I'm trying to use this at the order summary page where you enter the code, nothing happens when I click "Apply Coupon".

Anybody having any luck?

Just used that coupon 'JULY04' a couple of minutes ago... worked instantly. I used it to insure my 16gb 3GS. Brought the price down to $84 :D

Since everyone is upgrading yearly these days, why bother? Just self-insure by putting $75 in the bank for the cost of new screen using one of the online screen replacement places and don't take your iPhone out when on the toilet.

Just got off the phone with Squaretrade. Apparently the JULY04 coupon expired an hour ago. The conversation we had was interesting for two reasons.

I asked him if the warranty covers the unsubsidized price of $599 for the 16gb 3GS. He said that I can get that coverage if I order it in a different way on the website. He directed me to select get a quote, then miscellaneous instead of iphone. Next he stated to select other electronics. Below that I was directed to enter the unsubsidized price, and then to select new. On the next page which lists the actual quote, he told me to select accidental coverage for an additional $30.00. It came up to $104.00. I added the JULY04 coupon, and it mysteriously worked. lol. It lowered the overall price to $83.99! The customer service rep stated that as long as I had a receipt from Apple or AT&T that reflected the unsubsidized price for the 3gs, then I should have no problems. I think I'll pull the trigger tomorrow after I call AT&T and Apple to see if I can get that receipt, since neither website lists the unsubsidized price.

Just thinking here...wouldn't it be possible to buy the protection from squaretrade AFTER the phone breaks, drops, whatever? Then wait a few days and send it in? Do they have some way to protect against this?

Must get it within 30 days of your purchase.

My question regarding SquareTrade is that I bought a warranty from them for the iPhone 3G, but it's listed as "Apple Cell Phone" not "Apple iPhone 3G" and they never requested the serial number or anything for the phone. Now I have the 3GS. If something happened to the 3GS and I had to send it in to Apple, would SquareTrade know the difference?

That would be great if they covered the unsubsidized price. I looked under miscellaneous electronics for $699 (32gb version) and added ADH and the price came out to $114.99. Thats great. Also it is for 3 Years of coverage. Great. But I am scouring there terms to see if Apple products are excluded.

Forgot about the july04 coupon (20% off now) gets you to $91

Since they have a specific iphone program i would be careful with trying to order a policy that isn't specific.

how did you all get state farm to insure the unsubsidized price? My invoice for apple says $499 for the 32gb. The agent said that they need an actual invoice stating the unsubsidized price and neither apple or at&t can get me that.

Seems they have changed their terms a bit. On my original 3G I was able to insure it up to the actual replacement value (less $50 deductible) for under $100 including coupons.

Recently things seem to have changed a bit and I'm wondering if the $199 "swap out" charge by Apple (water damage or broken screen) is a better value.

#1) They clearly state the (for example) 32GIG will be covered for a MAXIMUM VALUE of $499. This leaves you "in the hole" for over $420 should it need to be replaced under their "warranty." Since you don't have a phone to swap you will be charged the full "no contract" price for the iPhone replacement. So their $499 MINUS $50 deductible will pay you only $450 for a phone that will cost $699 + $42 (figuring avg 6%)TAX.

So here is my estimate of what you will pay out for a $699+Tax replacement under their contract for a 32Gig 3GS:

$120 cost for the Square trade warranty INCLUDING their 20% "discount" (you pay 2yrs up front and if you lose/reinsure the new phone it's ANOTHER $120)
$ 50 Square Trade deductible
$742 (figuring 6% tax) for the 32GB phone no contract w/no ATT discount
$912 YOU HAVE TO PAY OUT to get back to where you started

-$450 from Squaretrade for their service contract ($499 - $50 deductible but NO sales tax for your $699+sales tax repurchase assuming 32gig model)

$462 OUT OF POCKET net you have to PAY Apple/ATT to replace phone (with no discount because your upgrade time isn't here yet).

Sounds like a crappy deal to me. If I could "warranty" it for the full replacement value it wouldn't be so bad but on a 32GIG 3GS they are paying out $250 LESS ($499-$50 ded not even counting sales tax) then what it probably will cost you to replace it.

So it seems you're a lot better off paying Apple the $199 for a replacement.

Squaretrade is a great company, I highly recommend them. Last weekend I dropped my iPhone in water on accident which was a Sunday. I went online and started a claim that day. Monday, a rep called me to discuss what happened and he emailed me a UPS shipping label. I printed the label, placed it on a box and packed up my broken iPhone and shipped it off late Tuesday afternoon. On Thursday I get an email saying my claim has been approved and they are going to Paypal me $499.99.

Very quick process, friendly rep (I assumed I was going to get scolded since I had a claim so close to when the 3GS came out, even though I'll never go back to AT&T again in my life so no iPhone for me).

I talked to the rep a little more and it sounds like liquid damage is replaced without attempting repair. He said things like broken screens a lot of times they can repair and overnight the phone back to you with no problems so they do decide if they are going to repair or replace. They never replace with another iPhone, they just send you a check so you can spend the money however you want.

If you were going to replace the phone it would have cost you $700 + tax plus the cost of the insurance you JUST paid. Wasn't there also a $50 deductible as stated on their website for "accidental damages."

Since you just got it, what about your 2year AT&T contract? They are going to charge you $175 ETF plus they are going to want the phone back if it has been less then 30 days or they will charge you full price ($699) for it.

Yeah SquareTrade isn't a great deal if you want full replacement, but if Apple won't replace it for $200, and SquareTrade is willing to cut you a check for $400 - $100 for warranty - $50 deductible, you still are up $250 instead of being out the entire value of the device. If you break your device without SquareTrade you get $0. With SquareTrade you net $250.

Just spoke with "Squaretrade." They will not honor their own JULY04 30% off coupon on the iPhone. 20% off (which is their so-called advertised "sale") is all you get. Makes it even less worthwhile.

So much for their spam advertising 30% off ANY NON-EBAY PURCHASE with no listed exceptions that I can see in my email. Doesn't sound so "Square" to me. It almost sounds like false advertising.

When are most people able to "Early Upgrade".

Squaretrade seems like a decent deal if you can make it to the "Early Upgrade" point in your contract. True you will have to sign another 2 year contract, but until the IPhone moves to another carrier you have to stick to At&t.

The coupon I saw expired on June 23 as far as the 30% went, but was good for 20% off through July 5.

I just spoke to 2 different people at Square Trade about full replacement coverage on a 32g. I was told by both people that it will cost $103.99 for 2 yrs w/accidental coverage included. Both reps told me to call Monday and speak to claims if i still have any concerns. I will be calling Monday for sure.

If they support what ive been told then its a great deal as far as im concerned. It will cost $104 for 2 yrs coverage and ill recieve $650 after deductible if a replacement is needed.

So ill pay $100 difference for the phone w/tax and the cost of the plan of $104 . A grand total of $204 . Whats the problem ?

Works for me ;)

I don't t think they are correct. How can it be $104 for full coverage when the site shows $115 for partial coverage for the 32gb unit. Even with a 30% discount the partial coverage is still around $100.

Also, this is the fine print from the site: "Note that SquareTrade covers your phone based on the “early upgrade” pricing. If your carrier requires you to pay the full No Contract/No commitment price, you will be responsible for the difference if you decide to purchase a new iPhone."

Regardless of what they tell you, make sure you get it in writing. The site clearly shows what i pasted above. If you can get it in writing that they cover full replacement value let us know. Thanks.
