I was really wanting to get the 38mm space black stainless steel, but i am a little confused as to what bands will be available to purchase with it.
Is the steel link band ($1049) the only configuration available at launch?
Im only asking because when you click on say, the 38mm Stainless Steel case with white sport band, down in the features section it says "stainless steel or space black stainless steel case." Which leads me to believe there may be a color option available when pre-orders open....anyone else thinking this?

Link?

Because as of right now, everything I can see points towards the Space Black Stainless Steel model only being available with the Space Black Link Band.

I think it's just referring to steel case options, and it's misleading. I don't expect black to be an option without the black links bracelet.

ah, well damn.

I understood it as the black SS being available when the preorder opens up. If the black one is only available at 1099 price point, I will be pretty dissapointed

EDIT: The more I look at it and compare, the more I am inclined to believe it will only be available at that 1044/1099 price.

I just don't think so. Why not show it now, especially since it would be a higher price? I think they're using the black as an up sell, requiring the more expensive band.

i´m willing to get the 42 SS space black
but i hope there is noon scuff with the material like the iPhone5

All I know is what ever it is applied over stainless, if scratched it will look terrible. And there is no way you could wear it daily without it getting scratched or even the watch case. Just a fact of life.

That can be the case with most PVDs, but the DLC version of PVD is actually incredibly scratch resistant. DLC watches can look brand new for years, and if you scratch DLC with a key and anything shows up, it's usually because the key actually breaks down and rubs off on the watch, which you can wipe off. We're talking near diamond levels of scratch resistance.

We'll see how good of a job Apple did with their DLC.

But hopefully not so bad as by the iphone 5 black
the combination is limited with the black one ( looks terrible in combo with normal SS)

We shall see but I can just imagine the threads that will be here. Things that are worn, wearables, are going to wear.
Yes , sure absolutely agree
but it should be so like a luminox watch (wear them daily (matte black) and have NO scratch were a other color then black lights up (maybe grey)

This is a generic description used for all SS models. The Space Black Apple Watch is only available with the link bracelet.

Funny you mention Luminox as it is likely my favorite when I wear a watch and I have put it through hell and it still looks good. The hard black finish is tuff as it comes but not pretty enough for the Apple watch.

These are great watches for sure. You can get all kinds of different bands, I am looking for the velcro one as my rubber one is showing a little wear after 18 months.

Great - if the Black Apple watch has this quality ! GREAT!
i take the 500 Bucks Luminox as Benchmark (without Saphire)

DLC is what high end makers use, and what 3rd parties use on watches from the likes of Rolex. Assuming it was done correctly, the DLC should be as scratch resistant, or more, than the sapphire.

I am sorry but I will have to see this before I believe that. No way it is more scratch resistant than saphire.

I got watches that are beat to hell and the saphire face looks like new. DLC on Rolexes? Is that the ceramic finish on the newer models on the sub's bezel? If so it scratches for sure.

I will get a picture of my neighbors new scratched sub when he was running and glanced off a stucco wall! The ss band, case and ceramic bezel is distressed big time and only the saphire face is still like new

We will know soon as the wear factor on DLC will be tested and reported HERE!

No, it's called diamond-like carbon, DLC, for a reason. Do the research. I've seen guys on watch forums take keys, knives, etc., to their DLC watches, writing things on them with scratches, only to be able to wipe it right off, because it's not actual scratches, but, rather the brass and steel from the keys/knives being left on the surface.

Assuming Apple did their DLC like other good companies, this will be the most scratch resistant of all the Apple Watches.

Your friend's Sub has a ceramic bezel, which is very different.

Random internet search for "DLC watch" yielded this:

now the question is..... DLC on SG SS apple watch ?
Sorry, I don't understand the question. What is "SG SS apple watch".

If SG is "space gray", that color only comes on the aluminum sport watch. The color is dyed into the surface when the watch is anodized. No DLC coating on the aluminum.

The stainless steel watch comes in space black (not gray). The black color is DLC.

I would assume he meant space black.
