Like I said, I don't have specific details of the other policies' limitations, but I highly doubt there's no limit to "accidental" coverage. SquareTrade limits your coverage to the maximum value of the device, so even though they don't limit the number of occurrences expressly, they will only repair/replace to a maximum value of $499 for a $499 device.

I'm pretty sure Worth has similar limits.

And more than 2 incidences of accidental breakage in 2 years is a lot. If you have kids who are prone to mishandling $500 devices then it's hard to call it an "accident" if you keep letting them use it unsupervised after 2 "accidents".

I just talked to Worth to go over my policy and there IS NOT a set number of accidental replacements. They only thing is that you can't have numerous replacements in a very short time. (ie Your iPad is stolen 4 times in 1 month.) So while it may be 50 a year, I have relief knowing I can drop it and have it replaced as many times as I want. I'd hate to accidentally drop my iPad with AC+ once and know that I have only one more accident during my 2 years. I'm not a very clumsy person, but crap happens.

Like I posted above, SquareTrade has no set limit on occurrences but that ends up being limited by total value of claims, so I'd double check to see if there are any limitations at all. I seriously doubt Worth has no limits whatsoever.

Nope, checked my policy. There aren't any limits. Like I said above, while there's no limits, Worth would be suspicious if it kept happening over and over again. Either way, I'm glad I went with them over AC+. A 2 accidental limit doesn't sit right with me and the fact that mine is covered from theft, vandalism, fire, flood and natural disasters makes me feel better. AC+ is just extending your warranty while throwing in 2 accidental replacements.

I went with SquareTrade for my moms new iPad $109 for three years coverage. Is it correct that I can have it serviced at the Genius Bar and then have SquareTrade refund the repair cost?

You're asking here rather than checking the terms of a policy you paid for? Yes, they allow you to get a repair at a Genius bar and then apply for a refund. As per the above discussion, their maximum liability is the retail cost of your iPad, so, for example if you have a $499 iPad, then you can have as many repairs as are necessary beyond the initial Apple warranty period as long as the repairs don't exceed $499 (you eat the cost over that).

I read through the service agreement and could not find anything relating to this that's why I asked. Could someone point out where this is stated in the term? I would like to know for future reference.

I did find where that information is stated, on the iPad warranty landing page. That's the only page this info is stated, it's not part of the contract or terms of service. (It's the link that says "Learn More about how coverage works")

So far from the looks of it I payed $9 more over AppleCare+ and I will be getting 1 year of additional coverage for accidental damage (3 years total) but for manufacturer defects I will only have 1 year from Apple and that's it. I lose out on the 2nd year that AppleCare+ provides for manufacturer defects.

It's mostly the same and since I'll be able to have it serviced at Apple in case of accidental damage I should be ok.

Not exactly.

Yes you have the extra year, but if you use up the coverage amount you have nothing. Also there is $50 deductible FOR ALL service requests and that amount goes against your total coverage. You can count on each in warranty replacement to equal $299+the $50 deductible. From there you can do the math to determine what you'll have left (or what 1 / 2 replacements will do to the warranty).

With Applecare+ you are covered for 2 replacements (each one is only a $50 deductible) and all of the other service needed as often as its needed within the warranty time period (2 years). There is no deductible for regular service work.

That's what I mean. I have three years total so if it breaks in year three I can still get a replacement as long as I still have value in the coverage. I do lose the second year for normal replacements of manufacturer defects as you stated. I did not know however that the amount of the deductible counts against the coverage amount, good to know.

I am just curious....why do you think the Squaretrade warranty is better?

I don't think it's better. I would have gotten AppleCare+ but I didn't get it at purchase (pre-order) and when I went to try to get it at the AppleStore I was 1 day too late and could't get it anymore.

You have 30 days from purchase, and can call Applecare directly and buy over the phone.

Squaretrade, in my opinion, is not a good purchasein this case.

Yeah you have 30 days from date of purchase and in the case of preorders this turns out to be the date it ships since that's when your payment is processed. I thought it would have been 30 days from launch date the 16th but I was out of luck.

Seriously, the total amount of disinformation out there is staggering.

Its 30 days from delivery on a pre-order.

Lol, I wish it was. I tried at my local Apple Store they said the computer wouldnt let them. I explained to them that I had preordered it and they said it was from the date of invoice. I tried calling Apple Care line and they also said it was too late and I could no longer purchase it.

The timer cannot start before the product even exists. The clock could not start earlier that 3/14 and this is the point you need to make with Apple corporate.

You are not covering a product not in your possesion. In general. "From Purchase" is the day you bought it if you at a store, and delivery date when ordering.

For example, if Apple was back ordered for 3 to 5 weeks would you be excluded from an Applecare+ post sale purchase?

It's not "2 repairs" for Applecare+, it's 2 repair/replacements for accidental damage. There's no limit to repairs for defects in manufacture. As for the other insurers, I doubt they're "unlimited" for accidental damage. Most people don't incur such damage ever. For someone to have "accidents" more than twice in 2 years, they're at the outer fringes of the bell curve.

Well, that may be true, but for all intents and purposes you are limited to 2 repairs since the chances of an iPad having a problem because of defects in manufacture are pretty remote.

That's a fairly ridiculous way of looking at it. By that logic you could argue that under Squaretrade you only have one repair because if they replace the iPad for damage you have no further rights under their policy.

I just received a call from Apple Executive Relations because I had emailed Tim Cook about my disappointment on not being able to get AppleCare+ since they base it on ship/invoice date. While I thought it would have based on release date as you and most others would as well.

(In the case of backordered items, again it will not kick in until they SHIP so you wouldn't lose the time when they were on backorder.)

I told the caller I had already purchased Squaretrade so they didn't do anything but I did ask them to clarify when the 30 days timer begins and they said it begins when the item ships/invoices. He did say that they think it does not add much time since things "typically" ship overnight.

In the case of my iPad preorder though, it shipped on March 11th and that's why I wasn't able to get AppleCare+ cause I went to try and get it on April 12th.

What? Nonsense!

I would still argue that this is unreasonable...but you did what you could.

I was recently invited to buy from warrantizor.com ... I think they are still in beta ... they are priced really good and include ADH in every plan. Most products have no deductible, but the ones that do are only $25.
