That's why Apple know they can get away with it. Cos consumers are generally lame and apathetic. They might whinge a little in a forum they have already registered for about the outrageous 4 or 5 replacements they have been through, but would they challenge Apple? Too meak for that. Eventually they just roll over and spread their cheeks.

Bolloooocks

:( Well i recieved my second replacement yesterday afternoon and its a lemon allright!

This puppy has one of the most unevenly shutting lids...I have like 3mm on both the left and the right side when closing the lid.I recieved a week 29 with the same Samsung LED screen.Although not as yellowish as the previous one the yellowishness was still there.

I decided hey i can put it up with it...i dont wanna be bothered sending it away again just cause it doesnt close perfectly and its a bit yellow but then the FANS happened. They zoom like crazy once they get going, now thats something i couldnt just ignore. I then wondered why they got going so often and decide to check the temps. I idle @ 65C degrees .

So after a little less than 24hours ive called apple and getting exchanged again. I bought it 4 weeks ago. And of the 4 weeks ive only used it 1 day :(

I submitted a repair request through Apple Care today...the confirmation e-mail noted the following:

Problem Description: System video/sound - Non uniform color/contrast/brightness

Will keep you guys updated about whether or not just replacing the LCD (rather than requesting a full exchange) results in a screen without the yellow. In the meantime you should all Digg this:

Disappointment! One after another.

Did it few days ago, no reply yet though.

When I wrote it took maybe 3-4 days before both the local apple store manager (5th avenue store NYC) AND a lady from apple executive relations called. Once they had made contact I could barely get rid of them they were so eager to make me happy. Seriously!

Hope they reply to you too.

Got mine for 5 days. Slight yellow on bottom for some angle from the testing pictures download from here. No gradients issue. Not notice in normal use, under Windows XP and games. I'm reasonable happy, I think I'm keeping it. :p

What model is it - Samsung or LG?

Thanks

Contacted Apple Care on 25th
Received Shipping Box from DHL at 8am on the 26th (in California)
Shipped via DHL on the 26th at 5pm
Arrived at Apple Repair Facility (in Texas) on the 27th at 8:15am
Received notice that Apple had finished repairs around 12pm

Wow...they are quick!

Too bad DHL doesn't ship on weekends or I'd probably have my MBP. I'm crossing my fingers that my issue has been resolved. With my luck maybe they just wrote off my request to swap out the screen and are returning it without repair. That would explain the quick turnaround. Can anyone tell I'm a pessimist? When your request for repair is denied does it usually show up on the apple.com/support page you login to? :)

keeping it... even though it has the yellowish overcast... you want the computer bad, ain't you?

If it has the whole screen yellowish cast, that takes all of 10 seconds to fix.
System Preferences, Displays, Colour, Adobe RGB. Looks great.

Yellow screens are not a problem. Yellow GRADIENTS over the screen when looking STRAIGHT AT THE SCREEN are.

As I said, I don't see the problem during normal use and gaming. I don't want to spend a month or two on exchanging, as now getting busier every week as new semester just started. What if the issue is worse on the replacement, then the one after? I can always get apple to replace the screen anyway later in the warranty year, if I start to notice the issue in normal use.

The Adobe RGB profile is not a display profile.. You aren't supposed to select that.

Everybody who has this issue should report it to apple tech support and (hopefully) if enough do it apple will consider it a real issue and have a proper solution for everyone. I'm sure it would take alot of people to make this happen though.

how can you tell which screen your mpb has? i just got my new 2.2 in today and i know it's a week 30 (also came with the new model magsafe).

Go in System Prefs --> Display --> Color --> Open Profile --> then scroll down to #13 called mmod. You'll see 4 squares, one written Model. If you have 00009C68 you have a Samsung. If not you have an LG.

cool, thanks! mine's a samsung- don't see much yellowing at all- i'll run some more thorough tests later tonight when i get home from work to be sure!

I got my screen back. Apparently Apple's idea of repairing my screen is to get dirty fingerprints all over it. The repair summary indicated that they did the following repairs:

607-1099 LED DRIVER BRD/INSUL SUBASSY,M75 (UPDATE: Apparently they replaced the hardware that drives the power for the LED?)

Have no idea what that means but I know they didn't replace the panel. At least the service was quick. Repair service was requested on 7/25 and I received the machine back on 7/30. Would have been quicker if not for DHL not working on the weekends. Although the speed of the repair may have been because they didn't do anything at all :p

I think this is the best way to tell if you have the issue.

1. Hide the dock
2. Save the images to your desktop (the gray image is easier for me to tell):

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/313239/

3. Open up the images and move the image so that the bottom square is near the bottom of your screen
4. Flip your laptop upside down (im serious here) and compare the two squares by looking at the screen head on (NOT AT AN ANGLE, YELLOW AT AN ANGLE IS NORMAL!!!).

Hopefully this thread is true:

Anyhow I am sending mine back. Hopefully they just replace the screen this time. The Apple "product specialist" noted that the problem may be due to a faulty logic board. That comment made me scratch my head. They seem pretty willing to help out until I'm satisfied so I'm crossing my fingers on this one.

MBP 2.4, Samsung LTN154BT screen, yellowish bottom 1/3, darker right side, darker row at the very bottom. Goes back to the dealer.
