Nope. I’m an avid runner myself but I don’t need the always on display. It’s always worked fine for me, even in short races and events like the mile.

Just realised that when you place an order you can select any strap you want so have now ordered the Space Grey Titanium with the Pine Green Sport Band

I placed an order for the new S5 watch.

I already own the S4 SS.

I am sitting here contemplating just canceling it. To pay $800 for an "always on" feature is kind of nuts.

I am getting $240 for the old phone, but still, I could wait till next year and get a better watch.

Thinking this through...

Also as an avid runner, I look forward to an always on display. That's one of the minor annoyances I've had with the AW vs my prior Garmin running watches -- sure the AW works most of the time but sometimes it doesn't.

Each to their own! :D

The other draw for me is the 32GB of onboard storage vs. the AW4's 16GB. That should let me store a lot more music / podcasts / Pandora station cache on the watch for my runs (I don't take my phone)

I hadn't been thinking I'd do an upgrade but those two features changed my mind.

I'm not upgrading. Part of my justification for getting the steel models, had a series 0 SS and now have a 4 SBSS, is that I keep them for at least three years before I even consider upgrading.

But even if I didn't take that attitude I would not upgrade. I think always on is overrated. When I have a face with a relatively bright face that comes on when it's dark I find it to be very distracting, especially when driving. Now, if I were in healthcare and used the watch for taking vitals, like my wife does, then it would be a different story.

I recently received an AW4 SS as a replacement for my series 3 SBSS so it still feels like a new watch, I’m ok for always on, I don’t need it to be on if I’m not looking at it.

I'm happy with AW4 in fact I like the idea to raise up my wrist to look at it everyday!

Who really need Always-On Retina display :D

Personally I agree

From a financial standpoint.... if you are going to upgrade your watch every single year... it makes absolutely no sense to upgrade past the aluminum model.... your just throwing your money away!

I won’t be upgrading from my 44mm series 4 and don’t think I will ever upgrade my Apple Watch at launch ever again

It’s more fiscally responsible to buy 6 months after launch for 50% off

Titanium model is real nice though... I thought it was going to be more expensive than the ceramic

But yeah... I’m good this year on the watch.... Due to the blue collar aspect of my job from day 1 I’ve kept my series 4in a unicorn beetle pro and it’s 100% Mint!

I just canceled the above order.

I can't justify paying another $650 just for an "all awake" option.

I can put that money aside for the Series 6 watch which will be far more innovative.

I think you are being a stickler here, and you know it.

Oh FFS!!! Jesus H Christ, you say “far more innovative”, then slate my post, then say “gradually better”, then have another dig. The two are completely and utterly different, poles apart. That will teach me not to have a friggin’ joke in this place! I give up...whatever!

Glad you gave up. Hard to tell when people are trying to be funny.

I honestly don’t need that always on feature either and I don’t see any other feature that warrants an upgrade from the series 4 to be honest

I shall not be upgrading. I expect performance to be identical, I am not hurting for RAM, and an Always On display is not important to me.

I do wish they had released the Hermes model in Space Black last year as I would have gone for it instead of my Space Black Stainless.

I’m upgrading from a Space Black 44 S4 to a Space Black Titanium 44 S5.

I’m stoked!
