Starbucks Adds Passbook Support to Its iPhone App

Even if you have the US version, as long as you have a Canadian account it won't work.

Remember when you could walk into a Starbucks and an icon would appear in the music app telling you what song was playing and give you the option to buy it? Does that even still work anymore or was that discontinued years ago?

I don't have that option in settings. I got the popup asking me if I wanted to add my card to Passbook but after I tapped yes I also don't see anything in Passbook. I gotta say, Passbook is very disappointing compared to how they demo'd it at WWDC. I thought we would be able to scan our store cards and all the necessary info would automatically be imported. Oh we'll, I just hope it gets better.

Passbook will be another Newsstand (Newsstand on the iPhone).

*But at least Newsstand got some quality magazines on the iPad like the National Geographic Magazine and the subscription really works.

Finally Starbucks is on the right page. I only wish they used the time they wasted to at least incorporate the actual card image with Passbook like they have on the Starbucks app.

This doesn't actually add any functionality the app didn't already have. The Starbucks app already offered a way to scan a QR-like code on the phone to pay for your coffee and snacks - I've been using it.

I keep seeing Ticketmaster being touted as one of the apps that supports Passbook but I couldn't figure out for the life of me how to get my tickets into Passbook. Any ideas?

Yeah, if they don't update it to where you can scan your cards or even add a lot mor retailers/businesses I'm afraid it's going to be forgotten very quickly. Kind of like Ping

I noticed this right after it came out.

I didn't turn on the location feature, though. Something tells me that if my phone is checking if I'm at a Starbucks 24/7 it won't exactly extend battery life.

Besides, only takes 3 seconds to get to Passbook.

Here here! Location services murders battery life.

I can't even create a Starbucks account. I just keep getting errors when trying to make an account. Even tried doing forgot username and forgot password stuff and never getting the emails. Come on, Starbucks!!

Exactly. I just don't get whats so cool about having it in Passbook.

It's more convenient to swipe to open the card directly from the lock screen instead of unlocking then going to the Starbucks app then waiting for it to load. True, it saves mere seconds, but convenience is convenience all the same.

I use the Starbucks locator in the app quite a lot when travelling - I assume it is kept up-to-date.

Don't you still need the app to manage the card?

I have Walgreen's, Target, and Starbucks now in my passbook. Still haven't used any of them. I've made sure to keep location services for passbook off. What a waste of battery. I don't need it popping up when I'm in a Starbucks. It takes a swipe and 2 clicks to get there as it is.
