I dropped my iPad and sent it in for repairs. This is how they returned it to me. They sanded down all four corners and bent the crap out of the aluminum lip on the iPads face in replacing the screen. All the other dings on the back from having dropped It ate still there also. Disappointed to say the least. I had heard good things about SquareTrade which is why I bought my warranty from them.

You can do better than that. Looking at the first picture indicates that it is NOT an iPad 1

I thought that too, and I'm pretty sure it's a 2. But looking at the other pictures, it has that more blockish look of the iPad 1. But that's probably the damage.

Crappy job for sure, however you didn't have to send it back to them. You could have had a replacement immediately from Apple because per their terms if the screen broke you could have just brought it to an Apple store, paid the $250 (if it's an iPad 2) for the out of warranty replacement and received a device that looks like new and ST would have reimbursed you.

It may sound like I am defending ST, I'm not, and frankly would never buy any such insurance. However I don't believe "repair" means fixing the scratches, "repair" means making it operational again (by replacing the screen). Their policy does not cover scratches because scratches would be considered wear and tear despite how you get them.

You should have just brought it to Apple and had them swap it for the $250 and got reimbursed by ST unless of course you were just looking for a check so you could buy a New iPad 3 and if that was the case you should have made sure it was unrepairable before sending it to them. ;)

Wow, that is absolutely crappy. Does their warranty talk about letting a 10 year old repair the damage?

Looks like you get what you pay for.

No doubt Apple does it better.

Sometimes just getting it to work again just isnt enough.

    Plus 1 AppleCare+

Don't let them get away with that.
Call them up and tell them that this is not going to work.

Apple would have just swapped it out on the spot. Squaretrade's edge is pretty much gone now that Apple covers a few incidents of accidental damage.

Actually a "couple" (2) not a few (3+). :) For that alone Apple+ is much better. If ST needs to fully reimburse you due to accidental damage their policy is done and you would have to buy it again for the replacement unit PLUS ST does not reimburse you for sales tax you paid and you will pay again to replace it yourself. With Apple+ you just pay the $49 + tax and get a replacements.

The DOWNSIDE to Apple's plan is all you get is the same model, with ST you get cash to buy whatever you want if it is totaled.

ST probably gets a lot of claims around the new release time.

Another little known thing about Squaretrade: if you request it, you CAN take a broken iDevice to an Apple store, get it repaired/replaced by them, and then Send in your repair documentation and receipts to SquareTrade to get reimbursed for the costs. You'll have to shell out repair costs up front, but at least you get Apple fixing or replacing your iPad, instead of whoever bid the cheapest amount to fix it for SquareTrade (and results like the OP's).

that said, I used to go with Squaretrade for warranties, but now that AppleCare+ is around, I'm going with that instead. It jsut makes more sense.

Wow. That is really awful. I've only ever had to use them once. They just had me send the phone back to Apple and they reimbursed me.

I'm definitely going to do Applecare+ now.

What does your Square Trade Warranty say?

I bet they are within their rules that it be repaired or replaced at THEIR DISCRETION!

Before you get mad LOOK at what your contract with Square Trade covers!

    ----------

What if Square Trade did what was specified in the warranty contract. It may not matter if YOU are happy. GOT to read the contract!

I am just curious, whats the appeal to go with Squaretrade as opposed to Applecare+? Its 10 dollars more up front than Squaretrade and much better piece of mind.

I couldn't disagree with you more. The cost of the ST warranty is not much cheaper than AC+. For whatever reason they went with ST. I don't think this is a matter of getting what you pay for.

I suppose getting the cash rather than the device itself is still an advantage but as you say -- only if its around the period of a new release. Why do I have this feeling it would be a pain to actually realize that benefit?

That being said, I'd still get Squaretrade if I were buying a non-Apple tablet since other manufacturers warranties suck.

AppleCare+ has been available for the iPad for a few weeks. Maybe the OP bought their iPad before then?
