about how they worded the new plans. They made sure to say guaranteed for life, so it's clear to me that tiered data is coming very soon. As a matter of fact, with the new my way plans you can opt for 1GB of data for an additional $20 or unlimited for $30 so there's already a slight tier there

No, you would not benefit. You would pay more. If you have more lines the new plans are cheaper because the cost for each additional line is cheaper than the one before it. But the ED plans are cheaper for less lines.

If you are on an ED plan you've got Anytime Minutes, free Nights and Weekends and free Mobile to Mobile. We have 1500 minutes and we barely scratch that. So paying more for "unlimited" minutes when you are barely using any is insane.

OTOH as mentioned, there is no guarantee that the ED plans stay unlimited. However, there was never a guarantee that Sprint would keep the old Fair and Flexible plans either. Just keep an eye on it. Sooner or later we all will probably have to just to the My Way and All In plans because we'll be forced there if we want to keep unlimited. But why pay now when they aren't forcing us yet. You can still upgrade to the new plans after 10/11.

Isn't that something of a marketing trick though? I was hearing rumors that Sprint was emphasizing the "guarantee" to attract customers from other carriers who were worried about losing unlimited data.

The thinking being that offering those customers a "guarantee" would be more likely to attract them to Sprint because they don't have a guarantee from their current carrier.

I'm seriously thinking about leaving Sprint when my contract is up at the end of the month. Can anyone recommend a good carrier from experience? I have only ever had Sprint and Virgin Mobile, which uses the Sprint towers last I was aware. Verizon puts me off with the 2GB data cap but I am open to any suggestions.

If you need a lot of data and/or talk very little, I recommend T-Mobile. For years, I thought I couldn't find a bigger bargain than what I was getting with Sprint SERO. Then TMO came out with a $30 prepaid plan that's 5 GB of LTE, HSPA or HSPA+ (depending on what's available in your market), unlimited SMS and 100 minutes. So I switched in February, partly because I would save about $25/month and partly because Sprint's 3G speeds had dropped to 130 kbps, with no sign of LTE any time soon in my market. No regrets.

TMO is worth considering if you spend most of your time in an urban or suburban area because that's where it has HSPA, HSPA+ or LTE. Outside of that, you'll probably get EDGE or GPRS, based on my experience. Also, TMO's in-building coverage isn't as good as Sprint's. On the flip side, TMO's HSPA is much faster than Sprint's EV-DO Rev. A, at least in the markets where I live and travel. TMO doesn't have HSPA+ or LTE in my market yet, but HSPA is plenty fast for my needs (e.g., email, browsing, Twitter, Evernote).

To see if TMO fits your needs coverage-wise, I recommend asking your friends and family if any of them have TMO. If so, ask them to bring their phone to your home and the other major places you want to use it. Another option is to buy the iPhone or whatever you want, get the TMO prepaid SIM -- sometimes as low as 99 cents when there's a promo -- and live with it for 30 days.

I hope that helps. Good luck.
