I guess this is a step in the journey. But I am missing something. I go into an app to load money using apple pay and then I have to use the app to pay at the store. Is it me or does this seem way harder than just paying with a credit card at the store? The whole point was to make it easier than a credit card not harder, right?

You don't need to open an app. Passbook automatically knows when I'm inside Starbucks… all I need to do is swipe through the lock screen prompt, Touch ID, and let the cashier scan the barcode.

Is this the same as any other "in-app purchase" or does it fall under the agreements of the "Apple Pay" mobile payment system? Is Apple getting a 30% cut of Starbucks Gift Cards sold through the app or is it just getting the fees agreed upon with the banks?

Crashes every time I try and reload. Closed the app. Restarted the phone, nothing works.

I haven't tried to reload any cash yet, but I did notice that my Starbucks card wasn't appearing in Passbook any longer. Make sure it's loaded, if not, try Pay > Manage > View in Passbook. Just and idea, hope it works.

Still no support for iPhone 6 or 6 Plus. Strange coming from Starbucks who is usually at the forefront of all things Apple.

Starbucks app is working fine on my 6 Plus. Graphics are clear and optimized. Reloaded my card using Apple pay a few hours ago with no issues.

I guess the benefit is that you just pay with what's already on your iTunes account. :/ It's kind of genius.

What do you have to do to get your gold card canceled? Piss in a milk frother?

That's like saying you prefer to have your nuts kicked instead of squeezed slowly.

I'm guessing he's like me. When the gold card program first came out to the masses, you just paid for it annually. Then they effectively changed it to a promotional punch card. Since then I haven't been a "gold level" customer.

When they get it set up so that I don't have to hold the cup manually and pour it in my mouth, then I'll be interested.

All that picking up the cup, pouring in my mouth, manually swallowing the coffee, a repeating over and over again until the cup is empty... It's so inconvenient. Even more inconvenient than pulling out a card and swiping it.

Then there's the security risk as my DNA and fingerprints are left on the cup. That has potentially catastrophic consequences. They could clone me, or connect me with something that happened a long time ago.

You know, Apple Pay isn't saving me much time or protecting my security at the coffee shop.

Waiting for the day when I just say what I want, and it appears in my belly. That's when the effort of swiping a card might become inconvenient.

No, not with Apple Pay in its current form. In fact it's a bit of a contradiction, since the merchant needs your identity to add purchases to your loyalty account, while Apple Pay is specifically designed not to disclose the customer's identity to the merchant on in-store purchases ...

Guess it needs someone to come up with a combined NFC/Barcode scanner that could register two transactions in one swipe. (I want 10% of the gross if anyone picks this up and runs with it! :) )

But the Starbucks app comes pretty close. You just pull up the barcode in Passbook and scan it to both pay and earn loyalty points. You just need to reload every once in a while, but thanks to Apple Pay it only takes a few seconds using the app now. For merchants where you regularly make small purchases this model works pretty well IMO.

Yep, I use it that way myself, although I top up with Starbucks Gift cards, my supermarket has a promotion that for every £10 you spend on gift cards (and that include iTunes cards, most other store cards) you get 1p per litre off petrol.

Ahh Apple Pay, I remember this fabled feature from when I bought my iPhone 6... So can I use it in the UK yet? Can I even get iTunes Radio yet? I can't help feeling I'm paying for features im not receiving...

Just updated the app on my iPhone 6 Plus, switched the default reload "card" to Apple Pay, and successfully added $15 to my account. Wow, so I don't have to remember my Starbucks password anymore! :D

It's a step in the right direction, but (like others) I'd really like to see Apple Pay incorporated further to where I don't have to keep money on my card - at purchase, I'd like to use Touch ID and have the app pass the payment through. But I would think there might be resistance from Starbucks, as well as other vendors, since then they wouldn't have a hefty pile of customers' cash sitting there and earning them some interest.

Reload won't work! I guess because I am on 8.3 beta 1 lol.

Reload not working here as well. Tried it again and it keeps crashing.

Not worth the hassle. Can reload with debt card on file quicker then using Apple Pay. Using Apple Pay to buy drinks gets you nothing in return. I'll keep using my gold card to get rewards.

Reloading your card with ApplePay does nothing to impact your rewards...

Unfortunately it seems to crash for me when I go to reload my card. Hopefully they can fix soon; I already removed my credit card.

How ironic... This is one of the primary features that was being bashed by Apple Pay fans who despised the idea of this feature being incorporated in the other competing payment method.

Guess it doesn't look like such a bad idea now. Unfortunately, it's only going to be made available on the other payment method that Apple fans bashed.

After this update my location services is on all the time. I had to go into Privacy settings and turn them off for the app.

Why does Starbucks need to track my location at all times? Not to mention waste my battery doing it?

I complained to their Twitter but I doubt anyone heard me. Grrr.

Interesting how Starbucks will bother with Apple Pay but not iPhone 6 native resolution. It's hideous right now...

Yup, and like many here, the app crashes everytime I try to reload using Apple Pay--and I'm not running a beta.

The app is definitely not optimized for 6/6 Plus. A good way to tell is by looking at the time at the top and how it magnifies when you open the app.

How do they keep updating for this long and still not support the new phone resolutions??

Just used it to reload. Nice that I can remove my other forms of payment for security. My starbucks account has been hacked before even with a strong lastpass generated password.

Imagine if your lastpass account got hacked! There's a ton of motivation for hacking lastpass/onepassword/icloud keychain accounts. Wonder if it's been done yet. Seems like an obvious thing to do, I mean, why hack 3 different websites, when you can hack a single service and gain access to all their passwords?
