I don't know why this is a "bad" thing. 23GB on mobile is A LOT. I have a 4 GB plan and I rarely go overboard. With free wifi so widespread across the US, hell, there are places where even buses have free wifi, I don't know who would use more than 23GB.

no one promises any downloading/uploading speed. They promise unlimited data amount, and they keep that promise. Yes it is 100% unlimited, period :)
Even if that's the case, when it says UNLIMITED in giant type and you have to read the fine print of the contract to discover what that means, that's BS.

Do you sign a life insurance, or any insurance for that matter, just based on their promises in giant type without reading the small print, too?

It would matter what they advertised two years ago since it would be a material change to existing contracts.

And that would allow people with a way out of their contracts or a valid argument, so that wouldn't be a problem. (Occasionally, on SlickDeals you'll see a mention of a contract change so if you want out of a plan, that would be the time to do it).

BUT if you read the post you'd see that it said -
The change will affect those who choose an unlimited data handset plan after October 16 or to Sprint customers who choose to upgrade their devices on or after October 16.

So the ads from the past really don't matter...

These companies should be fined or sued or both for continually lying about what customers are really getting. Just about every one of these guys has been caught lying with regard to "unlimited" plans. If it's not 100% unlimited, you shouldn't be allowed to call it that, period.

I whole heartedly agree 100% with what you say, and I have a grandfathered unlimited plan so I had been belly aching a LOT about this. However, when I first got the unlimited plan, I was still using a Nokia E51! So it was rare for me to even get 5 MB! But at the time, the choice was 200 texts for 100 MB (or something like that, it was a long time ago), or 1000 texts and 10 MB. There was no happy medium. When they offered unlimited for both, I took it and now with smart phones capable of downloading a tremendous amount of data, I see where they are coming from.........but it is still inexcusable to still call it unlimited when it clearly isn't. Just saying playing devil's advocate, I can see why they want to eliminate it, but since I pay for unlimited I should be able to download 5 TB a month if I so desire.

It is even worse the fact they want to charge twice for the same thing, tethering upcharge is BS....though so is triple play with most ISPs... you get to pay three times for all the same thing! Yay!

I would be very surprised if AT&T every decided to take away my grandfathered unlimited in the middle of a contract. I could see them raise the price when my contract changes or take it away when the contract changes, I'd double they'd do it in the middle (knowing I could get out of my contract).

Unlimited is unlimited, the companies have lied to get customers signed up. If the telcos didn't have the ability then unlimited should not have been offered. It's not abuse by clients.

Become some are not interested in your use but their own.

This thread is moot, if it does not apply to customers with unlimited before 10/16/2015. Notice is given after that point. It is scummy to use words like Unlimited and then have fine print that adds conditions. BUT, this is the state of contracts in America...or perhaps the world. If you get a medical plan that has a zero deductible, you best check to see what is excluded. The title wont read: "Zero Deductible Medical plan, excludes......"

I disagree on this, I'd guess your data plan says you won't tether and that's your agreement, if you don't like that then don't agree to it (or use a different plan/carrier).

They determined that data price based on how much the average phone users use, if everyone starts tethering and uses more of the data in the tier that they are in, they will raise the prices since it's going to cost more (they're just raising it on on people who tether since everyone isn't doing it).

Skype sells unlimited calling for $30 a year (or something close) but they know no one uses it for 43,200 minutes (30days*24hours*60minutes) a month, although you could but the deal is these minutes are for you (not other people in the household or your business). They know the average person uses it for 300 minutes a month (I'm making this number up) but everyone started using it 1,000 a month, they'd raise their rates (even though it's unlimited they base their rates on what they hey think people will use). Just because you know you've got 43,200 minutes to use doesn't mean you can use it for your business, that's not the deal (the contract).

If you can actually use more than 23GB on that network you deserve a trophy not to be throttled.

So true. Made that mistake once, it's like sucking data through a straw. You literally cannot use your phone, it is like a brick. Mine was anyway.

Me chill?!? I'm just the guy making a point about the guy making a point.

(I just decided to quote you since you were more recent than the other guy,
I'm not sure the point of pulling old ads when you could pull current marketing...)

Gary

chill as in, don't take it seriously.

Why don't they just upgrade the infrastructure ? Why do we have to stick to low limited numbers? People are streaming HD video and 4K is coming. There are 1GB app updates on iOS.

I get internet through an LTE router. My LTE router is limited 200GB+ per month, but my iPhone, which gets internet through LTE too is limited to 7GB. If you want to increase that it will by an astronomical price.

Different products. Different plans. Different market.

My toaster can get LTE plus but is limited to 1kb/month before it melts.

I feel like the Sprint network is so slow, you could actively download a file 24/7 for the entire month, non-stop, and still not reach that cap. lol

Alright. I called up Sprint and asked about this. The girl didn't know what I was talking about but said when a customer is throttled it's to 2G speeds. Meaning >1Mbps.

Meh. That's what I get ok AT&T 4G at work.
