On heise.de ssd speeds of about 6000 mb/s have been reported for a 1gig ssd on the mini m4pro and 2gig ssd on a macbook pro.
Any results for other sizes?

I've seen 3000 Mb/s in one review not sure of size. Seems like 90% of reviewers have M4 Pro we will have to wait till tomorrow for the average users to really tell us.

Here's a review of a M4 Pro 14-core, 48GB, 1TB, 10Gbe, showing a bit above 6k write and 5k read, and it shows an M4 iMac at 3k on both graphs. In another video by the same reviewer, the M4 iMac is a 10-core, 24GB, 1TB model.

Is that for a 256 GB or a 512?

1 TB in both cases. So, it seems like the M4 iMac has a slower SSD even in a larger size. I haven't been able to find data on the smaller sizes or on the base M4 Mac mini, but that's what I'd like to know, too.

Yikes if 1 TB M4 is 3000 Mb/s 256, 512 will be closer to 1500-2000 I bet.

In the past, the real differentiator is how many chips they use. When they use one chip, the speed is half, and two chips is full speed. I'm not sure if they are now using substantially bigger single chips for some models, but it definitely looks different from the prior pattern (where only 256GB was slower).

This review seems to list the “base model (as tested)” Mini with 256GB (I think, given the price it lists) as also around 3500/3000 r/w.

Below TheVerge M4 review of the MB Pro with 1TB SSD seems around the same speed, with again a 2x difference for the Pro.

So, the difference in SSD speed seems to be mainly between the M4 and M4 Pro?

I see no reason why 1TB on the M4 mini would be any different to the M4 Pro mini.
The easiest reason would be if they're using different number of chips, like they have at times in the past.

Note that the M4 Mac mini can only be configured up to 2 TB (just like the top configs of the M4 iMac), but the M4 Pro Mac mini can be configured up to 8TB. There's definitely some difference in their storage configurations, but it's not yet clear how that's going to impact performance.

Wrong.

The "as tested' does not indicate which specific trim he tested.

He emailed me and 'claims' it was a 16gb/256gb model but his review certainly doesnt seem to state that clearly.

So I would be highly skeptical of that specific review.

Edit: I asked him to double check and they sent him the 512gb unit actually. he's correcting the article.

My bad, good catch, was confused by them mentioning the base price.

Then I guess we have to wait until there’s perhaps more reviews found where they are reviewing base model and providing SSD benchmarks. Or else just wait until actual user data tomorrow.

Edit:

Now it lists 512GB specifically, then we can still not conclude anything on the 256GB unfortunately.

Exactly it seems like every test model sent out is at lest 1 TB...
This reviews claims they were sent 512GB, but doesn’t mention any SSD benchmark.

Same for TechRadar’s review, mentioning M4 512GB to be their review unit specs.

Sounds like it's the same as the M2 Mini, the 256GB model being single chip and 1,500 MB/s and 512GB 3,000 MB/s.

Unlikely since the m4 512 will likely be two 256 SSDs, so two NAND channels each running at 1,500 for a total of 3,000.
That 1 TB is likely two 512 SSDs. So same speed.

Mixed those up. Should have said 256 would be 1500
