We stood in line last year... A few days later I called Best Buy on a whim. They had just gotten 10 phones in stock.

This is the way to do it if you don't want to waste hours in line. Just wait a few days. They're cranking out 150,000 phones a day - it will not be in short supply for long.

For my area, you need to go at least 9 hours in advance if you want to be the first first 10 people.. (CALI, BAY AREA)

My wife wants an iphone and I'm off this Friday so I'll go around 6am

Sprint store may be the best place

assuming they get the fair share of iPhone 4S like ATT, Verizon.

Verizon should unlock the GSM portion of the iPhone 4S too ...

You sir are a good man and have figured out the secret to a happy marriage. Congratulations and good luck! :)

Yup lol. I might pick up a 4GS to replace my Photon 4g as well since my termination fee is only $125 and I
can sell it on craigslist for $300 or more.

Last year I showed up about 10 minutes before close on launch day at the Apple Store to see if they had any iPhones left. They promised to take everyone in line at the time of close and sell the iPhones that had been unclaimed from preorders. I waited about a half hour to get mine. This year I am having it shipped to my house.

I've stood in line for the past four years and this year I am not. It's getting cold here now at night and getting there at 6AM is not my thing anymore.

I didn't get a phone ordered on Friday, tried a few times and gave up. Now I'm waiting until my upgrade date next month and I'll just order it online.

I think I've finally come to accept that I will not be getting an iPhone 4S this Friday. I don't have the time to wait in line. I run my own business and I can't afford to waste 5+ hours in line smh... And I slow-poked around and didn't pre-order in time to get it shipped to me Friday.

But I heard Best Buy is taking in-store pre-orders so I'm gonna give that a try tomorrow. If that doesn't work out, I'll just wait the 1-2 weeks for the pre-order (and hope that Apple ramps up production and shortens the wait for the people who weren't in the first million pre-orders lol).

They also are not disclosing that pre-ordering does not guarantee a phone on launch day. It's gonna be a first come first serve basis. Hence I did not bother to preorder with them, but will line up instead.

Waiting line for a apple product is the worst, the apple store had a line that wrapped around the mall like 3 times over for the iPhone 4 launch. I was horrified and left.

I strolled in the next morning and picked up my phone with no hassle or lines.

Waiting for a apple product is quite different than waiting for game console since only one store has them in mass stock (the apple store).

Last time I did this was back in 2005 for the XBOX 360. I got in line at 10PM the night before and didn't leave until 8AM the next morning after purchasing a unit.

Better than what I went through with my iPhone 4 AT&T (before I sold it). 10PM - 2PM. It was fine when it was 10PM but it started to get hot at around 7 AM, because this is Arizona we are talking about (July iPhone launch).

Time is money....unless you are unemployed!
stand in line for a cell phone?

Geez:eek:

Time ain't money unless I'm at work.

Lots of bitching about line standing -- it's a fun experience, especially if you do it with friends or a girlfriend/wife. Strike up a few random conversations, bring a deck of cards, etc.

Life is getting too fast paced when things like this start being "a chore." A chore is sitting at home waiting for a phone to be delivered or fighting traffic after work to make it to a UPS distribution center to pick a phone that got delivered when I was at work.

The reason for the bitching is that many do not experience that atmosphere when waiting.

When I went with my fiancee last year, the lines were insanely long, there was no food/water anywhere (to buy I mean, not expecting Apple to give us such), and we ended up waiting hours and hours

I am just fine waiting if we can play games, chat, etc...but there was none of that.

Somehow... I'e been in every single line for every phone launch since the first one... I didn't even plan to purchase a phone each time... yet walked away with one after all my time was invested for fun.

This time, I'll be on the other end on launch day with a lanyard and blue shirt on... and no phone for me. Oh how things change
