It does shorten the boot time by a mile. I BTO the previous generation 13-inch MBP with a 128GB SSD from Apple and the boot time was ~6 seconds.
Haha, no it wasn't.

Ok so I just ran a few "Boot" tests, and something doesn't feel right. Once the Apple logo shows up on boot, the little spinning circle takes about 15 spins, and then it finally boots. Does that sound right at all?
Also, total boot time now from Apple logo to full desktop is about 35-40 seconds. That DEFINTELY cannot be normal for a SSD.
Someone help?
I don't boot often, but I do notice that it's a pretty variable process. With my SSD, most of the time it takes like 1/4 of a gear spin before that screen goes away. Randomly it will take a lot longer even if I haven't installed any software. Wouldn't worry about it too much.
Give up the space and go for the speed.
I'll probably wait until year's end or early next year to get a SSD.
By then I expect that i'll be able to get a 160GB SSD for $250.
I'd love to take my ~user and put that on an external drive. It would be really nice to have USB 3.0 next year so that a simple external drive or array would have a bunch of data and be very fast but not quite as fast as the internal SSD. The system would scream.
This has me drooling. I'm considering replacing my boot drive with a 64GB SSD and then putting a 500GB in Optibay. I assume that I could put my home folder and documents and such on the 500GB. Is that correct?
