UPDATE: Couldn't get past the gold in it, went boring and silver. I'm at peace with my decision At least it'll go well with my Studio Display and Magic Keyboard. :)

I've played with the new 15 inch Airs 3-4 times this week, and I just cannot make up my mind about the colors.

Originally I wanted the Midnight since its initial release. However, I've been reading and seeing all the videos about the fingerprints. I told myself "Nah, it's probably because they have greasy fingers or touch it too much. Now that I've seen it in person, I totally get it! It's shocking how it can go from looking like a gorgeous dark, sexy mysterious machine to hideous within 10 seconds of touching it. It looks like a totally different computer once you've put your hands over it. And I find silver to be too 'cold' for me. I haven't been able to find a 15-inch space grey, but I could imagine it being similar to my space grey MBP from 2018. I told myself "not space grey this time, it's getting too boring. I want something new. But at the same time, space grey is safe for a reason. It's definitely the one that's most complimentary with ALL wallpapers. And this is where Starlight comes in. When I saw it in person, I tought it looked absolutely gorgeous in clamshell mode!! But when I opened it, I felt uncertain, because it has a warm tone. I thought "the standard wallpaper looks bad with this starlight, lemme find something better. So I tried setting a bunch of others, and none of them really felt complimentary. Only some of them that had a warm tone. Also, I can't get a real sense of the color in the stores, where there's artificial lightning.

I'd love to hear from people, who purchased this Starlight color. Are you till happy with it? Can you relate to my opinion about not all wallpapers looks good with this color? Did you actually regret it and returned/purchased another color?

I bought the Starlight 13" M2 MacBook Air at launch while all "reviewers" and MacRumors were gloating about the midnight blue version.

And I still stand by decision back then, Starlight is the best new colour of the MacBook Air. Still 0% scratches and no finger prints.

Do you struggle finding a complimentary desktop wallpaper that doesn't class with the Starlight? I think a lot of about the software looking good together with the color of the hardware..

Looks fine to me. But I could be less picky than you are, so better check it out in the Apple Store using various desktop wallpapers.

Very happy with my starlight M2 Air. I originally ordered a silver M2 Air (as well as one for my wife) but mine was dead on arrival, so I was able to switch for a starlight one. The colour is really subtle, I only really see the gold of it under very warm lighting.

Agree. The difference is so small i wonder why apple even bothers to sell the different shades.

I went with the silver.

I have had a space grey Air for two years, and it now feels boring.

I liked the midnight at first, but as you can see at the Apple store, the finish is so weak that the paint is easily peeling off, especially on the USB ports and the MagSafe, which I hated.

I really loved the startlight when it was closed, but I didn't like it when it was opened because it is a bit too yellowish for my taste.

I was certain that I wanted Starlight, it looks great in the online pictures & videos. I spent a lot of time in the Apple Store & a department store which sells Apple gear (John Lewis UK) looking at the Starlight colour in different lights. Many hours later I came to the conclusion that it looks great on the table but I found the colour distracting when I was using it. Previously I had a Space Grey m1 air and found it a bit depressing, the midnight isn’t any better - it looks like a windows machine. Ultimately I purchased silver from John Lewis the same day and I have never regretted it, I haven’t moved from the green/teal Air wallpaper.

As to wall paper, roll your own!

Find a good photo or photos to be your desktop. You can have them be randomly displayed at time intervals you set. There are many options, including when waking up or 15 minutes, 30, etc.

I use a bunch of NASA Photos of the Day and am greeted daily or hourly (depending upon which setting I've last picked) with a new backdrop. Most often, the images are set against the rich dark black of space which, I would imagine, would go well then the Starlight color!

You can choose any folder to use for the photos, so you can put a bunch of photos of family, pets, or favorite parks or nature scenes.

I have a Midnight MBA 13". I also hate fingerprints. It's real easy to clean though, and as long as you give it a quick little wipe here and there, I don't find it to be an issue. Normally it'd be something I kinda obsess over, too. (The display models in the Apple Store are definitely not representative of actual use.)

EDIT: Having said that, Starlight is really great and easily my second choice.

I've got the 15'' Air in starlight. Love it. My dad has a 2019 MBA in gold and I vastly prefer the Starlight's more understated tone compared to that computer. It's a great looking computer.

Right? It's such a nice good-looking color, but I couldn't fully immerse myself into the screen, cause of that yellow tint of the color. If the Air had the all black framed keyboard like the Pros, I would go with silver, too. I don't like silver with the "naked" keys on the air, it brings me back to the old MacBooks from 2013. Not in a good way. All I see is that empty spacing around the left and right arrow keys. On Space Grey it's not so obvious. But I agree, that Space Grey can look depressing, but at the same time I feel like I can better focus and get lost into the screen itself

At first, I thought it was too light, but not anymore. It's a great color! I've had the 2006 black MacBook, 2009 Silver MacBook Pro, and two space gray MacBook Pros after that. it's nice to get away from the darker colors.

I do not regret my Starlight 15" Air purchase one bit. I normally shy away from champagne/gold colors as I'm typically not a fan but the second I opened the box I knew this was the perfect color for me. Much nicer looking than boring Space Gray/Silver but doesn't show fingerprints or scratches like Midnight. I actually wanted to get the Midnight model but my boss has a 13" model and it looked so dirty after using it for a few minutes I knew I couldn't deal with that long term.

How fast is your 15" Air?

I have the base 8GB/256SSD model and it's incredibly quick for what I use it for. I wouldn't edit multiple clips of 4k at 60fps but for internet browsing, YouTube, TV apps, photo editing, listening to music and other productvity items it's perfect.
Thanks for replying!
I thought the m2 chip was incredibly powerful and it could handle 4k 60 like butter...,like iJustine's video where she edits 4k 60 and its buttery smooth...but i guess its the ram, since she had higher than 16gb d you have 8gb.

I have both Starlight and Midnight. Starlight is a little too conservative for me and I wish it was more gold cause day to day use it looks like silver. The Midnight is more bold but obviously fingerprints that come with it makes the whole thing just greasy looking when you factor in the keyboard shine.

Personally when the current gen MBA rumors were floating around I was hoping for a white keyboard and maybe even white bezel similar to the iMac.

I've never tried but just knowing how the SSD is slower compared to the higher end models and 8GB is the bare minimum long term I wouldn't want to edit that kind of video on this machine routinely. I would want 16GB/512SSD minimum for that kind of long term use and at that price you should just buy a 14" MacBook Pro. Best Buy has them on sale for $1799 frequently and to be honest if I had known they were running that deal a week after it was too late to return the 15" Air I have I would have snagged one up.

That isn't a knock against the 15" MacBook Air... its the perfect Apple MacBook for me. However when you start adding options it doesn't make sense to not get the 14" Pro as it just a much better computer all the way around.

Why do yall like the Air so much? Just get a Pro...fans, better performance, better speakers, only reason to get the Air iis for the 15 inch size, is that why? Reallya?
