Yrah tried that, it is no help :( it is just stuck on apple logo and spibning cicrle for ages :/ i can't find my discs to do a permissions repair either :( not that it matters as i cnt eject a disc that is already in :(

You really need the disks to get it work. See this guide to eject the CD in SuperDrive.

10.6.3 issues

It sounds like there are different variations of 10.6.3 update issues. I was running 10.6.2 and updated via Software Update. Granted, there were other updates included, but I did get the update error and was not able to boot since the update. I tried all options I could think of (including PRAM zap, safe mode (via Shift), verbose (command-v), single user (command-s), booting from the SL DVD and repairing permissions and disk via disk utility - no issues found). I even booted from the snow leopard DVD and reinstalled 10.6 (over the existing installation - not clean install). None worked. I still was not able to pass the apple logo.

Unfortunately my last back-up was 2 weeks old. So, I ended up booting in firewire target disk mode and backing up all my drive into an external drive from an old powerbook. I did a clean install (yes, erased the partition) and migrated my backup. Then did the 10.6.3 combo update (downloaded from apple.com - not software update) and did the full software update. Now it works fine. No issues found so far.

This is the first time I had issues with software update. I think with 10.6.3 Apple cut some corners on testing certain configurations. Next time, I'll make sure to do a full backup just before the update.

I ended up not losing anything (except several hours of troubleshooting and restore) - but it was very annoying.

Can't boot Black Macbook after installing 10.6.3 update

I have two (Black) Macbooks and updated one to 10.6.3. The system no longer booted - just hung with the Apple logo and spinning ball. I was able to restore from a backup and try again. The same thing happened again. (Thank goodness for backups!)

There is definitely a problem with this update. DO NOT INSTALL it if you own an older Macbook! This is a first for me. I've been using Mac's since the original Mac and never had a problem like this one. My son has a new Macbook and the upgrade went fine.

Thank you for this forum! I thought I was losing my mind until I discovered others were having the same problem.

I ended up having to reformat and clean install. Wasted 2 nights of my life. Not happy about this! I thought apple was more reliable than this..

Take out the HD and get a 3.5" SATA to 2.5" SATA (or hard drive dock with SATA 2.5" to USB) and download HFSExplorer for your PC and try to save the data

Do NOT do this upgrade.

My Macbook WILL NOT BOOT anymore. It just flashes a blue screen, and then the default wallpaper.

I did nothing wrong. I simply did the upgrade and it's completely ****ED.

Nothing was plugged in, nothing fancy.

This is complete ********.

the number of complaints we're seeing about 10.6.3 is startling, right down from extreme sluggishness and poor wifi reception up to not even starting again

wth is apple doing? too much focus on iphone os i guess
