I reserved a Steam Deck... I won't be able to order one until sometime around/after Q2 2022. Yikes. :(

Speaking of MS and Sony consoles. I like the trend with Xbox Series X having a web browser. Hopefully one day Microsoft will unlock it and allow it be used as a PC which it's basically is and what the Steam Deck will be on day one.

Xbox 360 had a web browser. Heck, I had a web browser on my Nintendo DS.

Those are gimped whereas the latest Edge browser on Xbox Series X/S is very close to a full desktop browser.
I don’t think they are quite there with hardware costs to be subsidizing what is considered “beefy” hardware in the Series X for that (unless they link it to requiring Microsoft 365 subscription on top of GamePass:U subscription).

So, apparently the Xbox Series S/X have a $19 developer mode that allows for more freedom and versatility like emulation in addition to game streaming with Edge browser. Tempted since the S is in stock at my local Best Buy.

Im really interested in this. Idk why but handheld gaming has always had my interest over everything else. Maybe its just growing up with a Gameboy color and walking around the neighborhood playing Pokémon yellow all day. But i really want this to succeed, or game streaming to get better on iOS, or maybe they go hand in hand....ha

My opinion is because handheld gaming is more convenient, quicker to launch and feels more personal on the go.

In regards to cloud gaming/streaming subscription - that can jump off a cliff and I hope Steam Deck/Handheld PC gaming takes off that no one will even need to consider games as a service.

Games as goods >>>> Games as a service
Keep playing, not keep paying.

On a related note, I tried installing Linux on my Razer Blade (specifically pop_os) and tried to run some of my games on using steam/proton and the results were disappointing. Why I bring it up here, is that with the steam deck being linux based and games will be played through the proton/wine layer I'm a bit nervous about how well it will perform.
