Samsung 830 256GB on sale for 24hours at Newegg for $299.99 with promo code EMCYTZT1302

I really want an SSD, and want to pull the trigger on this so bad, but god damn, its still $300...

Yeah I wished I would have waited because I bought an OCZ instead :( thing performs well enough and I got it for cheaper can't really complain. The prices on these things are still so high but the performance is just mind blowing.

"best" SSD for late 2008 Macbook pro

Hi every one...

I m looking for an SSD for my late 2008 Macbook pro.

given the fact I'm gonna load it with 8GB of ram and update it to Lion...

which do you think it would be the best choice nowadays?

my budget is 300 - 400 euros.

thanks in advance...

For about £460 you can get the 512gb m4 at newegg right now. Not sure if you can find a top tier 512gb drive near that price on anything else. I chose the crucial drive because you can easily upgrade the firmware with Macs. I wanted to get the samsung 830 but they require firmware upgrades be done with a PC, so that and the fact they cost quite a bit more led me to the m4. I am very happy with m4 on my 2010 MBP which I upgraded to lion with the new SSD.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

I'm having a really hard time deciding which ssd to buy. The Crucial m4 or Samsung 830? Which 128gb version of the ssd is the better option? I'm willing to pay more for the Samsung if it is better.

Samsung may be a little better but you can't update the firmware on a mac. If you are ok with upgrading the firmware on a PC and are willing to pay a little more, then get the samsung. If not get the crucial. From what I have read (and my experience with the crucial) you won't be disappointed with either.

Thank for the reply but its out of my budget,
what would you say about INTEL 520 CHERRYVILLE 240GB ?

Im thinking of buying the crucial M4 for my 13 inch MBP 2009, what you guys think?> :)

Yes - it wont run to its full capacity because your MBP does not have SATA 3 - The price difference between SATA 2 and SATA 3 isnt much - sometimes SATA 3 is less expensive. Plus if you ever purchase a new laptop with SATA 3 it will run faster than if you purchase a SATA 2 SSD for your current machine.

Short answer: Buy Crucial M4

Just bought the Crucial M4 256GB for $299 on Amazon (sweet!) along with an OWC Data Doubler. They'll be here on Thursday so I have some time to prepare things.

I currently have two partitions on my drive: one for Lion and one for Windows 7 in Boot Camp. How do I transfer these partitions in tact to the SSD? I'd really prefer to not reinstall everything as that's just too time consuming right now. Also, how can I move my Users directory to the 750GB hard drive and not run into any issues? If there's a link to this... Just guide me.

Samsung 830 256 Gb on a late 2011 15" MBP i7 2.2 w/ 8 Gb Ram

after a few minutes, the read speed can reach 500 mb/s but write speed does not go beyond 401

which is already more than twice the results i got with my Intel 510 120 Gb :)

im now in love with samsung's 830 performance... so i just bought one :D
will be arriving on friday =) cant wait to install this beast =)

QUESTION: do i have to update the samsung's firmware first before i install lion?

Great Thread

I was given a 64gb Patriot SSD and was wondering if it would be worth installing at a boot drive with just the OS and a few programs on it, then use the hard drive caddy for my mid 2k9 mbp and run the rest of the programs/music/bootcamp. Any thoughts to how i could or should go about this?

I am interested in getting an SSD for a late 2011 MBP and can't seem to decide between an intel 520, crucial m4, or vertex 3.

Any suggestions from users? I'm actually keen on getting the intel 520, but am interested to see if there are any users out there with real world test results?

Also, if I put my SSD as a boot drive in my optibay, will it work? If so any one who has done so can give some guidance please?

Thanks!
J

You need to put it in main bay and hdd in optibay.
Buy Samsung 830 or Crucial M4.

I brought crucial m4 installed in 2009 macbook pro, So much faster than HDD, really happy with this SSD so far. :D

Check out Carbon Copy Cloner - it's free and should meet your needs! :)

If you just bought it, then it should ship with the latest firmware. However, it never hurt to check, although you need access to Windows.
