Then i decided that no matter what its not right by any means to sell a product that has a known defect and take that long to repair it.
Microsoft didn't sell the console with the intent or mindset that "oh well, fk it, we put a shoddy heatsink on the system, it'll overheat but it'll be after the warranty expires so who cares it's not our problem". This wasn't malicious intent like you make it sound to be. They designed a cooling system that they believed to be sufficient, but in the end it wasn't in some cases.*
*Some cases because there are plenty of people with launch consoles who have had 0 failures. MRU has two, several friends of mine have launch systems and no problems either.
And i'm glad the car analogy has come up, while i dont expect to get a new car if my car breaks down at 49,000 miles, i do expect them to repair it or replace it once they are aware of a defect.
What you just said is not what you just did.
You didn't even give them a chance.
You heard "8 weeks" so you called and vented to the BBB.
For all you know, it may have only taken 2 weeks and you could've gotten it back sooner. Do you honestly think it really would've taken 2 months? That's probably the standard issue answer they give everyone so if it takes
longer than
a few weeks, people don't call and complain.
The problem here is you didn't even give them a chance; you just complained.
And believe it or not, repaired 360s have a better heatsink/heat pipe system on them then factory new systems. I don't expect any change in this regard until the Falcon (65nm) systems come out in a few months.
I mean really i bought a new car a little over a year ago and it only has 22,000 miles and if it broke down because of a known defect wouldn't you be a little irritated?
"Irritated" is one thing; having out of pocket expenses is another. Your out of pocket expense for your irritation would be $0 dollars.
Here's some history for you.
My first Ps2 (bought 6 months after launch) stopped reading all discs (dvd and regular blue-bottom format) after owning it 9 months. Sony's warranty is 90 days. I called and was told I'd have to pay $150 to have it fixed. It wasn't until I complained about reading [on the internet] that "the laser lens was a piece of crap and would go out of alignment" that I was given an apology, a "don't believe what you read on the internet" speech read off a card, and a "we'll repair it free of charge since you're a VALUED CUSTOMER" load of crap. I was satisfied to get it repaired for free, but if I hadn't complained, that would've been a $150 charge on a 90-day warrantied item.
That being said - the 360 having a 3 year RoD warranty is a blessing in disguise. I guess I'm a "glass half full" guy and you're a "glass half empty" guy. You'd say 'yeah it's under warranty but it shouldn't fail regardless', [given my Sony experience] I'd say 'it sucks it failed but it's under warranty so I pay $0'.
I would hate to be on your side in a fight, you would probably lay down and take the beating rather then stand up and say do something...
Given by how I've replied to everything you've said, do you really think I'd lay down in a fight man? Just call me Captain America because I fight against injustice...I don't lay down about anything. Keep an eye on my posts here; I'll rip on any company irregardless of how many products I own of theirs, how many I have owned, or how many I will own. Lunacy is lunacy; I have no brand name favortism.
