But you can't buy an iPhone through Amazon. That's the issue. Why are they selling iPhone warranties and stating that they can only be used on Amazon-purchased iPhones when you CAN'T buy an iPhone from Amazon?

That's what I was telling Squaretrade. Believe me, I want the $50 deductible also. I even told them that the warranty was being sold by Squaretrade and not Amazon. Squaretrade said that they'll ask for a receipt and when they notice that it wasn't sold by Amazon, they'll deny the warranty. This is what I was told, and I'm just passing it along to help people on the forum. Wouldn't want anyone to get denied coverage after they break their iPhone.

SquareTrade $50 deductible

Evening if the ST warranty Is $75 it's still a better deal then apple.

It's only better if you keep breaking just the screen. If you drop it in water your coverage ends with ST after they replace/reimburse one time. With Apple you can get two full replacements so it can potential be better for some.

I just spoke with someone at squaretrade and was told the same thing that Jun was. I still ended up going with squaretrade being that the nearest apple store is over 2 hours away and I was able to get a 40% off code from the rep. 84 bucks for a 2 year plan isn't bad at all.

From what I read, ST will cover the iPhone 6 up to $999.99 in repairs. Considering Apple charges $299 for out of warranty repairs, and ST allows me to take it to them to get it fixed, wouldn't I be covered if I damage my phone 3 times? Yes, I'll have to pay Apple at first, but ST will reimburse me.

I could be wrong, but this is how I was interpreting it. I've never had to file a ST iPhone repair claim. Would someone care to chime in?

Edit: Some users on this forum were saying that ST allows up to 4 replacements and/or repairs. Furthermore, if you get it repaired at an Apple Store, ST will wave the deductible.

I had problem with iPhone 5. Covered by at warranty. Filed at claim with st. Went to Apple Store. Paid to get refurb. Emailed receipt to st and got reimbursed same day.

I think they cover up to your purchase price (full price) of the phone. I wonder if you are right about them allowing couple $299 reimbursements.

Did they close out your coverage or did it transfer over to the refurb unit?

SquareTrade also says you can only buy their warranty at Amazon's discount if you bought the product there which for the iPhone can't happen so not sure why they're even selling it there. I'd call and make sure you're actually going to be able to file a claim if you need to.

Agreed... I would check in this because I tried to buy from amazon once and ST said they wouldn't honor the policy.

Your link didn't work, but I really have doubts about ST waiving deductible when you take it to Apple since Apple usually charges more to fix. Also it could've been 4 replacements before because Apple used to replace the entire unit when you broke the LCD instead of fixing it on the spot like they do now. So if someone broke the LCD 4x they could've replaced it 4x with ST since Apple only charged for the LCD price and not OOW price. I guess only ST can tell us for sure.

Below are some quotes from the thread.

If you take it yourself to apple so they can replace it, they won't charge you the deductible. You pay 199.99 for new one and squaretrade will reimburse you quickly. Done this twice.

I just signed up for square trade over the phone, and the CSR lady verified that if you get your phone repaired at the Genius Bar, they will reimburse you for the full amount with no deductible. It be nice if they had that policy in writing somewhere, but I asked her twice and she verified it.

Also, if you order over the phone you can tell them you have a 40% off coupon code and they will apply it without checking.

I just looked at the 462 ratings that average 4.9 out of 5. On the surface that's amazing but then I did a sort by Most Recent. In all of 2014 there have been 15 reviews, 8 of them 5*, 7 of them 1*. Wow.

Fine. Whatever. I'm getting AppleCare+.

I just received a call from the resolutions team at SquareTrade. I got escalated to them yesterday and was prompted to leave a voicemail.

The guy that I talked to tried to give me a fluff answer. He was really nice, but it was a fluff answer. Haha. It was the same fluff answer that the rest of the reps gave me, it didn't actually answer my questions, and didn't even make much sense. He even tried to say that the iPhone warranty was applicable to other smartphones such as the Galaxy S3. I called him on it. I said SquareTrade has iPhone-specific policies and a separate policy for smartphones. That's made very clear on the website.

In the time it took for me to counter his responses, he seemed to have pulled up the Amazon listing. His tune changed completely. He acknowledged that the listing shouldn't be on Amazon and that it was their goof up. He apologized for the confusion and thanked me for bringing it to their attention. I recommended that they take the listing down completely so as to avoid further confusion. Amazon doesn't sell iPhones and, therefore, Amazon shouldn't be selling SquareTrade iPhone-only policies.

He told me that not only was he going to honor the $50 deductible, he was also going to waive my first deductible. He made the changes to my account and I just got the confirmation e-mail. It may have taken a day or so, but SquareTrade made the right move. I think this was one of those things that was beyond the canned-response-only reps and had to be handled at a higher level. I'm happy. We'll see how a claim transaction goes if I ever need it!

At least they made it right.

I got a private response to a question posted on Amazon and it was the nail in the ST coffin. Will get AC this weekend. (I have to not drop it for 48 hours!)

The coverage continues on the replacement unit.

What are the downsides to squaretrade? There must be something, otherwise no one would buy applecare.

Convenience, really. With square trade it seems you have to get the phone repaired or replaced through Apple, pay out of packet, and file the claim with them. Presumably they deduct the $50 from payout. Either that or they make you pay them $50 deductible and they send you the entire payout.

Being that this is just insurance and the upfront cost is the same, AC+ is far more convenient, IMO. The $50 deductible seems to only be a special Amazon offer right now (based on what I read here), so the only way the standard offer is better is you get four claims versus two. I would say the claims versus convenience factor is a pretty fair trade-off, so AC isn't rendered strictly better.

----------

How this work with next if our purchase price is only about 30-40?

It's just a repair/replacement cost of the phone. Has nothing to do with installments. Your phone, on next, is whatever the MSRP on the device was at signup, though that is irrelevant.

Say you crack your screen. Screen repair is $109 for the 6. Squaretrade reimburses you the repair fees when you file the claim. You are responsible for $50 of that (deductible through Amazon's current deal)

Can you elaborate? I am confused lol.

I'm still unsure about that Amazon listing. According to what the earlier poster was saying, it sounded like a mistake, but it's still there for purchase.

Just wanted to throw in my thoughts on Squaretrade and pricing. I bought my 6 plus on AT&T Next 12 so I will more then likely be getting the next iPhone when it comes out. This said, I really didn't need a 2 year warranty because I'll maybe have the phone 13 months. I went with Squaretrade's $5.00/mo plan with the 75 dollar deductible because after 12-13 months I'm looking at 70 bucks or less for the coverage and a $75.00 deductible if I use it. I can cancel the plan when I trade in the phone and do a new plan when I get a new phone.

Now a little background history on me, I (knock on wood) have never cracked a screen or fubar'd my phones before but with the 300 bucks or so Apple is charging for some replacement issues, "better safe then sorry" seemed like a better plan then "be careful" lol. Hopefully I won't have to use the Squaretrade warranty but for anyone giving it a look, think about how long you're going to keep the phone because if you upgrade every year like me it may be a better value.

Just my thoughts

You're either guaranteed to lose $150 or risking losing $300. Some rest easier with the former, others the latter.

I just called SquareTrade

The rep. told me that the $50 deductible was real and the contract would be the same as the one purchased through ST with the $75 deductible. That it was a benefit they offered their resellers. Sounded good. I still haven't decided what to do as I just got my 6 Plus yesterday later PM, but the water damage limit which a poster pointed out - makes me hesitant. I have had every other iPhone starting with the first and have never had to make a claim - but hey - insurance is for peace of mind and there is always a first time. Right now, I'm treating it with kid gloves and it's in an Apple Silicone case which I really like and if something horrible happens, I think AmEx will cover me. I also bought my iPhone under AT&T's next plan but I still think the two year coverage is a better deal and the pro-rated portion is transferable to a new contract when you/I upgrade.
