Mine is doing the same thing. While plugged in and charging, the temp of the Memory Controller goes up to 59-61C and the fans kicked up to 3500rpm and as high as 6000rpm. Is this normal?

I also noticed that if I ran an application like iChat, the fans stayed constantly at the 6000rpm level.

i get this, and sometimes i get some webpages that take a while to load, as soon as i pull magsafe out, they load instantly. I think there is a bug somewhere or a memory leak, im gonna call apple support later and discuss

Well, at least I am not the only one. Thanks for all your input. I do believe it is the Memory Controller that the fans are worrying about while charging.

mine does this too, fans speed up to 6000 rpm when charging a partially empty battery and doing absolutely nothing. it makes me wonder what happens if you close the lid to put it to sleep when the battery is charging? is that why we have magsafe plugs melting? haven't had a chance to try this.

My SR runs hot, even when on a hard surface. Right now I have it on a flat wooden surface and am charging the battery from scratch (calibrated last night), but my fans have not shut off during this entire charge. All I'm doing is typing on this forum, yet my idle temps are in the 60s including memory controller.

Still, this isn't as annoying as when it's running on battery and gets very hot (temps in 70s) but the fans don't go up as the memory controller is at a lower temp

My MBP doesn't really get hot. I always have it on a bare lap and it never burns me. It's just warm. Right now it's 48 degrees and it's charging.

Is it suppose to still happen

Im just looking through the forum and it seems like noone has this problem anymore. were they supposed to have fixed it?
