I have it horizontally on a MagSafe charger and it runs for a little over a minute and then the screen turns black. I saw a YouTube video which says that the Standby Always On needs to be selected or it just goes off. I don't have that setting on my phone though.
I have always on toggled on and the screen still goes black. This is the feature I was most looking forward to and it’s nearly useless for me. I want to open my eyes and see the time, not move to activate the screen. A standard bedside clock will display the time 24/7, why can my $1200 phone not do this? What is the point of standby if it just turns off? I could have the same functionality on iOS 16; my AOD would go off and if I wanted to see the time, I could tap the screen. Standby offers no more functionality than this. oooh, it can be horizontal now 🙄

I may be irrationally angry about this but I’m very upset, I was so excited for this feature. What are the chances Apple fixes this in an update if enough of us complain?

For the always on feature not going blank after a few seconds it works only if you have an iPhone with an always-on display (namely, the iPhone 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max, 15 Pro, or 15 Pro Max). An of coarse Allways-On Display must be turned on. Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Always On Display.

If you need a clock, just download one of the many Apps and run it. It's kind of sad that you have to do third-party to get this functionality. It would be nice to do split screen for the weather too.

Unfortunately I have all those boxes checked and still no luck. 14PM with AOD turned on savings day 1. Oddly, when I get notifications while in standby mode, it will show my Lock Screen and the notifications, and the screen stays on for basically forever. Goes black again after I turn the standby clock back on. This is awful.

It's possibly an anti-screen burn in measure, in which case there's a low chance of them letting you bypass it.

I have my iPhone 7+ set to display the weather 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for well over a year and I've had no screen burn-in issues. Let the customer take the risk if they want the feature.

The iPhone 7 Plus has an LCD display which isn't susceptible to burn-in like the OLED displays used on newer iPhones. Preventing users from keeping the screen on knowing it could have a negative impact sounds just like something Apple would do.

I guess I want phones with LCD screens then.

First morning checking standby Mode, & it forgets the screen I selected six hours earlier 🤦🏻‍♂️

It went back to the first screen on the list instead of the digital clock/date/weather.

At least I can count on a Google Nest Hub which is also in the vicinity.

I thought Apple would’ve at least stolen some very handy features from it for Standby Mode.

They stole the offline maps interface from Google Maps. I couldn't figure out how to do it until I figured that out.

Standby is a great feature, but it doesn't quite work for me. iPhone 13 goes into standby when plugged in and tilted, but goes black after 30s or so. Defeats the entire purpose if the screen goes black lol.

EDIT: I can't read, I didn't know this was only an iPhone 14 feature. please ignore my ignorance.

In the Standby settings in Night mode make sure Motion To Wake is on. Still goes off but small movement which you'll do unless you sleep accurately facing the phone wakes the display. Never had a problem with it since the betas.

My Nexus4 had a always on clock that moved a few pixels every minute to prevent burn in. That was how many years ago???

In Display and Brightness I have AOD turned off ( Don't see the use as it turns on as soon as I touch it )

Standby works fine when on a stand for some time but if I wake up in the middle of the night or the next morning , touch the phone to see the time it's back to the lock screen .

What am I doing wrong ? 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have been working with Apple on a bug with Apple regarding Standby Mode, iPhone 15 pro. With the cheap charging stands, like on Amazon, etc, Standby mode (with the display set to never turn off), the display will always go dark after 2-3 hours, and you have to jiggle the phone to get the Standby Mode display back. The phone still charges though (I think..)

This happens with 3 different (cheap) charging stands. With the Apple Mag Safe charger, the display always stays on in Standby Mode.

I call it a bug, but don't know if Apple will attempt to fix it.
