Apologies about all of the Starfield whining. After getting sucked into Cyberpunk completely and finishing it starry eyed, I've come back to Starfield and the quests are so pedestrian, if that's the proper term or overly simplistic. 🤔 The degree of sophistication in CP2077 is impressive in comparison.

The Ryujin Industries Corporate spy and saboteur quest chain is getting old. I'm not enjoying them, plus these days in real life, I'm down on big Corporations and their "corporate" ways, hell if I'm going to do their dirty bidding in this game.

I'm asked to get a security key card from the Head of Security at Hopetown. I can use my fantastic persuasion abilities to just waltz in as an unknown stranger in a nice business suit and convince the HoS that I need her security key really bad, and to please give it to me. She doesn't ask me why, and finally says "ok, but bring it back fast". I leave planet with it and turn it in at Ryujin HQ. 🙄

Then they want me to break up two competitors' pending deal to merge using my persuade abilities, basically, overly simplistic. "Hey they're bad, don't do it." "Duh, ok" and you also swap out a presentation to cause chaos at the meeting which you thankfully don't attend.

Finally, they want me to sabotage a competitors computer to mess up the works. Andreja, my companion does not seem to be bothered by these hijinks, which is better than Sara's do-gooder harping, but I've had enough. I'm pining for a way to double cross Ryujin, but don't really see it.

I've done the Akila City Freestar Deputy Quests, the Crimson Fleet quests, the Mantis quests, the UC terramorph quests. I think I'm just going to return to the Lodge, hook up with Sam Coe, finish up the main quest and probably say adios to Starfield. Not doing the DLC either.

Relic hunting...
I'm on Bessel lll-B looking for a temple, one of the many relics I've collected. We (Me and Sam Coe, first time for Sam) find it, well really I find it, we go inside, I do the "routine" to collect the relic, which is kind of a mind blowing spectacle in the temples, every time you do it, although admittedly it becomes repetitive over time, the same deal every time.

We come outside I talk to Sam, and instead of expressing any kind of amazement regarding this specticle, he has no comments regarding what we just saw. Ok, maybe he did not see what I saw, but still, he watched what I did. How can you see something like this, large spinning rings and have no comments about it? I'm not allowed to ask him what he thinks, and he just wants to know if I want to trade stuff with him or ask him personal questions. This is poor writing, even lame. 🙄

Main Quest: High Price to Pay...Dissapointed!

I’m trying to finish up Starfield. Some of the quests are amateurish and simplistic. Persuading people is a joke. There’s a part of the main quest where The Lodge, HQ of Constellation will be attacked and The Eye, a space station has gone dark with several of your friends on it. You have to a make a decision about where you want to go and depending on the choice, one or many companions, comrades die. This is supposed to be edgy I guess.
What irritates me is when I went to The Eye, everyone was supposed to be grievously injured, the space station guy, Vlad, mentions "Andreja… so much blood". Well, she’s my wife so I’m going to save her. What is irritating is that this is completely sanitized violence, no wounds, no blood, they are sitting or laying down “ greviously injured” and when you touch them, I guess applying magic “first aid” they pop up good as new, as if nothing has happened. There isn't even much if any of a discussion about events.

If you choose to defend The Lodge, if I read it right, all those in The Eye perish! I choose not to defend The Lodge, and when I get back, Sarah is dead… 😔 The Starborn Hunter is still there so I got to fight him in The Well (low rent district) of Jameson home planet. The Starborn which I've run into relic temples, have surprisingly powerful shields. I use my most powerful weapon on them and it's not that short of a fight.

Entangled: One of the more interesting quests, yet I have some problems with it, because it drags out a bit and a philosophical question about _______ that I'm not going to say it because it's a spoiler.

The main quest is about the multi-verse. I thought this was very interesting, but I don’t like how it was executed because changing realities is too big a choice with too many variables, but the game. simplfies it into the change just being at this facility, where in actuality imo, it should be a change across the entire reality. Like Sara, in my game she was killed in the quest High Price to Pay where you decide to defend the Lodge or defend your friends at The Eye space station. She is killed if you go to The Eye to help your friends there. Apparently regardless of your choice here, it makes no difference to the rest of the galaxy, including her remaining dead.

And what about you, is there another you floating around if you make a particular choice? My thinking is, which is your normal reality? Is it the one where you get the distress message while in orbit around the planet? Or is it the one where you first land on the planet and the facility is normal versus being a ruin? But this is also a planet with a relic on it which is supposedly what is causing different localized realities to blink in and out.

Choosing another reality to exist in, holy crap... Yet being the chicken that I am, I looked it up and apparently your choice, somehow only effects this facility, but think about that, if this facility is different, think about how the difference could easily bleed out across the Galaxy... so I'm calling it over simplified, unless something like this, when talking about the multi-verse is described as a possibility. 🤔

Starfield complete, review, spoilers
Completed the main Constellation quest last night, the game is officially complete I think, kind of an let down, although you can keep going, repeating content in a new:
Parallel Universe.
.

Article: What Happens After You Become Starborn:
In a nutshell: The game is hugely ambitious while being very shallow.
Uncovered spoilers from here on out.
  • Grand Idea but what’s the point? Ok so there is a multiverse, thousands of parralel realities, you are finding ancient relics which pave the way to Unity, Grand Central Station for these realities, a doorway to each of them I think, but I did not see any doors. So there could be thousands of you and everyone, but things might be slightly different in each one. There’s evidence a person can be alive in one reality, but dead in another. I don’t really see the benefit of traveling to another reality. And if you think about it, if parallel universes can exist, but can unfold differently, unless they were created yesterday, you would expect some very big compounding differences between them, but maybe that's a bit too nit picky for talking about a game. ;)
  • Repetitive collecting relics- the first time you pick up a relic you may be awed, what a light show and music! It’s the same for the next 20 relics located in temples, spinning rings, small globes you fly around to fly though, can’t tell if they're being gathered, but the music pitches upward until the large rings align, you fly into the center and receive a series of powers, each ring or relic gives one. Why hand out powers?
  • What’s the big picture here? Eventually you go to the last temple, The Sunken Temple and fight a bunch of Starborn (people who have traveled from one reality to yours to also seek relics, and don’t want you to have the final relic… why? Here’s my issue, I’m not really sure what Starborn status gives you. Immortality? Not sure. If you’ve collected enough relics to travel to Unity, why do you need more relics? To travel to more realities, to gain more powers? Or just to see new realities for the fun of it? I don’t see the point or the purpose. What’s the end game? It really can’t just be spending the rest of your life hunting relics and jumping to new realities, rinse, wash, repeat? 🤔
In Unity:
  • You’ll meet an alternate you, who will give you a rundown of your accomplishments, including the positive effects you’ve had on reality for humanity or was that for all sentient beings? If you have a significant other, I had Andreja, you’ll be told that she will eventually choose to be “reborn”. I’d definitely want to see her again, but I don’t think thats an option in this game, to see the Andreja you already know, without reverting to an earlier save.
  • You’ll have the choice of entering Unity to be teleported to a new reality, by yourself, no friends get to come along, in essence a new playthough, retaining your current level and skills, but losing all your stuff, and you’ll get a new and spiffy, but cold like concrete, new ship. All I can remember is with my custom built ship, which I love, is that I kicked the **** out of a series of Starborn ships during this playthough.
  • What about the me that’s hanging out in the new reality or am I dead there? Is the alt-me working in a mine like I was, or already hanging out at Constellation? Unknown, I get back to the Lodge and don’r see me, and Sarah is there alive and does not know me. (Based on a choice I made, she died in my last play through). And she takes it overly comely when I tell her I’m Starborn and know all about relics, you know the huge mystery they are working on, but there is just no real excitement about my revelation. Maybe because it equates to being a rat on a treadmill?
More about Unity
  • So only one person in each reality get’s to travel to Unity? How can my companion girlfriend choose to be “reborn” if I grabbed all the relics? OR... are there enough relics in a reality that several people from that reality can go to Unity, becoming Starborn?
  • If you back away and not opt to go though, all of your companions will not be thrilled, not mad, but disappointed to different degrees, even my girl friend tells me I should have gone…😕
  • Do you really feel like repeating all your quests? Here’s your chance, but why would you? What might have been cool if they have made a really new universe with significant differences, but my impression, and nothing I’ve seen so far is substantially different, but caveat, I’ve only been to the Lodge in New Atlantis, Jameson, Alpha Centauri.
Overall
  • Good ship building overall, but it can be frustrating, not being able to design and save a ship in progress. Unable to control how side by side habitat modules connect, ie where doors are placed. Good enough space battles with keyboard and mouse. Spend a lot of time in the UC Simulator to ‘up’ your piloting skills without jeopardy.
  • Dialog and dialog interactions are mostly aweful. You’ll see some visually impressive sights, and when you turn to your companion to say “Holy ****!” And talk about it. But the default dialog options pop up “Want to trade, or ask me the same 3 personal questions I’ve already answered?” Now sometimes they will actually comment on an event, but not usually in a timely manner. And as stated before, they want to talk to you about personal stuff in the middle of a fight.
  • The Companion quests were uninspired, 2 practically the same, two companions who both regret abandoning people in their crew, and Barrett, whose gay boyfriend died, but he wants to clear the boyfriend’s name from some incident, 20 years ago.
  • Out of the loop companions- who apparently don’t realize your working undercover consorting with criminals while operating undercover.
  • Quest chains, interactions, and conclusions of quest chains continuously feel short changed. I killed a high ranking official when he was caught in illegal activities, pulled a gun on me, and I just walked out of there, not a single question was asked about the incident. Yeah working as a Freestar Ranger, I killed him don’t you want to know why??🤔

Brought over from the movie thread:
I think that this video describes your feelings. It’s a long one but definitely worth a watch.

I admit I didn’t watch the whole one hour and 20 minute video but I did catch part of the Starfield description and it really looks dismal from a story and this guy‘s perspective. The games does have some value, at first it was “wow!” but for me it turned into a disappointment. Of possible interest I don’t know how I missed it, but I never got to meet my parents while playing Starfield. 😳

Starfield continues to bleed players, putting fallout 4 side by side, and FO4 a 10 year old game is showing significantly larger numbers.

This video shows that some major updates may indeed be coming, if/when it arrives on the playstation and/or switch2

Rumors seem to point that no DLC update for 2025, specifically due to the fact that sales were so poor. Todd Howard mentioned that starfield is set up to get annual DLCs but recent rumors are such that this next DLC is going to be the last and it will be released to coincide with the Play station release.
