* Burger King
* Amazon.com
* fred Meyer
* Safeway
* costco
* costco gas stations
* movie theaters
* Taco Bell
* Wendy's
* chilis restaurants
* Applebees
* bestbuy
* Jamba Juice which works wih softcard
* ikea

The list is in no particular order. I've also cc'en svp Greg of Apple pay as well.

I don't think people understand yet.... any place that accepts NFC payments is compatible with Apple Pay (Unless they are partnered with CurrentC).

So we don't really need announcements of every store that supports it.... just find out if the store supports NFC.

It's called marketing. If Apple doesn't get the word out, in conjunction with their partners, Apple Pay will be relegated to the world of tech nerds. If Apple doesn't advertise it's availability it becomes what Google Wallet was after introduction. Heck, even GW has benefited from Apple Pay marketing.

Except that a merchant that formally announces "support" for ApplePay (essentially an endorsement, if you will) is far less likely to turn off those NFC pads under pressure from MCX.

With the backlash from ApplePay and Google Wallet users against MCX and the retailers that support it, these announcements are as much a PR move as anything else.

Companies decide to accept Apple Pay as a form of payment. Not the other way around. Greg will tell you the same thing when he responds.;)

Looking forward to retailers one by one climbing on board. Reminds me of back in the day when the iTunes store began taking on video content providers and they slowly but surely trickled in.

And this isn't just in-store- it is in their app. Which warrants an announcement on their part.

It still is marketing/PR, but if it pushes progress in the NFC arena - do we care?? I don't. Bring it on!

Am I the only one who thinks using a contactless card is quicker - and never runs out of battery?

Thanks to the folks here, I was able to track down a replacement AMEX card that comes with Chipset + Contactless.

I am also re-ordering my Chase Freedom Visa with Blink.

With these cards, I take them out of my pocket, and wave over. done. No friction with fingerprint...and I save $649 to boot!!:)

overpriced stuff at staples

last time i shopped in store, there were more employees than customers

surprised they are still in business

Well it's not up to Apple where it's accepted or not. But if we're talking about lame places to spend money at... that list above does the job!

MCX/CurrentC sure looks to be a clusterf*** now! I see a lot of people posting it's DOA, and I feel the same. CEO is backpedaling big time now, and appears to not know what to do......:confused:

I think Apple Pay is the future.:cool:

I think Apple Pay AND Contactless Cards are the future.

Contactless card is 1 step less than Apple Pay (Fingerprint is friction)

You do know that Apple Pay is synonymous with NFC as far as the end-user and the retailers are concerned, right? Apple Pay uses NFC technology.

I think Google is secure too, just less convenient in most cases.

Google's too much of a slacker to do nasty stuff like arrange contracts with providers on day one. Well, not a slacker. When the credit card initiative came up, two years ago, they wrote an app and figured out the basic engineering. And everybody bullies them, because they don't insist on things like Apple does. So Samsung and Verizon and all the other player open up dumb and incompatible variants, different security, etc. They write their own deals. Apple develops the fingerprint ID, they test it for a year, Passbook looks stunted for two years, and then, opening day, you just work with 80% market penetration.

But sure, the standard, rightly, is common for all, so things interoperate. Does Google keep your data? Will your purchases show up in the ad feed? Charge with Apple Pay, you know you paid, and the card company knows where you spent what, the merchant doesn't know anything but *bling*, and Apple doesn't either.

It's also a good idea to have at least one card with that enabled because of Google Wallet not working at all outside the US, even for US residents.

I'm still trying to keep up with how Apple Pay works. I get the technical stuff. But what's the difference between a store that supports AP, and one that doesn't support it officially but can still use it?

As others have noted, there's otherwise no difference to the user of any NFC wallet.

It's mostly about co-publicity and/or having their own store app support it.

As a side note, when an update to Google Wallet was announced in 2012, there were said to be "200,000" places to use it in the US. When Apple Pay was announced two years later in 2014, that number was only up to "220,000". It'll be interesting to see how much it rises over the next year with Visa's deadline looming, and Apple finally on board.

As of today, popular office supply store Staples has begun accepting Apple's Apple Pay payments service in its retail stores across the United States, according to information shared with MacRumors.When Apple Pay was first announced, Staples was listed as one of the retailers implementing in-store support for the payments service "later this year" along with Anthropologie, Free People, Sephora, Urban Outfitters, and Walt Disney World.

Staples has been an eager Apple Pay partner, initially promising support for the service back in September. The Staples iOS app has included Apple Pay support since it first launched on October 20, and when Staples announced Apple Pay integration, it said that in-store availability would be rolling out "within a few weeks."

Apple first teamed up with Staples last year, with the two striking a deal that saw Staples selling Apple products in its U.S. stores for the first time beginning in September. Since then, Staples has gone on to heavily promote Apple products both online and in stores, offering frequent deals.

With the addition of Staples, Apple Pay now has 34 retail partners, including competing office supply store Office Depot and other major retailers like Macy's, Disney, Foot Locker, Petco, Walgreens, and Toys R Us. Apple Pay is also accepted in any store that supports NFC contactless payments.

Retailers have largely been silent on the popularity of Apple Pay during its first month of availability, but Whole Foods' chief information officer told The Wall Street Journal that the company had processed 150,000 Apple Pay transactions in the 17 days following its October 20 debut. That equates to an estimated one percent of all Whole Foods transactions.

Used it last week, not news to me.

However, bought some blank dvd's. used apple pay, asked me at the screen debit or credit, then made me sign.

not too easy there Staples.

Yeah, I don't get why many are doing that. I wonder if the cashier is doing something on accident. It's not just Staples.

As far as the merchant is concerned, you are still using your credit card or debit card. The fingerprint authentication is for your iPhone, authorizing it to transmit your credit card (alias) info to the merchant's point-of-sale terminal.

The point-of-sale terminal will then handle it as if you presented the actual card and tapped it on the terminal. For a credit card, you may have to sign. For a debit card, you have to enter your PIN.

The merchant's terminal may not require a signature for transactions less than a certain amount. But again, that is independent of whether you use :apple:Pay or the physical card.

At some point, the authorization process may include a response from the issuing bank that says: "no, you don't need to collect a signature" from :apple:Pay users. For that matter, the process may already support it: anyone familiar with the nuts and bolts of authorization?

Essentially nothing, from the perspective of the end-user. Where officially supported you may see the Apple Pay logo on the NFC reader (like at Whole Foods). They list MC, VISA, AMEX and Apple Pay, etc.

As long as a store has a PIN pad that is NFC-enabled and they haven't turned NFC off like a few merchants have, you are able to use Apple Pay. Just look for the NFC logo (it looks like a Wi-Fi symbol turned clockwise 90 degrees). When you see that symbol, you will almost certainly be able to use Apple Pay.

You don't have to tell the merchant you're using Apple Pay, either. Just hold your phone up to the PIN pad, your iPhone will wake up automatically and show your default credit/debit card or you can switch to the card you want to use, put your finger on the Touch ID sensor and your phone will vibrate to indicate that the payment was successful and you will see a checkmark on your phone screen.

Awesome. I can't wait until Apple partners with Canadian banks. NFC is everywhere I shop! :D
