Well I should add that what I'm doing is building a movie collection; I don't intend to start watching with her yet for a while.

On the issue of shooting "villains" pre-emptively Harrison Ford as Indy also did that to the Arab swordsman in Raiders.

Does any fellow European know where one may find the unaltered versions on DVD? I'm drawing a blank when I search online.

I'm not sure if this is helpful or not, but I scanned the bar code on my boxed set, from 2004, and found a listing on Amazon.co.uk and they have one left.

I used to have a boxed set that I bought in the late 1990's that also included the original movies as they were showed in the 1970's in the theaters - with no special effects and no digital remastering. They were quite different to watch compared to the updated versions.

I have no idea what happened to them though. :(

A good man will always kill you quickly. But an evil man wants to watch you squirm first.

This excerpt from Terry Pratchett's Men at Arms illustrate this very well.
Something Vimes had learned as a young guard drifted up from memory. If you have to look along the shaft of an arrow from the wrong end, if a man has you entirely at his mercy, then hope like hell that man is an evil man. Because the evil like power, power over people, and they want to see you in fear. They want you to know you’re going to die. So they’ll talk. They’ll gloat.
They’ll watch you squirm. They’ll put off the moment of murder like another man will put off a good cigar.
So hope like hell your captor is an evil man. A good man will kill you with hardly a word.

Every 007 movie. Villain capture Bond, ties him up, sets up a needlessly elaborate method to kill Bond SLOWLY and gloats. Bond always offs the villain quick. No gloating, only a quick one liner after the fact.
