some low wage workers actually want to work, instead of losing a day of pay, so move on from the subject
I only know of two people who I work with that actually want to work on Thanksgiving. The rest of us don't. The problem is if you don't work on Thanksgiving and blackfriday when they choose to schedule you than you're fired.

----------

A lot of people don't even want to be with their families. Most of this stuff starts in the evening when everyone is beyond done with their family anyway. I know by 5 PM I'm sure as hell done with it.

So how you feel about your family dictates how everyone else feels. I'd rather be with my family on Thanksgiving.

----------

There are many "employees" who work shifts, through the night and ANY holiday depending on their job.
For some nationalities American Thanksgiving means nothing and so does Christmas and other holidays, just as Americans do not care about Chinese New Year, as long as their deliveries are not impacted.
(Pick any holiday)

To ask that nobody in America should work on Thanksgiving is not realistic.

Police, Firemen, doctors, hospital staff, restaurants, gas stations, newspapers, football players, reporters, TV anchors all working).............. you can keep adding

You're argument is bad in many ways. First off, thanksgiving is a holiday anyone can celebrate regardless or race, religion, nationality. As long as you are in the U.S and have things you can be thankful for and people you can enjoy it with than that's what it's for. Comparing, policeman, fireman, doctors (Are all emergency and law personel required to keep people safe) Not all restuarnts are open (It's shameful that they are) And football players (get paid millions to play a game. Who wouldn't be willing to work on a holiday to make their pay). Reporters and tv anchors get paid much more than minimum wage.

But whatever makes you feel better about shopping on thanksgiving

Since Staples announced support for Apple Pay, I will do my shopping there over Radio Shack, unless Radio Shack decides to support Apple Pay.

8 AM Thursday? They're open all day Thanksgiving? I won't support a business that forces employees to work on Thanksgiving.

:apple:

if you go to their website and look at black friday ad, you'll see the hours for that day. they will be closed from 12pm to 5pm. enough time for employees to leave, eat thanksgiving and come back to work

I don't have a dog in this fight.

I don't do Black Thursday or Friday. Many people do. I have zero issue with that.

I "may" shop online late Thursday or sometime on Friday. Last year, I did go to Best Buy on Black Friday at 9PM CST and found what I wanted (Nintendo 3DS for children) and upgraded my phone for free.

I know that I am always running to the store on Thanksgiving and Christmas for something. And I make it a point to thank the workers there helping me.

Please don't be caught reading a newspaper the day after Thanksgiving then. Those employees DO NOT get paid much more than minimum wage.

I just got a brand new 16 Gb Retina iPad Mini (iPad Mini 2) for $279 from Apple. I thought that was a great deal. But $239?. That's effing incredible!

(Had mine personalized though...can't do that through Radio Shack, but, I doubt many care about that!)

Enough with this "black" Friday crap. I NEVER REMEMBER it being like this. People expect everything for nothing. Back in the day it was like only JCPenny's that took small discounts off clothes. Society today is pathetic and I'm ashamed im apart of it.

You probably just don't like Black Friday because its black.

Why don't you demand to see it's birth certificate? :p

Man, I just bought an iPad Air 2 this past weekend because Best Buy was offering a $50 gift card with any iPad purchase. Now them, Target, Staples and "The Shack" are offering some even sweeter deals on Black Friday.

This gets worse every year. Why can't these merchants let their workers enjoy Thanksgiving with their families? Pretty soon, black friday will start on Wednesday.

Believe it or not, there are many employees in all business that VOLUNTEER to work on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year. Some families dont' acknowledge any of those holidays, especially if they follow a different faith.

Some people don't have families, or no longer talk to their families. Holidays for them are a painful reminder of what they don't have, so work is a great distraction.

I know someone that gets like triple pay for working on and around those days. And they already get over twenty dollars an hour so it can be quite appealing.

i just went to the staples website. the iPad mini2 16gb is currently on sale for $269, so this black friday deal is only $30 cheaper.

I think the catch will be their inventory. my local store says on their site they only have one in stock at that price

Back on topic...

Since they call these "doorbusters", I guess you can't just buy them online? I'd love to just go to bestbuy.com and pick one up. Otherwise, it's not worth fighting the crowds.

Thank you. I think we have a tendency of quickly blaming the big greedy corporations. Don't get me wrong, they are greedy, but we don't know enough to pass judgement.

Many immigrant Middle Eastern and Indian families that simply don't celebrate any of those holidays, so they don't mind working and using the free day off for something meaningful for them, such as Eid or Diwali.

my only other concern is if 16gb is enough storage? I wanted to get at least 32gb

I actually do not shop on Thanksgiving or for that matter very much in stores anyway, except for food.

Celebrating Thanksgiving or any holiday has been turned into "Sale events)
by business.

My point about American cultures vs. the rest of the world is that non American do not have the same ties to it. It's fine to have a day off and make it a family event, but that can happen anytime one wants to.

As to: Who wouldn't be willing to work on a holiday to make their pay.
Exactly! But, if you mean just the football player millions, it is still working on Thanksgiving.

And, the clean up crews, stadium hands, parking lot attendants are all working
for normal pay.

You want to give retail clerks a higher standing than all the other jobs. Not all are emergency jobs.

It is an individual decision even for retail clerks to work on Thanksgiving. There are people without families, people who don't care when they work etc.etc.

Anybody working in retail knows that holiday shopping brings in the most money and secures their jobs.

If you want to protect Thanksgiving as "holy" don't work day, you may want to get upset about Good Friday (Which wasn't that good for Jesus, if you are Christian) where retail stores are open.

Same for Christmas, 4th of July and whatever holiday you want to pick.

I think it was Radio Shack that had the $239 deal.

You mean, like they are? Radio Shack, unlike Staples, didn't have contactless terminals sitting disabled in every store. Staples was one of the many, many retails with contactless terminals that just had them disabled. All they had to do was enable them. Radio Shack needs to replace terminals, but they've already announced that they're doing it.

Sorry to say but if you don't remember deals you must be so old you lost your memory

Black Friday is a wonderful date to buy stuff, also online... without having to go in an hi-tech supermarket... ;)
