So I'm somewhat torn about what option to go with. I love the Space Black Stainless Steel, but the seemingly limited band options that "match" it is what is making me lean back toward the silver version. I know Apple may release more bands in the near future and there will be third party bands, but does anyone else feel this way?

You hit the exact reason I am not getting the SS Black. I want the regular SS because almost every band will go with it. Plus I love SS watches.

Does it matter if any bands 'match'? For what it's worth, my preference is the Space Black Stainless Steel, but the band I will get if I decide to buy it will be a completely separate choice :)

I feel the same way, if they just made a black Milanese loop then the decision would be so much easier. I hope they make it sometime!

Of course, everyone has different tastes, but generally, yes it does matter. It would look very strange (in my opinion) to have the space black apple watch with the black leather strap as the insert would be silver. But each to their own...

I agree band choices are a limiting factor. However, the only reason I'm not getting the Space Black version is it won't go well with my platinum and 18K gold wedding band.

Get the Space Gray sport band instead. While not exactly the same finish, the Space Gray SS pin is a better match. But yeah the leather bands won't work well.

Yea, I know that. I was simply answering another poster asking why it matters if band don't match.

I'd think so. You're not going to get a gold watch with a lime green band. They have to match or it looks clumsy and out of place.

Of course, in some instances, it can be perceived to look ridiculous. However, I don't think bands having a slightly different colour metal is a big issue. And I don't think people you work with/see are going to comment and point out if your watch is space black and the band looks like it has standard stainless steel on it.

I personally couldn't give a toss if someone thought my watch didn't look 'right' but I guess it matters a lot more to others, and that's fine :)

Well, that's because it's considered rude to do that, but most people would want to avoid looking like a major faux pas by having contrasting Space Black SS case and adjacent standard SS hinge.

I honestly can't imagine that Apple would leave out a whole segment of their watch purchasers to upsell bands to just because they prefer a certain color. May just be wishful thinking on my part though. :(

im gonna order a SS silver and a SS space black, gonna try them both on and return the one i like the least, only really looking to get the link bracelet since none of the others catch my attention. now the only thing I'm stuck on is which size

If you are afraid of scratches I'm sure Otterbox will be coming out with a very expensive (and poorly constructed from my experience) Defender for the Watch. Personally, it's a Watch! It will be my one portable Apple device that won't have protection. If it gets scratched/dinged so be it. The only thing I might get is a really nice screen protector so I don't have to deal with scratches. Other then that, no body protection.

If I had to choose the sport version, I will pick the space grey one, too. It looks good with the matching band.

Something to consider -- All types are capable of being scratched, so if you would hate that, and you would want the ability to buff out the scratches periodically, don't get black or grey, as those won't be repairable.

The black stainless will be more resistant to scratches, but it will still scratch, and it, and they grey alum, will show the shiny silver underneath, with more contrast.

I don't mind micro scratches on a watch like a Seiko Dive watch, a rugged looking sport watch, but I hate big scratches or ones that are easy to see, or on a dressy watch... I'll avoid the grey/black so I can buff them out.

I would be so worried about the scratches showing way too much on the SS Black ones. I have a Seiko SS watch with Sapphire crystal that I wore pretty regularly for about 3 years. I am great at banging it into walls and scratching it. The Steel has scratches that give it some character and the Sapphire crystal has had lines of plaster and paint buffed off over and over (mostly scratched off by a fingernail) and still looks brand new without a scratch of its own.

For that reason I really want the Sapphire crystal more than anything. I think scratches would show far worse in the Black SS. I am pretty sure that Seiko which is a decent watch with SS and Sapphire was about $350.

The more I see everyone's reasoning and price speculations the more I want to look at it from a different angle. I think the magic price point Apple hit for a nice SS watch was $499. They then looked at THAT and tried to see how to scale that back to an entry level watch and came up with the Sport model with slightly cheaper frame and crystal and positioned it at $349.

If the basic SS with Black sports band is much more than $499 I will likely be quite happy with the $349 Black sports model. I am in the camp that thinks there may be no difference in the price of the sizes for the Base and sports versions. It would be great PR for Apple if they truly made it just a size choice for personal preference. I have huge hands with size 14 fingers so the bigger one is a must.

And with my pricing I believe they still have a larger profit margin on the SS. They make up for the Sport on volume.

Who's going to notice a subtle difference like that?

Why is the black SS more scratch resistant?

It's a shame Apple doesn't have more matching options for the Black Space models.

I thought they should have made a slate gray leather loop and a space black milanese loop.

There is always a chance of course that more band options will be announced on Monday.

Just look at the Gold options...the most premium bands are not available for them...that doesn't make sense at all as pointed out by John Gruber.
