I've seen 3000 Mb/s in one review not sure of size. Seems like 90% of reviewers have M4 Pro we will have to wait till tomorrow for the average users to really tell us.On heise.de ssd speeds of about 6000 mb/s have been reported for a 1gig ssd on the mini m4pro and 2gig ssd on a macbook pro.
Any results for other sizes?
Is that for a 256 GB or a 512?Here's a review of a M4 Pro 14-core, 48GB, 1TB, 10Gbe, showing a bit above 6k write and 5k read, and it shows an M4 iMac at 3k on both graphs. In another video by the same reviewer, the M4 iMac is a 10-core, 24GB, 1TB model.
1 TB in both cases. So, it seems like the M4 iMac has a slower SSD even in a larger size. I haven't been able to find data on the smaller sizes or on the base M4 Mac mini, but that's what I'd like to know, too.Is that for a 256 GB or a 512?
Yikes if 1 TB M4 is 3000 Mb/s 256, 512 will be closer to 1500-2000 I bet.1 TB in both cases. So, it seems like the M4 iMac has a slower SSD even in a larger size. I haven't been able to find data on the smaller sizes or on the base M4 Mac mini, but that's what I'd like to know, too.
In the past, the real differentiator is how many chips they use. When they use one chip, the speed is half, and two chips is full speed. I'm not sure if they are now using substantially bigger single chips for some models, but it definitely looks different from the prior pattern (where only 256GB was slower).Yikes if 1 TB M4 is 3000 Mb/s 256, 512 will be closer to 1500-2000 I bet.
This review seems to list the “base model (as tested)” Mini with 256GB (I think, given the price it lists) as also around 3500/3000 r/w.Yikes if 1 TB M4 is 3000 Mb/s 256, 512 will be closer to 1500-2000 I bet.
The easiest reason would be if they're using different number of chips, like they have at times in the past.I see no reason why 1TB on the M4 mini would be any different to the M4 Pro mini.
Wrong. This review seems to list the “base model (as tested)” Mini with 256GB (I think, given the price it lists) as also around 3500/3000 r/w.

I tried the new Mac mini M4 and this tiny mini PC is an absolute powerhouse — even if you don't get the pro model
The redesign and power boost we’ve been waiting forwww.tomsguide.com
Exactly it seems like every test model sent out is at lest 1 TB...Wrong.
The as tested does not indicate which specific trim he tested.
This reviews claims they were sent 512GB, but doesn’t mention any SSD benchmark.Exactly it seems like every test model sent out is at lest 1 TB...
ThanksThis review has a Mini Pro with 512GB giving >5k GBps
Good for me![]()
yeah usable, but it compares to fastest ssd speeds of 6 years ago.3000 Mb/s is very useable.
Very true but what can we do about it...yeah usable, but it compares to fastest ssd speeds of 6 years ago.
Unlikely since the m4 512 will likely be two 256 SSDs, so two NAND channels each running at 1,500 for a total of 3,000.Yikes if 1 TB M4 is 3000 Mb/s 256, 512 will be closer to 1500-2000 I bet.
Mixed those up. Should have said 256 would be 1500Unlikely since the m4 512 will likely be two 256 SSDs, so two NAND channels each running at 1,500 for a total of 3,000.
That 1 TB is likely two 512 SSDs. So same speed.
