If it's not too noticible, I might very well keep it instead of having to go through the process of returning it and possibly getting another defective unit (I'm going off to college soon). However, if so, would it lead to a higher failure rate in the future, or would it just be permanently yellowish? In other words, could I keep using the MBP for at least 3-4 years with no additional screen issues provided there are no other problems?

I've become absolutely scared to death getting a Samsung model and finding out I have a screen issue, even though I believe most MBPs don't have this. Getting a Samsung one doesn't necessarily mean there will be a problem, but if there is one, I guess there isn't much one can do about it.
Honestly I just used this machine for a few hours and only remembered about it when I came in here. If I hadn't even bothered to look on this forum I wouldn't have noticed it not being fully closed when I close it, the only 'problem' would be the squeaky spacebar which I hear but doesn't really bother me.

The yellow tint is so minute to me that it just doesn't affect me. I have Applecare so I'll sort it out in a few years time or something.

if you do a search you can find my thread where I posted pictures of my samsung screen. half the posters say I have the yellow screen and the other half say I don't. I really don't notice any yellowing. I notice that the screen appears to be a tiny bit darker near the bottom against a completely white background, but on 99.999% of backgrounds it looks perfect...but honestly, I've never ever seen a "perfect" display. Dead pixels I would not accept...but I've never seen a display with absolutely no light leakage, no uneven colors, etc. I feel like my mbp is perfect. if only I can find a way to get that smaller power adapter...

Well, I got mine replaced today, and it's exactly the same. Replaced a week 23 with a week 29.

Shall see what the temps are like.

I checked my Repair Status online today and noticed that a hold was placed on my repair. I ended up calling the product specialist assigned to my case and she noted that whoever was placing the repair on hold indicated that there was no problem with my laptop and it was "within spec"

At this point I'm fairly irritated. I've been without my MBP for basically two weeks now. I asked the person on the phone why they had performed the other "repairs" on the screen the first two times if the problem was "within spec." She couldn't give me a good answer to that question and said she agreed with my point but couldn't approve a replacement without first seeing images (or so she says).

So I basically sent her the same images that I posted in these forums a page or two back. She said that she could see the issue but that I she needed to make sure that these weren't doctored in anyway (she noted that the images were using Apple Preview). Seriously now...what would I have to gain by faking photos? I just want the damn thing fixed. I don't need nor care for a replacement if its not necessary. How were the rest of you guys able to get Apple to replace your system multiple times with little to no hassle?

She stated that the repair facility was going to ship my MBP back to me and that she would like me to take more photos...sigh. 1 Infinite Loop indeed...

I'm amazed....very poor.

I think Apple has decided enough is enough with the serial replacement gambit that people are employing to try to gain a yellow-free screen.

I was asked to submit photos when my replacement machine turned up with a dodgy yellow screen too. They seem VERY reluctant to allow another replacement, and this computer has several other issues as well.

Sadly, it MAY be that apple is going play dumb/"within spec" in order to force these screens upon people until existing stock is cleared and the problem is fixed.

I know this is kind of a dour perspective, but I have a hunch.

The product specialist was actually the one that brought up getting me a replacement. In my particular situation I never once asked for an exchange. I just think its kind of ridiculous that they pull the "within spec" BS on my THIRD repair. We'll see how it goes once I send them images. I may have to resort to e-mailing sjobs@apple.com as everyone who has done so appears to have had at least some success on getting through to someone.

So is the general consensus that some of the latest batch of MBPs still has this 1/3 yellow screen issue, limited mostly to the Samsung units? Man, I was hoping Apple would've rectified this problem by now... :(

What percentage of new MBPs sold now do you think have this?

That sucks. I am getting my 3rd one soon. By the way, did u get the smaller AC Adaptor?

I received my 3rd replacement MBP this morning. I still can see that the bottom part of the screen is darker. Nothing I can do. They all have that. I am going to keep it. Everything else is fine. By the way, I received the smaller AC Adapter.

A question: how do i determine the manufacture date again? I believe mine is week 31... Just wanna double check.

Bummer...anyhow its the two digits after the 7 in the serial number.

this is totally frustrating. I guess I'm going to wait until they fix this problem ... i still have 40 days before my school starts ... still have plenty of time to wait
I've been waiting to buy my first MBP since they came out !!!

Has anyone confirmed that the gradient "issue" is truly an defect? I see the lines on my MBP, but day to day use it doesnt effect me. I did however install WinXP via Boot Camp to play Doom 3. A couple of areas in Doom 3 do look odd, but I'm not 100% sure its due to this issue.

Any comments?

Yesterday I received my fifth replacement - a week 31 LG. It still has a slight yellow tint at the bottom, but it is an improvement over my previous machines and I will keep it. I'm happy. :)

I received my replacement last week, it is a week 30 with LG screen and also the bottom yellow tint is much better than the first Samsung. But it is still there. So far I'm trying to ignore it but I am not totally happy. The fact that it took you to 5th replacement to get a decent, but still slightly yellow, screen is discouraging.

Replacement MBP: Week 30 2.4gig CTO with a Samsung screen
Very very very faint yellow after recalibrating; much better than my first SR MBP with an LG screen (week 27). No waves, no dead pixels.
Its close to perfect and definitely good enough for me. I also got the small power adaptor. Too bad about not getting iLife 2008, but I'll probably spring for the new iMac soon anyways.

The picture on page 14 or 15 is the best...didn't take any effort to persuade apple store either.

Unless you take a picture with the lens perpendicular to the screen, you will see a difference between the top and bottom of the screen. I dont see any yellowing in your picture, only a slightly darker screen at the bottom, which is a result of the angle.

Mine has an LG screen with yellowing at the TOP rather than the bottom part of the screen. Has anyone else experienced this? Still debating whether to ask for a replacement...

On a side note, does anyone know how to revert to a previous version of the default color profile? I used the "repair" option in the ColorSync utility which gave my entire screen a yellow tint so I'm trying to get my old settings back...
