I’ve just bought a SBSS series 3 with apple care until sept 2019 and I’m returning my series 4 Nike aluminium.

I’m too uptight with my watches and would end up putting a screen protector on the aluminium watch glass.

Saved £220 as well

The series 4 is actually a 3.5, in my opinion. Pretty much the same thing, minus a larger screen. Many claim battery life being better on the Series 3.

I would go with the Series 3.

Good points. I think if somebody was upgrading from the Series 3 to the Series 4, it is vastly similar, with the exception of the larger display. If someone was upgrading from a Series one to the Series 4, that would a massive improvement in all area’s. I guess it depends on what model somebody is upgrading from to appreciate all the capabilities the Series 4 has to offer.

Can anyone speak to the performance difference between the series 3 & series 4? I am coming from a series 2 and am frustrated with laggy performance. Would purchasing a series 3 SS be a bad idea from a future proofing standpoint?

There are speed comparisons of AW3 and AW4 on YouTube. Not really much difference IMO so I returned my AW4 Nike LTE and bought a pristine AW3 SS. Sure AW4 has a bigger screen with larger icons and font but in reality it’s just a black rectangle on your wrist most of the time. I wasn’t interested in the ECG or fall protection. Also there is wrist heart rate comparisons between AW3 and AW4 online and again there seemed to be no differences in bpm.

For a quick comparison, the series 3 Apple Watch dual core processor is significantly quicker over the Series 2, it’s actually {70%} faster over the Series 2, but in terms of comparing the Series 3 to the Series 4, I wouldn’t say it’s drastically different. If you were to upgrade to the Series 3, you would see the speed upgrades significantly, but with the Series 3 to the Series 4 is more incremental. Either way, it’s much improved.

The below source discusses the processor speed increases from the Series 2 to the Series 3:
