Steam dark mode

I know nothing about Steam.

But I play sometimes on my MacBook Air 15" M4 (Prob Rob a fantastic game and Zombotron; Captain Bumper not so good).

The following game is not available on the App Store: Minishoot' Adventures

I installed Steam today. What the heck is that horrible dark mode from hell.

Does it mean if I buy a game through Steam, I have to play it on the (eye straining dark mode) Steam platform?

Steam is just a front end app. Once you start playing a game on Steam, the game looks no different than running it as an executable.

I’ve been looking at dark mode on Steam for 20 years, without question, is there a light mode? What hardware are you using to look at the Steam interface?

A MacBook Air 15" M4 processor (bought in Nov 2025) macOS 26.4.

I just hate dark mode. It is such a strain on the eyes (I have tons of colleagues at work who revel in the dark mode). Dark mode is probably a health and safety issue.

Anyway, if Steam is just a storefront maybe it is okay (games can be played in native mode).

I am not really a computer gamer. I played Bud Redhead The Time Chase 20 years ago. It stopped working on OSX. My all-time favourite game.

I didn't play for many years.

I cannot play Super Tux (too difficult).

But last November I found Prop Rob on the App Store (German developer) which comes close to Bud Redhead. I cannot do a 5 stars review not matter what I do and how often it doesn't get published on the App Store.

After that I played Zombotron (it is free because he is Russian, payment embargo, but I will make a donation to him somehow) and Captain Bumper (too expensive £10 on the App Store for what you get).

But now I want to try Minishoot' Adventures which may be a replacement for Zombotron (I am really waiting for more chapters).
