the beta download just showed up in my manage games list. i am downloading it now. i did send a email an got a response back saying they are working on it.

i guess we don't need keys any more?

Ditto. Download in progress.

And my understanding is that you only need keys if you get in through Blizzcon, Gamestop, Amazon, etc. People who got invites through opt-in always got them this way.

I received an opt-in beta email a few days ago that told me to goto battle.net and get the game from there but the SC2 Beta wasn't there...it finally popped up for me last night as well! It really gets my MBP hot, the fans are spinning fast. All settings defaulted to low, resolution 1280x720. Plays absolutely smooth, I'm going to try to tweak it today, see if I can bump up at least a couple of the video settings to get some more visually appealing units/buildings, everythings pretty dull. I thought this machine would have been able to crank out this game at a bit higher of graphics.

see how the fans roll with lid close and playing on external monitor.
I've noticed varying Mac Mini/ MBP / Al_uMB users that have the 9400M only giving different performance reports and they very with the cpu ... I'm wondering those on the 2.26Ghz C2D cpu's in combo with 9400M are getting heat issues?

anyone having any problems with the game exiting after playing? my imac just gets stuck on the last screen and i cant seem to figure out how to exit the game without this happening....any help would be appreciated, thanks

This is a known bug, Mac and PC. One way to avoid this problem is to first log out of Battle.net, then exit the game.
I'm sure it'll be patched soon.

According to Blizzard's press release, the game is coming out on july 27th.

I've even put off purchasing a new MacBook Pro 'till the game comes out (I own a 2003 Powerbook G4, so the wait has been loooong). I'm definitely getting an i7 Macbook Pro (most assuredly the 17'', to really take advantage of the additional screen real estate). My only decision is to either: A) Get the computer as soon as the game comes out or B) to wait a few months for the back to school specials and possible minor updates later in the year. I think a little more patience on my part will be rewarded (I've waited seven years already :p), so I'm leaning more towards option B. Besides, my girlfriend has a 2009 Macbook Pro ( a 13'', sadly :( ), so I can wait for a few more months, as long as it's within 2010.

Are you guys leaning towards purchasing the regular edition ($59.99 on Amazon) or the special collector's edition ($99.99)? With 40 bucks you could buy another game. Still, the Starcraft franchise is one that's pretty close to my heart, so I'll most probably shell out the cash and get the cool collectibles (and boy are they cool).

You can always force quit it.

btw, is it just me or the mac version is terribly slow compared to Windows?
on the latest i7 mbp (hi-res) I am getting no more than 28 fps (sometimes it falls all the way down to 7) on rather high settings, while in Windows it is supposed to be running smoothly (>30 fps)

If the SC franchise is close to your heart, I don't think there is any other choice then getting CE edition. You won't be disappointed, its going to be worth of very cent spent, trust my words. ;)

This is true for me too.

In osx, with all settings maxed, spare portraits to 2d, I only get 10 fps on my i7 iMac.

In windows, with all settings maxed, spare portraits to 2d, I get 30 fps on my i7 iMac.

Tried the mac client today. Had already tested windows beta in bootcamp.

Used same settings, 1920x1200, medium settings (imac 24", 2.8Ghz Core2Duo, 4Gb RAM, 256Mb ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro) on both OS's.
In Vista bootcamp, the game ran so much smoother when compared to OS X.5.8. So much for Apple's drivers...

My horror story is this. . . I pre ordered this game, got the beta key, downloaded, etc. . . Only to discover my iMac video card is NOT SUPPORTED!!!

Anyone else have this issue? I have the late 2006 iMac with the NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT. I know this is an unsupported card, but it's frustrating that I pre ordered it not knowing this! I'm reading that people are having more success with Windows on a Mac. Should I try that? Has anyone had any success with this?

The easiest way to avoid this is to use Option-Q to quit instead of the menu.

You can either quit the game by force quit or by command+q in window mode. I hope it's fixed soon though. Sometimes I don't remember to quit that way and I have to do a hard reboot.

Hmm, you shouldn't have to do that. Even in full screen mode you should be able to Force Quit with Ctrl-Option-Esc.

Works for me anyway.

On the battle.net forums a lot of people have been having the hang-on-quit issue. Blizzard said they are aware of it and working on a fix.

The latest patch, which was just mad public, fixes the freeze on quit problem.
