@oripaamoni

could you give some preformace numbers ? :)
what system you got, what settings in sc2, what framerate ect
I have a 2010 i7 with the 1680x1050 display.
So until the mac beta came out i have playing it on my XP partition and in XP i was able to set the resolution to my native and set everything to ultra and never saw the frame rate dip bellow 35 fps. In OSX different story when i set the setting the same as windows its choppy as hell. i was able to get it smooth at my native rez if i turned the first setting down from ultra to high and the second from ultra to medium... kinda crappy hopefully its just code that will be optimized in the final release.

wow so the new high end MBP can play SC 2 with everything on ultra smoothly in Windows? that's beastly :)

SC2 runs perfectly on my 13", 2.4 GHz, 320m with medium settings (mac client). iStat Pro shows my CPU temp getting up to 80-84 deg C though...is this cause for concern?

Should i back down some of the settings to low-end? Would that help keep it cooler?

at least on my macbook pro, it seems like it wouldn't change the temps. Even playing SC1, my temps go up about that high. It appears that, if you play a game, the GPU ramps up to max no matter what settings you play on.

Yeah i just tried a game on low settings...same temps (around 84 C). Is this still safe? Im worried things are going to melt in there.

Its totally safe at that heat. The components are made for operating in high heat. The computer will shut itself down before it gets damaged if it gets very high, well over 100C

said many times, if you are a gamer, you need to bootcamp windows. Dont play games on os x, it's good for many things, just not games.

Well now that i have a new shiny mac i'm all worried about it. I never cared before on my PC, which is why I dont know much about this. But 100 C is the boiling point of water! I mean, its like there's a fire in there - how can it possibly be component-safe when its at 80-90 C??

I'm pretty confident about Starcraft 2 : I played today at Dawn of War 2 Chaos Rising on my Windows 7 bootcamp in high settings 4xAA 1440x900. It was better than in 1280x800 on my previous MBP with the 8600M GT.
Same for Dragon Age 2.

So I installed the Mac client last night and loaded up a quick bot match just to test performance. I'm running a 17" i5 - OCZ 120G SSD

Resolution: 1920 x 1200
Settings: It defaulted to medium for most everything and I left it as that way just to see how it would perform.

Match: FFA - 3 opponents

(Note: I've been playing the Beta on my Desktop PC at 1920 x 1200 / Max settings for comparison's sake.)

Initial Thoughts: The beta mac client ran well at the settings I had it graphically. It was a simple match but to give you some idea what I threw out on the field.
16 SCV's gathering resources
8+ hitting 2 Vespene gas sources
Basic base with 2 bunks, each with 4 Space Marines, 2 Missile towers, etc.

Army I sent out consisted of 15-25 Space Marines, 3 Reapers, (the big hulking infantry unit that debuffs), 3-4 siege tanks.

There is ONE nasty freeze bug that I had happen every so often during the match but I'm fairly certain its audio related. I'd click on the unit and the client would freeze for a few seconds, then the voice file would play for the unit. If some of you are used to seeing the typical audio issue in other games, this looked very similar. I'm assuming this is more client based rather than hardware based given its the first public release of the Mac beta client. But again, I only played one quick match to test it so take this all with a grain of salt.

If I get some time tonight, I'll throw up a few screens or a movie

What's considered "perfect" to you? Running it on the 9400M on the lowest resolution and everything on medium starts at 25 FPS and of course will drop late game (basically unplayable for me with it being choppy) Doing the same on the 9600M GT is an improvement but not much better so I'm very curious in the settings you deem as "perfect".

Has anyone got a key if they only signed up for the Mac beta? Doesnt seem like they have sent out a wave of keys for just Mac users.

I know a bunch of oyu are using your windows key to play the mac beta.

I think you are mostly right. However, the UB Warcraft III vastly outperforms the Windows version, because it's 64-bit.:apple:

Is there a way to display the frame rate in the Mac version? In boot camp I was using fraps but since the Mac client came out I got rid of my windows partition.

I'm running an 07 MBP 128mb 8600, and with all settings on Medium(default) I get around 30-40fps in bootcamp

my early 2008 2.4 ghz MBP with the 256mb 8600m runs SC2 pretty smoothly at 1440x900 on medium settings in Bootcamp. In OS X I have to lower the settings to minimal in order to avoid slowdowns.

Also, in XP, my laptop has actually shut itself off a couple of times. I think it was due to heat, but I'm not sure. Kinda scary...

Why would you buy it when you can preorder ONLINE for FREE?

Because the FREE key with pre-order doesn't apply to all regions. In fact, it may be US only from two providers (that I'm aware of).

That said, I did pre-order from Amazon and have been playing the Beta for a few days now.

just buy the beta on ebay:

search: starcraft 2 beta key

I thought the beta keys can only be emailed from randomly on Battle.net users? I look at ebay no Starcraft 2 Beta key available at search.

So the difference between the Beta and the official one is the access in regions? How about the maps, are there limitations?
